Hi Jeff,

I may be of some help to you. My 5th great-grandfather was Richard Ellerton, born c1790 in Albemarle Co., VA. His parents were John Ellerton and Ann Moran.

The will of John Moran of Albemarle Co., VA., written 23 Sept., 1776, and proven in court Nov. 1776, names his wife as Sarah, and children as: William, Nicholas, Elijah, Ann Elinton (Ellerton), Sarah (Coffey), and Joshua.
His son William was appointed as Executor at the death of his wife Sarah. (son Joshua was still a minor when John died).
Witness' were: William Sowell, Jacob Fraust, & Joseph Tombs (Toms).

Since your Robert was born c1809, his father as William Moran could be this son (or possibly grandson) of John Moran's named in his will. If this is so, then your William was a brother to my ancestor, his sister, "Ann", or possibly her uncle.

The names of John Moran, George W. N. Bonaarte Moran, John C. Calhoun Moran, Samuel F. Moran, and William Moran, and Susan Moran are found in records in Albemarle Co. VA., in connection with my Ellerton, Graves, and Toms families.
Also, John Moran owned land adjacent to my 6th g.grandfather, "John Ellerton".

Would love to hear from you.
