Cath, I certainly could be wrong, but I think the Anne Moore who married John Foster in Elizabeth City County, Virginia, ca. 1667 is generally thought to be the Anne Moore, b. ca. 1650, who was a daughter of Capt. Augustine Moore of Elizabeth City County. It doesn't seem possible that Mary More, born ca. 1560, could have had a daughter who was just getting married in 1667, over a hundred years later.

There is a family legend, which I believe originated with the Spottswood family of Virginia, that Augustine Moore was a descendant of Sir Thomas More through Augustine's father, the emigrant John Moore, who came to Virginia in 1620 on the "Bona Nova." This John Moore, who gave his age as 36 in 1620, is approximately the correct age to be a son of Mary More and her husband Edward Moore, "of Bampton, Oxfordshire," according to Burke's "History of the Commoners of Great Britain and Ireland." Burke's traces the lineage of all the male descendants of Sir Thomas More from his only son, John More, who married Anne Cresacre, but unfortunately does not say anything about the daughters of the family except who they married.

I am a descendant of Augustine Moore and would love to establish that Sir Thomas More was his ancestor, but aside from family legend and a bit of circumstantial evidence provided by family names (John and Anne Cresacre More had a son named Augustine, who died unmarried), I have not been able to find any evidence of a link despite many years of searching. I do not believe there is any documentary evidence linking the More/Moore family of Virginia to Sir Thomas More.
