I am researching the "Williams" line. I am looking for information on Clark or James Clark Williams, born abt 1874 in Alabama. I think his mothers name was the ever popular "Mary". Clark died in Ohio leaving an illegitimate son, James Cloyd Taylor, DOB September 1895, to Winnie Taylor of St. Clairsville, Ohio. Clark died in 1907 in Belmont Co., Ohio. I can't find his parents or if he had a wife and other children. I also don't know any of his ancestors. Any help will be very appreciated. GThanks in advance.

No. I hadn't been to IA since I was 9. And then last year. Elizabeth and Joe Brown were married about 1874. They had five children that we know of. I decend from their son William. His son Jasper Wesley was my grandpa. Elizabeth Moorehead is my ggreatgrandma. I think that makes you and I on the same generational level?

LeeAnna

(My grandfather looked very indian, but I think he got that from his mother's side.)

The Moorehead line was the first that I started looking up seriously. The way the story goes as I have interpreted it is this. Sarah McMichael, b. in poss PA abt 1800, married Possibly James Moorehead. Her mother shows on the 1856 census in Trenton, IA. Her name was Mary McMichael or McMikel. The census says they were born in OH, but I think it was really PA. Anyways, we all know the story based on the biographical. The boys leave OH, end up in IA (where most of my family still lives)and after Joseph sets up a home, he goes back for his mother and his bride, Mariah Kelley, as well as his sisters. Basically, the womenfolk. My last name is Brown. I am a decendant from their daughter Elizabeth and Joe Brown. I don't know if you have ever seen a Moorehead before, but I have not. They are all mostly buried in Greenmound cem. in Trenton. I visted Joseph and Mariah et.al. last summer. The thing about Loretta and Sam Umbanhower is sad. She marries this guy 2 of jan 1880 at her fathers house. They lived next door for awhile. Then he moves the family to muscatine. Apparently, she is an invalid at this point, but how, I do not know. One day, according to the obit., Sam commits suicide in the front yard of his home bu shooting himself in the chest with a shotgun. But, Sam had a twin brother who had committed suicide early in life. Loretta's son John William later commits suicide in the kitchen of his home while his wife was at the market. Later Loretta dies of the flu or "Grippe". Even that was tragic as she apparently died a few hours after her brother Warren, but because she was so ill, they didn't tell her.

Yes. I believe Wesley (my father's middle name)and William Married sisters? Mary and Phairbey. Their sister Loretta's story was sad. How she ended up. You know that story about her husband? If not, let me know and I will tell you. I don't know where you are in you findings, but I cannot go any further back then Joseph's mother was named Sarah (McMichael?) b. abt. 1800, and that her mother was named Mary. Sarah marries unk. Moorehead and that is where I begin. I went back to Iowa last summer (my family all lives there still) and visited the graves and the town.
I know that the brothers all located there or therebouts around 1850ish from OH. My ancestor, Joseph, goes back to OH shortly thereafter, marries Mariah Kelley and brings her and his mother and sisters back to his new home in IA.
LeeAnna

I am so happy that I stumbled upon the messages about W. G. Morehead. I have been searching for my husband's Great Grandmother, whom I believe was Mr. Morehead's second wife. From my research, I believe her given name was Mattie and her maiden name was Ragus. She married a man by the name of Charlie Williams who was lynched in E. Carroll Parish, LA around 1894. I feel pretty confident that we are talking about the same Mr. Morehead, but the name "Nanny" for his second wife has made me doubt, although I knew she had two boys Charley and Frank or John Frank. I was not aware of the little girl, Katie.
If anyone can help me determine anything else about Mattie Ragus-Williams-Morehead, I would appreciate the help so very much.

When you are able to send more information regarding W. G. Morehead, Nannie Morehead, or Charlie Williams, I will be so grateful. Since my husband remembers very little of his Granfather John Frank Williams' history, I had to start from scratch, not even knowing his mother or father's name when I began this journey.

Please let me know what record shows W. G. Morehead married to Nancy or Nanny. I have not been able to find the source. Census of 1900 in Ashley County, Arkansas shows him married to Mattie Morehead and a mother-in-law by the name of Virginia Ragus living with them and their children. I thought I had things figured out but I am doubting. Thanks for any source data information.
