Yes, I keep looking at the two pictures and the eyes do have a similarity. But then again it could be an entirely different person. Thanks for posting that picture, my dad really loved seeing a picture of his grandfather as a child. We don't have very many old pictures like that. I am thinking a trip into Seneca Falls to the historical society my be a good idea. I was talking with my father and he remembered as a child going with his mom and dad to Gravel Rd. to visit a relative named Ruth and a man whom he thought was named Charles. This would have been in the 1950's. I have come across a couple different Ruths in the morehouse line, so I am not sure which line the Ruth he remembers would have stemmed from, and he really doesnt remember much more than what he told me, he said they went alot when he was really little but when he got older not very often.
Anyways thanks for your input!!

Re: Harriet (Van Cleef) Morehouse

It may be Harriet but.....

Hang on!

Now, I don't know where this photo came from, when it was taken, or who attributed it to Harriet Morehouse. It does look familiar - like I saw it a long time ago... perhaps Seneca Falls Historic Soceity or perhaps Betty Morehouse Zeth (son George Zeth and email sent under separate cover) may be of more help. Betty and George are our branch's historian and have all the albums.

But this is what I know. Harriet (Van Cleef) Morehouse 1817-1894 was the wife of Alanson Morehouse who was deacon of the Baptist Church on Black Brook Road near Seneca Falls. Both are barried at Fox Cemetary on Black Brook Road. Harriet would be the mother of Charles A. Morehouse our common ancestor.

If the time frame of 1865 is accruate for your photo, Harriet would have been 48 when the photo was taken and if this woman is 48 then she is very well preserved. To me, the woman in the photo looks to me to be no more than 30.

In the attached photo of our family taken about 1908, the elderly woman second from the left is Alice M. Ide our g g grandmother. Two seats over is Charles A. Morehouse our g g grandfather. Between them is your Harrison. Now, if our time frame is right Alice would have been 53 when this photo was taken. Compare the women in both photos one is about 48 one 53..boy five years took a tole on women.

Now, notice the eyes in both photos, I think they are both the same woman but that throws a wrench in the timing of yours. I think the woman in the photo is Alice M. Ide wife of Charles A. Morehouse who was born in 1855, so 1865 would be too young. But by say 1875 she would be 20 and the styles would fit.

Others in the photo are: Top row - L to R as you face the photo... George (our line), Mable, Fred, Pearl, Lena. Front row LTR: Milton, Alice, Harrison (your line), Charles, Etta.

Notice how the eyes in both photos look very similar though about 30-35 years apart... also the ages seem to fit better.

Hi Jennifer,

My name is Tammy Morehouse and my great great grandfather was also Charles A. Morehouse, his son Harrison is father to my grand father Paul L. Morehouse.
I have a picture that based on the stamps on the back date it to I am thinking 1865ish that is labeled Harriet Morehouse and the stamp on the back is from a photographer in Watkins, NY which is now Watkins Glen. Anyhow I was wondering if you had ever seen it and could verify that it is Harriet (Van Cleef) Morehouse that appears to be in both of our lines. I will try to post the image here......

[IMG]http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j124/tammymor/HarrietMoreh...]

http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j124/tammymor/?action=view...

Sincerely,
Tammy Morehouse

Dear Judy Bishop,
How wonderful to hear from a long lost cousin!!! And one who writes bearing new information for me. Thank you so much for contacting me.

I had almost given up on hearing from anyone else on this board. Having recently moved, my research records have been languishing in storage. You have now given me new inspiration to dig them out and start my active research again.

Nathan B Morehouse has been my brick wall for years. Until your email I did not even have confirmation that Nathan was buried in Tekamah Cemetery. I was starting to suspect he was buried in an unmarked grave on his farm or something like that. Nor did I know Myron Morehouse's middle name of Holly. Despite my countless hours of research I had not been able to uncover these two bits of information.

I would be thrilled to get any information you could supply on Nathan and any of his decendants. Of course the offer is extended to you also. Anything I have I am willing to share.

I have no information on Nathan's parents other than that they may have been born in NJ. I do not know the maiden name of Nathan's first wife or her place of birth. I have seen it listed both as in Vermont and in Canada.

I look forward to hearing from you. You may contact me at tsmorehouse@yahoo.com

Again, thank you! Hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Thomas S. Morehouse

My great aunt's maiden name was Lucille Florence Hill who was born in Hartington, Cedar, NE. She is found listed on the 1910, 1920, and 1930 state census records.
She is listed with a William E. Anderson who was her first husband. They had a son named Melvin Anderson.

It is not know if William passed away or if they were divorced.
She then married Tommie Morehouse. Her obituary taken from the Sioux City, IA newspaper shows a man named Arthur as the widower.
Hello Back, Jim.
Yes, Sarasota and Kingston are truly the best of two worlds.
We have family and several friends who head that way for half the year, two of which are in the Sarasota area.
Andrew Zachow just recently sent me a wonderful photo taken in l904 of my grandmother, Ella Morehouse Waldron, with her 6 sisters and l brother.
Thanks to Howdy Waldron I also have a fascinating class photo ...my father William R. Waldron taken in l934 on top of the Empire State Building. It really is a classic. Also each one of them signed the back of the photo. You may know some or several of these people. Doris Patton, now Town Historican was kind enough to send me a Morehouse/Hitchcock lineage, but sure, if you would like to upload what you have on the Morehouse line I'd be happy to have it.
Please email me direct at ghukle@nycap.rr.com so that we can trade information and I'd like to send the photos.
Also, I'm trying to get the word out to all Waldrons re: the Flushing Remonstrance Celebration the is supposed to come off Dec. 27th in NYC.
I'm wondering if my grandmother was named after your Ella?
Best to you.
Gloria

Yes, George and Caroline were my great-grandparents. I'd love to learn more of the Delabas. Wondering if there are still any of them around up in the North Creek area. According to Doris Patton they came from Vermont. Do you know Andrew Zachow?
Best,
Gloria
PS It's fine to email me direct at ghukle@nycap.rr.com

Gloria:
I am in Sarasota, FL now. Our home is in Kingston, NY during the summer from May to Nov. The best of both worlds.
I lived in Wevertown growing up. Class of '52 JCS.
My family has lived in Johnsburg Wevertown area since 1790.
My book was also presented at the North Creek Library in 2001. It contains much information about the formation of the town of Johnsburg.
Judge John Richards was the first superintendent for Johnsburg and the subject of my book.
You can find that on my web page. www.richardsstudio.net
I knew Howdy Waldron. Although he would not probably know me, he would know my family.
I have most of the Morehouse families done up to about 1920 or so.
If you would like, I can upload them to you. I have sent them to John Austin and some others, so they are out there.
Waldron is in our line somewhere, but I will have to look it up.
For clarity, My concern is with Ira Morehouse b. 1821 who married Abi.
Amasa Morehouse, b. 1843 married Ella Brown-Nichols.
She then became Ella Morehouse: b. 1857 and died 1888.
Ella Brown NIchols is my great grandmother.
Actually the Morehouse connection has nothing to do with me, genetically.
But, my grandmother had three siblings that were Morehouse. She being a NIchols.
I will get back to you about the Waldron connections.
Regards,
JIM Richards

Othaniel Morehouse

My husband is looking for information on Othaniel Morehouse we believe he was married to Stella Gould. We've also seen her referred to as Stellar Gould. Their son was Hubert M. Morehouse.

The records indicate they were married in Ohio in 1844 but he may have been from Conn. His birth was in the 1820s. We'd appreciate any information on Othaniel and his family.
