Hi Diana. My name is Barbera Moret and I was born in the Netherlands. I now live in Australia. My Dutch Family Tree goes back to the year 1600 when Francois Moret came to Rotterdam in the Netherlands from Belgium. We are French Hugenotes and Francois was an artist woodcarver. I suspect that you are descended from him because his grandson Leendert Jacobszoon Moret who was born in Rotterdam in 1628 died in Delaware USA and whose wife Sijgje Sijnhorst Died in Iowa USA. It looks as if a branch of your American family ended up in Newfoundland. Any way Iowa has always been very popular as a destiny for dutch migrants. Good luck in your search. Barbera Moret.

Hi, John.

Wow! So many years have passed and I'm just now looking on this message board again to see that I didn't see your post and thus didn't reply until now. It seems that my younger sister, Whitney, also posted. I don't know a lot about my family history other than that my Grandpa was Roger Moret, from Edgerton, Minnesota. I'm not sure about all of his siblings but I do know of Will Moret. He, my Dad, and his mom, Celia--maiden name Kuipers--(Grandpa Rog. died a long time ago), live in Ripon, Ca, where a lot of Dutch people migrated a few generations back. Roger's mother was named Jennie and I can't remember my Great-Grandpa's name (possibly Joe). I believe that the farming went bad in MN, so when my dad was 6, in 1963, the family moved to CA, where my great-grandparents and other family members had already moved. Perhaps you can shed even more light on my family history? Take care. angie moret

Hi John Moret. My mother, Mary (Moret) Fineday has an uncle Nick Moret in Fargo, ND. Her father is the late Edward Moret.
We all took a trip to Pella, IA one year to see the town that my grandpa's side of family founded - it was interesting to see.
Uncle Nick has been to a few, if not all, of our graduation open houses in northern MN - six of them with one more due!
Just wanted to mention this as I came across your message of uncle Nick. I don't know anything about this site, just was browsing through, and it was cool to read about something I knew of - little as that may be. ~Rebekah J. Fineday

Hi Angie,

My Grandfather Nick Moret, Sr. was from Minnesota and moved in his later years to California. He was one of nine, I believe, and two of his brothers went from Minnesota to Canada to try to get a homestead to farm. I believe their names were Mike and Rokus Moret, but I would have to check to verify names and dates, etc. Some of their descendants are in the Vancouver area, I believe.

I think we probably have a connection. If you could provide some info, I would be happy to look into it.

John W. Moret
Seattle, WA

Hi Roni,

I just found your message today. I do believe you are correct and that we do connect. I am thinking Leendert Moret was Elizabeth Moret's older brother.

I found an interesting link on Moret history on the internet under the heading Stamreeks Moret (search Yahoo on this), but unfortunately for me, it is all in Dutch, but we can still read the names and dates none-the-less.

There are also some other links out there that document our history as well. Feel free to e-mail me at jmoret2001@yahoo.com

John W. Moret
Seattle, WA

Family History to Share

I have history to share with anyone in regards to the Moret last name in Puerto Rico. I believe that I am a direct descendant of that name. I am able to go back five generations. I am also able to direct you to the very first Moret that arrived in Puerto Rico and why. I also have knowledge of the Moret name in Spain, and the Moret Law. My grandfather, born in 1913 is still able to give me all of the information to share with others about his aunts and uncles. Apparently his father, a renowned Physician was a very, very busy man, if you know what I mean...Perhaps he sowed his oats a little too much... Contact me.

Hi Whitney,

You are undoubtedly a relative of mine in some fashion. I am John Moret, originally from Fargo, ND; son of Nick Moret, Jr., from St. Paul, MN. My grandfather is Nick Moret, Sr., son of John Moret for whom I was named. Great grandpa John's father was Leendert (Lenny) Moret who emigrated from Sgravendeel, Holland landing in Baltimore. Their party sailed down the Ohio and they eventually ended in Iowa where they founded the city of Pella, Iowa. Morets spread from there to Orange City, Iowa and on to Minnesota.

If you can give some additional info about your background we could probably nail this thing down fairly easy. Talk to ya later. JM

John,
I think we connect somewhere. I descend through Lijpje (Elizabeth) Moret, she married Leendert Van Der Linden and they immigrated to the US; landing in Baltimore on 11 Apr 1847 on the ship Nagasaki. They then traveled to Iowa settling in Prairie Township, Marion County, Iowa; same place I find Leendert Moret in 1850. Lijpje was born 31 May 1813 in S' Graavendeel, Zuid Holland. If you think we have a match, contact me at rfraysier@new.rr.com

Roni

MORET's in NY, PR, NJ, etc.

Hi:

My aunt Carmen & I have just started researching the Moret family name and are looking for descendants of Simon Moret.

This is some of what we know (or think we know) so far. As far as my Titi Carmen was told as a child, the Morets are one family; migrated from France to PR; and settled in Ponce and Guayama.

Simon Moret came from France in 1816.
He had a son - Clemente Moret who married Francisca Gallart.
They had a child named Simon Moret Gallart - born around 1854 (Mayor of Ponce from 1907-1914). (I found the 1920 census and it said Simon married Matilde Perdomo Morales and they had three daughters - Josefa Moret, Ana Moret and Carmen Moret)
I can't find this in the census, but my aunt has told me that Simon had a son named Enrique Moret who had children by the name of Olimpio Moret, Carmen Moret and Angel Moret (I believe there may have been another brother named Sixto Moret). Their mothers name may have been Amelia Rosado Martinez.
Olimpio had several wives who passed away and several children before he married my grandmother (his last wife) Engracia. Olimpio and Engracia had several children: Carmen Moret, Luis Moret, Maria Moret and Carmelo Moret.
Luis is my father and I have a sister named Mellissa and a brother Luis Jr.
As for Angel Moret, Olimpio's brother, he has several children also (Angel passed away last year)....one named Mildred Moret who has written on this message board. My Aunt Carmen (Mildred's first cousin) would love to contact her if you have any info. on her.

I would love to hear from you if you have any more info. on the Moret family!

Please feel free to contact me at minydi@yahoo.com.

Thank you,
Minydi Moret
