Hi Julie
Apologies for contacting you through Ancestry, but I have sent you several e-mails to your own address since your last one to me 11th October (they included some info. I thought would be of use to you), as I have not heard from you I wondered if you had received them. If you do not think you have any further information then that is okay, maybe you can just let me know and I will not bother you again. I am very grateful for what you have already given me it has allowed me to move on with the Rogers line. Many thanks once again.
Kind regards Lauraine & David Baker

Hi Chris, and many thanks for your latest.

Ron was indeed very pleased to not only be 'found' (especially as other branches of his father's siblings' had believed that Harry had died soon after being shell-shocked in WW1, and hadn't even known that he'd gone to Australia, let aalone had married and had a family!) but I'm currently trying to discover for Ron, as well as for his cousin George (in the UK), more about the Parker family (Harry's middle name and his mother's maiden surname) and its connection (other than by marriage) with the Morgan(s).

Ron has yet to mention the Harris/Branch family from "Courtney st Pentre St. Johns Glamorgan", but he probably thinks that I have enough to do as it is with both the Morgans and Parker families, but thank you for the extra snippet of information re your and Ron#s Grandmother.

I too have enjoyed our correspondence, thank you, and I'm really thrilled that you took the time to contact me in the first instance, especially as it could very well have been that I didn't know about Ron's existence etc.

Wishing you all the best, and please give my love to Oz. I was out there in 1992 undertaking research into my late mother-in-law's ancestry - but that's another story, and best left to a different message board!

John

John.
Glad to see you have already made contact with Ron. Job done. I have no interest in following anything but a direct line of relationship in my family tree so I will leave the Morgan line there.
Ron would have been real pleased to have found more information on the Morgans as up to a few years ago when I reconnected with his family he knew very little apart from his own experiences of his father. We do have other Welsh connections with Ron's and my Grandmother Edith Ellen Harris (nee Branch)born 1879 in Courtney st Pentre St. Johns Glamorgan. Thanks for the correspondence Chris.

Hi Chris, and thanks for your wonderful reply,

Now, to start at the end and work towards the beginning of your message, although indeed my Username is duckbilledplaty, I don't live in Australia, but rather I live on the Gower Peninsular in (old) South Wales, UK, not that far from where Harry Morgan's father, John was born.

The reason for the username being as it is, is because many years ago, I had an email address with a company called Madasafish, and somehow, duckbilledplaty seemed to go with it (I've since changed email addresses, but have kept my username for ancestry!)

Right then, having established that I'm not in Oz, and where I do live, now to how I connect with both Harry and with Morgan Morgans (you might need to sit down for a long time whilst I give the resume!)

My late Mother's Mother was the daughter of Jonas Jonson (a Norwegian Sailor) and his wife, Mary Jane nee Morgans, and MJM's parents' were Morgan Morgans and Jane (nee Davies).

Morgan (who as you can see from my heading, was born at Pentreclwydau, which is in the Neath Valley) married Jane Davies at a place called Gwindy in Lower Llansamlet, Swansea, and their first-born child was John Morgans. Mary Jane Morgans (my Great Grandmother) was born the following year, and Morgan and Jane's third child, James Richard Morgans, was born c1860.

Circa 1862, it would appear that John's mother, Jane, died, although where and when has yet to be discovered, but in 1866 Morgan remarried, and at the time of the 1871 Census, although Morgan plus his new wife and her two daughters, plus 2 of Morgan's children from his new marriage were on that year's Census, both John and Mary Jane (James Richard had died back in 1862) had totally 'disappeared' (and believe you me, I have tried just about every way of finding either/both of them, including using sources others don't use!)

In 1877, Mary Jane Morgans resurfaced, and not only at Swansea (which was where she married Jonas Jonson that year), but also providing the correct details of her parentage etc. Following that year/event it has been easier to follow her through the rest of her life, even though at times she did provide confusing (to say the least) details!

To cut a very long story short, it has only been in more recent months that I've discovered a lot more about John Morgans and his life-story than I'd previously known (and I'd known quite a lot about him before that, especially as my late mother usd to talk about him and how she'd met him on more than one occasion when he visited Swansea during the 1910-1920 period, and she also had a family photo of him and his children).

John Morgans, as you may or may not know, married twice. His first wife was Frances Amelia Edith nee Gladwin (whom he married in India, and by her had several children), whilst after Frances ?died, he married Henrietta Ann (nee Parker) - also in ?India. As to the when's and where's etc, I'm still following up various leads, although I will probably have to head up to London at some time in the future and to the India Office Library there to view the various Church records for India, and then plough my way through the contents!

Henry Parker Morgan(s) was, as far as I'm aware, the first child of the 'union' between John Morgans and Henrietta Ann Parker, but as to the year and place of his birth, not only are they rather ambiguous (to say the least), but part of the 'problem' stems from how old Harry said he was when he joined the army during WW1 (he said he was much older than he actually was).

I'm currently trying to discover more about the Parker side of the family, especially as Harry provided an address for his WW1 discharge papers which was where a Parker had lived (in Suffolk, UK), although what exactly was the connection is what I'm trying to discover.

As to your cousin, would that be Ronald (Harry's son in Canberra?) for if it is, then he and I have been in contact since I 'found' him about 4 months ago, and it's thanks to some papers he's kindly copied and sent to me that I've been able to go down some new 'avenues' previously unknown to myself and the Morgans family in general.

Hopefully (as I've just updated my profile) you will be able to see my contact email address, and should you contact me that way, then I will not only be able to share much more information. You might also be interested to know that since early 2008, I have managed to find about 98% of Morgan Morgans' descendants, and as such, I have a (non-public) Group on Google under the name of morganmorgansdescendants.

Hope that all of the above will be of great interest, and I look forward to hearing from you again,

John

The birth date was given to me by his son and was entered on his marriage certificate, however there was a conflicting date given on his application to join the Australian navy. Iam forwarding this email to my cousin to seek permission to give you further details of descendants of H P Morgan. In the meantime would you reply with your relationship to the above. Also do you live in Australia as your duckbillplaty address indicates.
regards Chris.

Hi
Just wondering if you received my e-mail of 20/09/09 in answer to yours of the same date, in case you did not my reply was:- Ruth Rogers was my grandmother, making John Rogers my gt. grandfather. Ruth married Alfred Morgan in 1915. Any information you may have regaring the Rogers family we would be so grateful to receive, as we have come up against a brick wall regardng my grandmother's family. We are interssted in the birth place of Mary Rgers (nee Baker) she was the mother of Ruth & wife to John.
Apologies for taking so long to get back to the wonderful hope you've given me in your message that you "may have a link to John Morgans who married Henrietta Ann Parker", through their son, Henry (Harry) Parker Morgan; unfortunately holidays and a few other things got in the way of my replying, but now that I'm here, I look forward to what you have to add.

First of all I'm very interested indeed to read that "Henry (Harry)Parker Morgans [was] Born Nov 3 1897 in Cossipore India and died Mar 17 1967 in Perth Western Australia", for although I know that his parents' were John Morgan(s) and Henrietta Ann (nee Parker) I've yet to find anything which pinpoints his birth to a specific place and a specific year. Have you been able to see the Indian Church record with those details? I'd be very interested, as I would indeed be to find out where and how you fit into the family!

Hi
Thank you for e-mail, my gt. grandfather was John Rogers, my grandmother was Ruth Rogers (Morgan). We know John married a Mary Baker but there seems some confusion as to where and when she was born. We also lost the trail for John as she declares herself a deserted wife in 1891 census & he does not appear again in any of the censuses after 1881. Therefore ANY information you may have would be marvellous, as we had almost given up hope on following this line. From the 1881 census I have 2 sons listed for John & Mary - Charles & Edward was either of these your gt. grandad. Strangely my mother Mary, Ruth's daughter married a Baker, so the name Mary Baker came around again.
I am on holiday for 2 weeks as from Tuesday, but hope to speak with you again.
kind regards
David
My grandfather was Alfred Robert Morgan born 1883 in St Giles London, he was the son of Thomas & Frances Morgan, he died in Salonika in 1918. He did have a daughter Mary who was my mother but she never died until 1985.
I have also been looking for relatives of my grandfather Morgan without much luck. Mrs. Morgans signed Rebecca's death certificate in 1927 in Scranton PA . Would like to see if the Morgans can give me information on Jonas Hein (Alice's father).
Lloyd, My G.Grandparents were Ann and Thomas Morgans. They had 5 sons and three daughters, my Grandmother Mary was one of the daughters, born in Merthyr approx. 1868. their third son was Joseph born in Tredegar approx. 1866-1867. In the 1881 census the family were living in Colli Row Bedlinog. I have been lead to believe the family went to America in the 1880's(not sure how many of them) Do you think it is the same family. Margaret.

John Griffiths was born in Wales and moved to England. Don't know if Rose was from Wales or England.
Morgan Morgans of Pentreclywdau, Llansamlet and Neath

An entry in the Cadoxton Parish Register (Baptisms) showed Morgan Morgans (bo.1832) to have been the 'illegitimate child' of Richard Morgans, 'Footman', of Aberpergwm (which is near Glynneath, Glamorgan)and of Mary (although her surname was omitted from the same Register).

Morgan was apprenticed and later became a 'Boiler Maker'. travelling all around Wales and England. On several censuses he entered that his birthplace was 'Pentreclwydau' (which was a hamlet close to Aberpergwm House), although in his later life, he went to live in Neath, which is where he died in 1906.

Marrying twice (his first wife was Mary Jane Davies, who he married in Llansamlet c1856, and his second wife was Mary Elizabeth Whitlock, nee Paxford, who he married in Southampton in 1866), Morgan Morgans fathered a (known) total of 7 children, three of whom died young.

Of his 4 surviving children;-
1. John Morgans, bo.c1854-56 in ?Cadoxton, Neath, went out to India with the army, where he married and had 8 children by his first wife (Frances Amelia Gladwin) and 3 children by his second wife (Henrietta Ann Parker).
2. Mary Jane Morgans, bo.c1857 in Llansamlet, remained in Wales and she too married twice; one to Jonas Jonson, a Norwegian Sailor (and they had a daughter, Minnie Jonson, who married George Henry Jones c1901 in Swansea), and then she married Henry Raymond (a welsh miner from Begelly, Pembrokeshire) and they had 3 children (Lily, Sidney and William).
3. Thomas Morgans, bo.c1867 at Southampton (the 's' was in later years, dropped from his surname) later moved to Wales, where he married Mary Davies and founded a Morgan dynasty in Neath.
4. Matilda Catherine Morgans, bo.c1872-73 at Kenfig Hill, married Thomas Trickle in Neath, but later moved to the Liverpool area, where they had a family.

If you are related in any way to any of the above, I would love to hear from you, especially if you have any information which could help to answer the many broken links I'm still trying to mend (find)

I had almost given up on tracing Edward's branch of the Morgans family! How interesting. Your father must have been Victor J Wilmoth born 28 Aug 1908. I do not have any other details. He married Joan in 1936 at Westminster.
Edward John had siblings Ethel Alice b.1883; Harry Stephen b.1891; Mary Rebecca b.1895; Thomas Bookham b. 1901 and my father Warwick Nixon b. 1903. Only Edward, Thomas and Warwick had children. Thomas had two daughters Joy (deceased) and Patricia (lives in Sway), Warwick had self Anthony Warwick (aged 74) and Janet (71)(lives in Chesterfield).
I have traced the male line back to a Morgan Morgans who married Anne Williams in Walcot, Bath 1n 1770. No Welsh connection found but that may be much earlier. I have filled in most of the history in the 19th and 20th century and would be happy to forward copies. Please contact tonymorgans@aol.com or 01522 788137. Would love to talk and sure that you will be able to add more.

Re: Morgan Morgans Family in Greenwich area

I am the grandson of Edward John Morgans, born about 1885 in Lockerbie in Scotland. I was 10 years old when he died and remember him well, and have quite a few photographs etc. My mother Joan Morgans was the elder of his two daughters, but as she died when I was 6, I was never able to get much information about his earlier life. My Aunt Diana died a few years ago, and she had a certain amount of information, but as she lived in Sweden for some time, I never got much information from her. My aunt's son died two weeks ago, and he left a certain amount of family history, which I may have access to. So far as I can make out, my grandfather having started out life in what appear to have been fairly humble circumstances, seems to have prospered.

I don't know if this is the Edward Morgans you are looking for, but it seems possible. I cannot recall meeting any of his relative, but I believe he had a sister.
