About Morrison, Martha
From it came Col. John Morrison, for many years a prominent and respected figure in the county government. He was for years the Clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, and an extensive land-owner. His grave, along with many of his kin, is in the Old Scotch Graveyard on the Widow Bethune`s Hill." Source of death date: [ Col. John Morrison died May 12th 1870. ] "Although not part of the Family Bible, these notes were made by either Mary Vassar Deaton or her daughter, Mary Deaton Monroe. They were made in the same ledger book in which the women kept the estate records of Levi Deaton and Andrew Graham." O., Carthage Tnp., Moore Co., N.C., 60 years old Living with: 1870, Her son, I. H. Caddell-age 36 (Iverson Haywood Caddell) Occupation: 1870, House Keeper Notes for UNKNOWN: "Unknown": Reported to have been John Morrison`s slave, and whose descendants still live in the Carthage area. ".....she is believed to be buried in an unmarked slave graveyard thought to be located off to the lower northwest side of the Old Scots Graveyard....." (located on Big Oak Road in Bensalem Township, Moore County, N.C.) __________________________________________________ Daughter [Martha Morrison] "After becoming a `free person` at the end of the Civil War, Martha adopted the last name of her former owner, thereby becoming known as Martha Morrison.
