She was the daughter of Joe Currans and Rachel Lutton.

If you go to the Ballarat Genealogy website and look for Casterton area the Currans family were recognised as pioneers of this area. The details of their marriage is also shown here.
I have Also had contact with Diane Butcher who was a Currans. She is from a different line I think it is Joe Currans Son.
Happy Searching

An update: John MURISON (c1690-c1765) had a son, Andrew, who married Mary HERDMAN. Her grandmother Nicola FORBES was the grand-daughter of Margaret BLACKHALL (of that Ilk) and Patrick FORBES.

Andrew and Mary had five children and for reasons best known to themselves had all five registered in the name MORISON. They were Francis (didn't marry), John (who married Jean FARQUHAR), Alexander (who married Mary CUSHNIE and who later became Sir Alexander MORISON), and Margaret (who married William Gordon McCRAE).

I would be interested to hear from anyone with connections to these families.

Chris Duff

Morison family from Stornoway, Sct to Australia

The study of my Stornoway Maciver family history reveals a branch that married a Morison family from Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland. This Morison family migrated to Australia and I am trying to trace descendants and information. Brief details are:-

William Morison, merchant in Stornoway married Isabella. One child was:-
Roderick Morison (c.1794-1863) was a Stornoway Bank Agent, ship owner and JP. In 1825 he married Barbara Macaulay Maciver (b.1825), dau of Dr Alexander Maciver and Mary McLeod. After Roderick’s death she and the family migrated to Australia: the children were:-
1 William Morison was born in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis on 16 August 1826 and was living there at the time of the 1841 Census. Known children were Roderick Morison and Frederick Morison.
2 Alexander MacIver Morison (b.1829) was a grocer in Stornoway. He was living there at the time of the 1861 census and was present at his father’s death in 1863.
3 Malcolm McNeil Morison (b.1831) was a bank clerk in Stornoway in 1851. He migrated to Australia and became an Agent for one of the banks in Ballarat: he did well but entered into a money speculation and lost not only his own wealth but also that of his mother and his sisters. In 1880 he had no job. He married an Irish lady and had a large family.
4 Mary Annabella Morison (b.1833) was a governess in Stornoway in 1861.
5 Isabella Johanna Morison (b.1835) and was living in Stornoway in 1851. It is said that she married John Hassell (?) [A quilt is displayed in a museum in Western Australia, the information states” the maker was Mrs Morrison in Stornoway, Scotland in the 1860s. It was then owned by her daughter Mrs John Hassell, Kendenup, WA and donated to the National Trust WA by Elizabeth Atkins grand-daughter of the maker. It is now stored at Woodbridge, Midland Western Australia”. This is likely to be from this family]. They had four known girls, at least two of whom married.
6 Roderick Daniel Morison (b.1837) was living in Stornoway in 1851.
7 Jessie Ann Morison (b.1839) was living in Stornoway in 1861. After the failure of her brother Malcolm’s Australian speculation, it is believed hat she and her sisters Annabella and Johanna took up teaching at St Kilda, near Melbourne, Australia.
8 Donald Morison (b.1842) was a seller at the National Bank of Scotland and was living in Stornoway in 1861.
9 Annabella Morison (b.1844) was living in Stornoway in 1861.
10 Johanna Macintyre Morison (b.1849) was living in Stornoway in 1851.

I would be delighted to share my information with anyone interested.
I found Sametha Voorhees b. 24 June 1846 Fairview, Fulton Co., Ohio married to Sylvanus Alpaugh on page 670 of the 2 Vol. Van Voorhees books. Her brother is also listed as Richard Davis Voorhees who m Margaret E. Middleton. His number is 13763 and Sametha's is 13764. There is an * by their number which means the Van Voorhees Assoc. has additional info that hasn't been published yet since the numbering system in book 2 ends with 12787. So their is no info about Richard's children.
I have info about her parents and ancestors and there is a list of her siblings. Her parents are given as John Simonson Voorhees and Phebe Tunison.

Re: Samuel Eliot Morison

What do you need to know? I have his history back to Scotland with John Morison born 1628. He came to Londonderry, NH, USA This is all laid out in great detail in a book by Leonard Morison written in 1882 about the Morison family. In a later book about Peterborough, NH it details the descendants up to and including Samuel Eliot Morison and his children. Catharine was his fourth child b. Oxford, Eng. July 25, 1925. You probably already know he was a famous naval historian.

The second book was written in 1951 (reprinted in 2001 for a family reunion), and is available thru Out-of-print bookstores online for $125. I want a copy, but this is too steep. The book is "Nathaniel Morison and his Descendants" by George Morison. Let me know what you want to know.

Jim

Morrison/Morison/Murison

I'm trying to trace the Murison name back from c1690. My mother was a Murison and her father, John Murison, was able to trace his ancestors directly back to John Murison (c1690-c1765) who was a crofter on the lands of the Laird of Troup in Banffshire. But where had they come from before they got to Banffshire?

Grandfather Murison thought they were connected to the Morisons (Morrisons?) of Habost, but I have my doubts. The Morisons of Bognie? It would seem the name Murison was well established by the late 1600s in the Gamrie area of Banffshire and they stayed around for another 150 years or so. Many lie buried in the Kirkyards of Alvah and Gamrie. But how long had they been there before 1690 and where had they come from? Does anyone have any bright ideas?
My great, great, great grandfather James Grassby was also among those arrested. He later became general secretary of the National Charter Association.
I have started a free access website to share some of the Chartist names I came across in my research.
Hello all Morison listings,

My name is Maureen Atkinson and I am researching the historical record of one Charles Frederic Morison born in London (about 1846) who came to British Columbia in about 1864. He joined a brother W. Morison and then got work with the cariboo wagon road then the Collins overland telegraph. After the telegraph contract was cancelled in 1867-8 he settled in Fort Simpson BC to work for the Hudson's bay company. He married a woman by the name of Odell DuBois and had at least 3-4 children. If there are any descendants out there please let me know so I can talk to you about copyrights to his manuscript dated 1920 ish. I am also very interested in the missionary work that he was involved in and especially his wife Odell who was part Tsmipsean (aboriginal)

Thanks Maureen Atkinson, Local Colour research
Terrace BC canada
