Perhaps we can help each other with our research. Barnhart was Margaret second name. Margaret Barnhart Gostlin born 1855.

Hi there, this about David's wife Alice Cora Thompson (my ggg grandmother via daughter Elizabeth; 1854-1929). I don't why Robert Fair or why his name is Robert as her second marriage when it was her third. Her first was to a James Maloney who had a son name Raymond Ross Maloney (1873-1946). Then she married to David Morningstar and had children (that I know): Elizabeth, Frank, Charles, George Homer, Philip, and Margaret Morningstar. As I don't know when David died, I wish I know. She then married William Henry Fair and they had one son Robert William Fair. That what I have.

Morningstar Indian Family

Hi,
I have a lot of Native American queries with "Morningstar" as the last name. And quit a few, as myself, do have pictures to show.
1)My 3rd great grandmother was Rebecca Morningstar who lived with a family in Ohio (Holmes,Wayne) and married Hiram Jones. I too have a photo. She said she was Blackfoot-which could come from the Shawnee, or they had Blackfoot Cherokee.
2) There is another Rebecca Morningstar in PA. She married a David Crouch. The researcher too has pictures, and she is Shawnee.
3) Down in Darke County OH there is a Willow Morningstar (adopted and renamed Rhodilla Shaner) and her brother George. They were found by a Shaner gentleman with dead parents. They could be Shawnee,Cherokee or Miami.
4) There is also a Mary Lotus Morningstar who married a John McCleese in PA. A family member too has a photo of her. They have said ether Shawnee or Cherokee.
Can we somehow come together on a web page and share what we have? We maybe all related. The years of all these folk fall around the same time.
Please, lets get in touch with each other, and help each other out.
Thank you.

Charidy,
I would really like to get in touch with you, or anyone that has Native Americans linked to the last name of Morningstar. I just got a picture of my 3rd great grandmother, Rebecca Morningstar. She is Indian. I have got a hold of a lot of different family members-ones that dont even know of each other, and the same thing has come from all of them, that it is Blackfoot from Ohio.
Please someone get a hold of me. I would like to work with someone and work together and find her family. Thank you.

Hello, I have just started using this tool and find it very informative. I am looking for details (Indian tribe, etc) starting with Solomon Morningstar born in 1814 in Preble County Ohio. I have found a number of Morningstars in this area. Have you ever tied Rebecca back to Solomon? I also see you have Morningstar as two words.. Is that the way your is spelled. Hope to hear from you.

Mark
mmorning@tampabay.rr.com

I have been doing research on Bernard Morningstar and his family for about three years.
Bernard was the father of my husband's great grandmother Fanny (Morningstar) Graham.
I know Solomon's first wife was Sarah Lawton and I have her marriage from Marriage returns and Marriage records at courthouse.
I found your grandfather Tomer's surname in Solomon's obit.
I have his second wife Mary with a son Willie Morningstar born in 1896, but I am not sure where the info came from. You could look for a marriage for them a year or two before that date and find out her name as well.
I am excited to find someone else interested in the family.

Yes, I have some photos. Of course, I have a few photos of Fanny as a grandmother and her family. I have an album of photos of the Graham and Morningstar families. Unfortunately, I cannot identify most of them. One is labelled Ben Morningstar and dates at least to the second half of the 19th century. I have never been able to find who he might be. I have a beautiful set of photos picturing either Bernard and Charlotte Morningstar or Fanny's Graham in-laws.
Did you know Charlotte was Bernard's second wife and not the mother of Solomon, Fanny, Regina or Kate?
I would enjoy keeping in touch. I travel quite a bit and may even come your way some time.
I am a retired librarian and I live in Milwaukee.

In Fulton Co. (Mich./ Ohio border, west of Toledo) Ohio he saw several barns with the name Morningstar. I have not checked these out yet.
When I find out more, I will post.

John Morningstar and Susan Rice Morningstar were married in Jefferson Co. Va in 1821. They moved to Columbus Ohio around 1828. John died in the Asiatic Colera epidemic that hit Columbus in 1833 ( Died Aug. 7th). The couple had four children with one surviving- Joseph Morningstar. He married a woman named Julia whose maiden name may have been Anderson. Susan died in Columbus in 1899. I hope this bit of information may be helpful to you. If you have anything pertaining to this family, especially John's parents, etc. please let me know.

We live in Michigan, by the way, and the Donaldsons have been here for quite awhile.

Solomon and Sarah Lawton's daughter, Sarah Morningstar, married John R. Donaldson and they had a son named George Marshall Donaldson. He married Elizabeth Kennedy and had a son named George Robert Donaldson, who is my father.

I am very grateful for the photos and stories that Margaret has shared with me, and I am collecting photos from my parents to share. I would love to see any information or photos that you have, as well.
Would you be interested in getting in touch and exchanging info?

Clara was born around 1869 in Pennsylvania.

She died 5 May 1921 at the home of her daughter Delia Asenith (McLean) Morningstar in Flint, Michigan. Laura is buried with James in the Richland Township Cemetery, Hemlock, Michigan. James was the Justice of the Peace for Hemlock in addition to other public offices. James and Laura were married 2 Oct 1865 in Greenwood, Steuben Co., New York and came to Michigan in 1878. Much of the information comes from the writing of Delia (McLean) Morningstar in the Michigan Pioneer Records at the Michigan State Library in Lansing. I have more inforamation. He lived on Court Street in Flint for a number of years. I'm seeking his death date, location and cemetery location. Same for Delia. I have letters from Delia to Levi and to her husbands brothers. One lead says Edward died in Owosso, MI. No confirmation.

Katherine Morningstar Smith, abt 1840, living in NC

I am seeking info on Katherine Morningstar, born abt 1840 according to census records and living in Polk Co, NC 1880-1900. Married to Stephen 'Decatur' Smith, 1845-1917, NC. Mother of Laura (b1865), Juliann (b1868), John Stephen (b1871), Mary (b1872), Jeannie (b1876) and Martha (b1879). Her husband, Decatur Smith, was listed on the 1910 with another wife, Sarah E Reel, so I assume that Katherine died after the 1900 census since the children are with Decatur and 2nd wife on 1910 census. I have been unable to find any other info on Katherine Morningstar other than this, even after checking all online sources I can think of including cemetery listings.

Would greatly appreciate any info anyone might have or any suggestions.

Would love to know if anyone has any info on my mysterious g-g-grandmother "Cathie Morningstar" as she was listed on her youngest daughter's birth record. (Martha Smith b15 Mar 1879, Polk Co, NC) She married Stephen Decatur Smith (b1845) but must have died sometime shortly after 1900 census, since Decatur remarried. When my father was young he was told that he had and "Indian princess" in the family, and his mother's bible has the word "Morningstar" written under "Her Grandfather". In all my research, I did not see any signs of anything until I found Martha Smith's birth listed with the name Cathie Morningstar.

Any suggestions or ideas?

I am so excited to hear from you again.

And I am really happy to know that you have pictures! Is there any way you might be willing to scan some and email them to me?

I hope you will check out the family webpage I am building ... tomer.tribalpages.com .... I have a photo of Bernard and Regina's graves on there .... a distant cousin ... Janet Kettering (she is a Tomer descendant) works at Homewood Cemetery where there are many of my family members buried, including Bernard and others.

I think it is so interesting that you are in Milwaukee - there is a branch of Tomer family members there ... Kathy Estlund, who was a music teacher there; she is on Facebook too.

re: Bernard's wives. I actually did know that Eliza Morningstar was the mother of all of Bernard's children ... but it is great to hear it from a real source and not have to rely just on a census.

My grandmother was Charlotte Morningstar but we called her Granny ... and we knew Margaret Morningstar Blake who we called "Aunt Ette". My dad was crazy about her son, Clayton Blake. I have also had email from the Donaldson's who are grandchildren of Sadie Morningstar (another daughter of Solomon).

You probably know this, but Solomon was remarried after Sarah Lawton died. He married Mary Black and they had a son who was raised by Mary's sister. I believe he became a lawyer and went by his adopted dad's name which was Pitcairn. I have not been able to trace this anywhere but they were Pittsburgh people.

I would love it if you came to visit ... my family is so excited about finding new family members!

I'd love to hear about Fannie .... how does the family grow from Fannie to your husband. It seems it must have been through women.

By the way, my sister Patty has a daughter and she named her Kimberly Morninstar Trimble. Kim had a daughter who has the middle name Morningstar. And I have a daughter named Alison Morningstar Rummens! We LOVE the name and the family too!

Can't wait to hear more about other pieces of the family history,

Margaret Tomer Rummens

There was a Morgenstern/Morningstar family that arrived in America in the 1700s, after our ancestors, that were Quakers. they settled in Bedford County, Pa but moved to Canada during the American revolution, to escape persecution because of their pacifist views. During the War of 1812 some of them moved to Michigan and some descendants are there today. I met a Glenn Morningstar, from Michigan, several years ago who was a member of that family. Other than that I don't know any more about them. A John Morningstar , e-mail senatorfan@comcast.net may be able to help, I think he has some contact with the Michigan family.

The Quakers and Mennonites both hold pacifist views, but I think Mennonites are closer to the Amish in their religious beliefs, except the Mennonites don't shun modern conveniences.
Johann Morgenstern and Juliana Catherina were Evangelical Lutherns, Johann was an organizer and elder of the Evangelical Luthern Congregational Church. The current church, St Matthews is a mile away in Hanover. A great many of the Morningstars in America today are descendants of their son Philip and his wife Anna Marie Eva Kuntz. There are Jewish people named Morningstar in America, we first became aware of them when the book "Margery Morningstar" was published in the early 1950s and later made into a movie starring Natalie Woods. I just saw you inquiry this evening, so I'm a bit late in responding I would guess you have received a number of responses before this.

There is another family of Morningstars, descendants of Johann Engeibert Morgenstern, who came to America, in 1748, twenty years, after Johann and Julianna. He settled in Frederick County, Maryland where many of his descendants still live and hold a reunion every June.

A third Morgenstern family came over about the same time, they were Quakers but went to Canada during the American Revolution and came back during the War of 1812 and settled in Michigan.

This is probably more than you want to know, but it is interesting to some of us Morninstars.
