The Washington Morris who was the son of Joseph was actually John Washington. He had a brother named Samuel. Joseph had several brothers & sisters. I had determined as you had that his father is Moses, and is the Joseph listed in Moses will. Moses father was Thomas, as per the deed that I am sure you found. This is where we digress. In my ancestry is Aaron Morris, who is a different person that Aron Morris the son of Moses. From the Bible record of Aaron, we know that Aaron was the son of a John Morris who was "said to have come from Wales." We originally thought he was related to the John Morris who will is found in 1742. However, from extensively researching all the information on land deeds, determined that the John Morris whose will is of 1742 lived in western Craven County, and whose descendants stayed in that area. We have determined there is a separate John Morris (and appears to be a completely separate family of Morris) that lived in eastern Craven County. He and his (supposed) brother William came about 1745. Based on where all these eastern Craven County Morris' lived, and how they interacted, we believe that this John Morris who use a "J" as a mark, was the father of Thomas Morris (and therefore grandfather of your Moses), another John Morris (who used an "M" mark), and my Aaron Morris. The western Morris group and the Thomas Morris of the 1789 will do not appear to be related to our Morris group.
