Classification: Query
My great-great-grandmother Eliza Ellen MORRISON, was born 8 October 1811 at Charleston SC and
died 21 September 1876 near Woodland, Freestone County, Texas. She married William Ellis De BERRY
13 December 1836, Greene Co. Alabama; they resided Sumter Co., Alabama.

In her De BERRY family bible, Eliza Ellen Morrison states that her father was Spencer MORISON [Morrison]
and her mother was Mary Ann; they were of South Carolina.

Spencer MORRISON was born about 1774 in South Carolina and died 23 October 1837 in Chester Co. SC.
We "suspect" his parents may have been Robert Morrison of St. Thomas Parish and Rebecca SPENCER,
of St. James Parish, who married June 25, 1767, in South Carolina. This marriage was recorded in the
St. James Parish Register, with Joseph Spencer and Lydia Perdrian as witnesses. Children of record
for Robert and Rebecca {SPENCER} MORRISON appear to be:

Ann Morrison, b. 7 Nov 1768, St. James Santee Parish, Charlotte Co., SC
Rebecca Morrison, b. 9 Nov 1771, St. James Santee Parish, Charlotte Co SC
Pius Morrison, b. 5 May 1784, St. James Santee Parish, Charlotte Co SC

If they did have a son, Spencer, he would have been born [possibly] between Ann and Rebecca??

Spencer MORRISON was enumerated on the 1810 Census of Charleston SC; 1820 Census of Chester
County SC; 1830 Census York SC. A Spencer MORRISON also appears on the 1840 Chester Co NC census,
and may possibly be a son of the senior Spencer MORRISON, who died in 1837 Chester Co. We have
found few extant records bearing the name of Spencer MORRISON, however, we did find that Spencer
Morrison signed his Mark as a witness to the will of Simon Beckham, dated 8 October 1818, recorded
in Chester Co SC Will Book G, page 86, Apt. No. 5, Pkg No 76, Probated 1 Feb 1819. John Gunthorp, Sr.
was the other witness.

Although the names of Eliza's siblings are unknown, there is reason to believe she may have had a sister
Ann Rebecca MORRISON, born about 1801, Charleston SC., who married BROWN. She may have also had
a male sibling, J. H. MORRISON, born about 1810, South Carolina, who was born in SC and appeared near
the De Berry family on the 1850 census of Grimes County, Texas.

The Morrison, De Berry or Brown family may have had a FLEMING connection as the following are
enumerated on the 1850 Grimes Co TX. Census [November 5, 1850] as residing in the De Berry home
The info within the brackets, most of which are middle names, has been added by this researcher:
215-231 William E. De Berry [m] age 41 NC
Eliza E. [Morrison] [f ] 37 SC
Ann [Rebecca] [f ] 12 AL
Mary [Delitha] [f ] 10 AL
Eliza [Ellen] [f] 08 AL
William E. [Ellis] [m] 06 AL
Albert [m] 02 AL
Ann [Rebecca Morrison?] [f] 49 SC
Hobson H. Fleming [m] 14 AL
Martha E. Fleming [f] 13 AL

This Texas census seems to indicate a relationship of some sort between these families?

If you are researching this family and can assist me in finding information on Spencer MORRISON, his
parents and/or his siblings, I will be ever so grateful.
