Joseph A. Morrison >> New Hampshire / Maine

This person has been my brick wall for 10+ years!

Joseph A. Morrison married my GGrandmother Alfretta (Etta) Pinkham June 12, 1915 in Bath, Maine. According to the certificate of marriage he was 22 years old at the time of marriage, a Teamster and born in Manchester, NH. His mother is listed as Mary (Lamay) Morrison, born in Montreal, Quebec and living in Raymond, NH. His father, Fred Morrison is deceased, a former lumberman, born in Montreal, Quebec. This was the first marriage for both Joseph and Etta.

They had a child named Frederick who was born October 30, 1915 (already found him). They were living outside of Maine and according to my Grandmother’s social services records Etta wanted to go back to Maine. Joseph put her on a train promising to join her soon and she never saw him again.

This is a crazy story so I’m condensing it as much as possible. Etta gave Frederick up for adoption and later remarried in 1923. Since Etta remarried in 1923 she would have been widowed or divorced.

If you have any information on Joseph Morrison please contact me. Thank you in advance!

Preston Morrison

I am searching for information about my step-great-grandfather, Preston S. Morrison. According to the 1910 census, he was born around 1847 in Virginia. Family lore has it that he was a professor at the University of Tennessee. He was a teacher in North Carolina when he married my great-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Stevenson (Robinson). If anyone has any infromation on Preston, I would greatly appreciate it. I can find no record of him prior to 1910 or after 1910.

Did Hugh have a son John? My ancestor was John Morrison who went to Canada about 1828 and settled in Saint John, NB. His wife's name was Lillias Parkhill also born in Ireland. Census just shows that he was born in Ireland, so i don't know where in Ireland he was born or came from. Couldn't find any ship records on him.
Where in Sligo did Hugh come from?

Trying to trace the movements of Roderick Nicholson Morrison who arrived at Quebec on the ill-fated Empress of Ireland on July 23, 1909. Sailed from Liverpool on July 16. Aged 19 and born in South Africa, I believe him to be my wife's great uncle who was born to Roderick Nicholson Morrison (same name, b Stornoway Isle of Lewis) and Ellen Kendall nee Holman (b Camborne, Cornwall) in Uitenhage, South Africa on 7 September, 1889. Cannot trace him in Canadian census records. An old note from my father in law stated that "Rory" Morrison (his uncle) had died in a shipyard accident in Glasgow, Scotland, circa 1910 but can find no death record or newspaper report of any such accident from 1909-1911.

My grandfather was John Watt Kemp Morrison (1888-1967). I have never found a connection for the middle names, so was wondering if our families are related - mine are from Aberdeenshire. My GG Grandparents were Peter Morrison (1803 -1875) & Margaret Youngson (1813-1897).

I'd love to have a copy. I have been trying to convince my Morrison family that we are NOT related to John Wayne, even though that would be neat if it could be proven. Some of my family members bear an uncanny resemblance to john Wayne which i believe to be total co-indence, but who knows. This paper might help me. I have a great grandfather named Thomas Marion Morrison, but I am almost sure that the Marion comes from his mother's side, not the Morrison side. Thank you so much for providing this information.
Susan Faggert
dixiereb1@comcast.net

Wonder if anybody has been able to connect the William Morrison who applied for a Revolution pension

http://revwarapps.org/w1455.pdf

with the Morrisons of Iredell County. This William Morrison said he was born in Rowan County, but the original Rowan County included both Iredell and Burke County, NC.

Also, how is he connected to the Sheriff William Morrison of Burke County:

http://www.burkesheriff.org/Morrison.htm

Possible Iredell County, NC --> Cherokee County, AL connections

I'm a descendant of Andrew Morrison of Cherokee County, AL. I now believe him to be a grandson--through William--of the "Miller William" Morrison, who had a mill on Third Creek in Iredell County, NC in 1852 and claimed to be the first [white] inhabitant of those parts.

I would like to find out more about his son, William, who died in 1822, but I don't know where he died or where he is buried.

John H. Morrison (I), whom I believe to be the son of William (d. 1822), was already living in Cherokee County, AL, with a woman about his age, by 1840, and probably earlier. He served in the Alabama Militia for the Creek and Florida (Seminole) Wars, and was awarded a total of 160 acres of Bounty Land in Cherokee County for his service.

By 1850, the following households were living in Cherokee County:

John H. 44 (b. NC)
Mary 30 (b. GA)
Emily 10, Mary 8, Elizabeth 6, and Amanda 2, all born in AL

Andrew 43 (b. NC)
Elizabeth 43 (b. NC)
Mary 18 (b. NC)
James 13 and John H.(II)10 (b. TN)
Andrew 4 (b. AL)

[Andrew--and household members consistent with the above--appear on the 1840 Census in Bradley County, TN, shortly after the Trail of Tears led the Cherokee Indians from that area.]

This is the household that intrigues me the most:

Mary Morrison 75 (b. NC)
Elizabeth 50 (b. NC)
Manerva 38 (b. NC)

Now I have traced Manerva through a few other censuses, and I believe she had married a man named J. Knight by 1870, was widowed and was living with her nephew George-- John H.(I)'s later son--in 1880. Unless she was an honorary aunt or actually a cousin, that would make her John H. and Andrew's sister.

But I do not know yet what happened to Elizabeth or Mary, or where any of the three of them fit into the family. I had believed that Mary was the mother of John H., Andrews, Elizabeth, and Manerva, but I have no proof. If a third wife of William, she may have been a stepmother to the older children. If Manerva was a sister, she would have been born just about the time that William died. Noted that William had a daughter named Sarah, and Manerva may have been Sarah Manerva, but Sarah is reported to have died in 1836, and Manerva lived until at least 1880.

And honestly, I don't even have proof that John H. and Andrew were brothers.

Hi Dixon

When i was about 5 years old my father William told me I was called after Robert Morrison, with long red hair who fought in the 1798 rebellion (United Irishmen). This is 55 years ago. In 1994 Michael Wayne visited Belfast trying to find the Irish connection. Its a long story but we never got to discuss our claim to be the lost Waynes. Now I'm researching for a possible TV documentary "Me and John Wayne"! So any help would be much appreciated.I've sent off for the DNA test as part of Clan Morrison project.

Best wishes
Rob

Hi Dixon

Robert Morrison's father was John and he died when Robert was just a baby. I belive Robert called his frist born son, Alexander after his father's brother. Robert was an only child. Our family of Morrisons have the same male names, Robert, John, William and Alexander and came from an area close to where Robert was baptised - Connor Presbyterian Church near Ballymena, County Antrim, home to another famous Hollywood actor, Liam Neeson.

Rob Morrison, Belfast, NI

Hi, I was hoping to hear from you! Aunt Kay told me yesterday she had spoken to you about me.

I haven't heard many stories, I have a great family resource who I go to who has been very helpful. There's more info I have found in which I am unable to discuss here, due to its sensitive nature. I am glad you wrote the story of Bobby, I only read somewhere he was 14 when he passed.

Uncle Reid did change his name, he was born Samuel & changed it to William. I have tried several times to contact Uncle Reid's children, but they won't communicate. Uncle Reid spent 2 weeks with us once & him and I talked for hours about his wife & children, one of the few times I saw a grown man cry. He asked me to tell them something if something ever happened to him, but I guess I'll never have the opportunity. Uncle Reid was a beautiful man and had so much love for others.

I have never heard of a book but I know GMa Helen had done some extensive work before she passed, but a lot of the information had disappeared, especially after GPa George remarried. I started this genealogy because my dad's one wish was to find out exactly where his grandfather came from as well as his grandmother & confirm some of the stories.

Before she left on that trip she begged my dad to let me go with them, she called my dad and I all the way up until the night before, but due to exams I wasn't able. She knew she wasn't going to make it back home before she ever left. I heard she told everyone they visited this would be the last time they would see her, or something of that effect.

I would love to hear the bootleg stories! It's great to have someone who knows of these things and is able to share!

If you follow the link Rich sent you will be able to look through Leonard Morrison's book on early Morrison immigrants to the New England Colonies and beyond. You might want to download it to your hard drive to go through at your leisure.

Another idea would be to become a Participant in the Clan Morrison Society YDNA Project. You will be able to contact other participants you match with to share information. The Morrison YDNA Project is at www.geneticousins.com/morrison and is public.

If you would like to discuss this further, send a private email to rsmorris@bellsouth.net

Bob Morrison
Clan Morrison Society of North America

Rowley Boyd is my oldest ancestor, I am having trouble finding info about him. Looking for his grave. Nancy is often mentioned as his possible spouse, perhaps died in childbirth since he raised the family himself

I would greatly appreciate a lookup on John Morrison, b. appx. 1700 in Belfast, m. Prudence Gwyn. Any information on him or any of his descendants or ancestors would be most helpful, thank you!

Morrison Family (Co. Down, Ireland --> Montgomery, NY)

Hi everyone,

I am just getting started on all of this and am seeking some assistance. My lineage takes me back to John Morrison (b. ~1700, Belfast, Ireland) m. Prudence Gwyn. He came to America before 1773. He and his sons were Patriots and some were soldiers in the Revolutionary War. However, I am having difficulty going back any further than this John. Does anyone have any help/resource/information that would pertain to this family and perhaps provide a link to other branches of the family? I'm trying to get a good genealogy put together, beginning with my Surname, which is Morrison.

Any info appreciated! Thanks!
