Martha Holmquist age 80 of Vicksburg died Monday January 1, 2007 in Borgess Nursing home in Kalamazoo. She was born December 15, 1926 in Elwood, IN the daughter of Fred and Edith (Croy) Mort. On September 3, 1946, Martha married Kurt Holmquist Jr. in Centerville and the young couple soon moved to Vicksburg.
Martha was a long time employee of the Vicksburg Schools working as a cook in the cafeterias at Sunset Elementary and Indian Lake Elementary before she retired. She also worked at the Vicksburg Broadcast many years ago.
Members of her family include her children Kurt of Portage Lake, Kerry (Dale Hansen) of Vicksburg, Kevin of Vicksburg, granddaughters; Niki and Anna Hansen, Danielle, Erika and Andrea Holmquist, a brother Ed Mort, sister Beverly Dennis, sister in law Martha Mort and many nieces and nephews and her special companion her dog Suzie. She was fondly remembered by her grandchildren for her special family dinners every Wednesday.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, her parents, brothers Fred and Bill Mort and a brother in law Richard Dennis. Martha has been cremated and no public services will be held. She will be buried with her husband at Fr. Custer National Cemetery where a private graveside service will be held at a later date.
