Thanks Eric looking forward to receive whatever news you have. I have told you earlier about Christian's brother Soren and sister Maren. I am now certain ( almost ) that also his sister Hansine settled in the US. It is definitely her son Nels P.Nelson who is listed in Christian's household in the 1900 census ( nephew ). On top of that I have found that Christian's brother-in-law Jens Nielsen( who was married to Christian's oldest sister) emigrated from Denmark and settled in South Dakota with six of his eight children following his wife's death in 1879. More about all this later. keep up the good work. Rgds Preben
Hello Preben,
I wanted to reply to this message to confirm the letter you sent recently. This message board works. I traveled to Oroville in early September and found the Head stones of the family. There is a headstone nearby for the family Lund. I feel they are some relation to the Mortenson clan. It is understood that William and Gertrude had a cousin that worked in the county government offices that was able to advise when properties in the area were in tax default. More information to follow on that lead.
Best regards,
Eric

well this is ecxiting for me as monty has told us very little in the way of family. the person you are in contact with in b.c. is more than likley monty's daughter, we have never met her and he did not tell his son's of her until quite late in life. you did miss one of jeppe's marriages tho, he was married to Florie Touzel, Minnies sister prior to marrying Minnie they had no children and it is not something that most of the family on either side really acknowledge. we have never heard about karen until now. monts sons are sandy jason miles mortensen & thomas jeppe mortensen. greg's(jason) children are sherrie and jason. art is still in brooks and both mont and greg live on what is left of the family home that jeppe had built up in brooks. if you wish for any pictures let me know i'll do my best to convince mont to give some up.

Just in a hurry: I have written a snail mail to the above person in this thrread from Qualicum Beach, BA, Canada. I can send the same picture etc. to you if you hand me your e-mail. But the letter I wrote was like this:

Instead of continuing on the Net, I try this way and attach to this letter at paper with a photo of the Mortensen family from 1911. On trhe photo from left you see: in the background: my grandfather Christian Marius Mortensen (he always called himself Marius Mortensen) born on the 2nd of Augsut 1890, then comes Soeren Reber Mortensen, born on the 22nd of February 1855, then comes Jens Reber Mortensen born on the 31st of August 1897. On the front row you see from left Marie Mortensen born on the 2nd of June 1893, then Karlo Ellegaard Mortensen born in 1904, then Kirsitne born on the 1st of May 1861, and finally you see Jeppe Dybdal Mortensen born in 1900, we do not know the date however.

I also attach to this letter a copy of an article about Jeppe Mortensen in a Danish Paper about hid adventurous life in Canada.

I have copy of a letter Jeppe, called papa Jack, from 1980, where he writes a letter to his sister, Marie. He mentions two marriages, one with Sigrid with whom he had two sons: Harry (married with Lola with whom he had 4 children) and Arthur (unmarried, manager of the chicken farm en Brooks, Alberta), and one with Minie with whom he had Karen (who died of cancer and had two daughters) and two sons, Monty (married to Joan with whom he had two sons) and Greg (married to Annie with whom he had a son and a daughter).

On this side of the Atlantic ocean things have developed like this: My grandfather, Marius Mortensen (oldest brother to Jeppe) had 4 children with his wife, Ane: Henry (who became a farmer himself, married with Marie, but no children), Else (married to Joergen, 4 children: John, Lena, Per and Henrik), Egon (my father, married to Inger, 4 children: Karin, Rita, Allan (me) and Lisbeth, and Erna (married to Juhani, 2 children: Claus and Jeppe).

I can provide more information about the family if this turns out to be a real connection.

I also send you a photo collage of the farm from Samsoe, where the Mortensen family started out. I visited this farm last summer, but it´s no longer owned by the family. Jens Reber Mortensen inherited the farm much to my grandfathers surprise and harm, since he was the oldest son. I don´t know what happened to Jens and his line of the family. Marie became very old, way past 100 years, and Karlo never married, he lived with his mother all his life.

Enough for now,

Allan Skovsgaard Wien (born Allan Skovsgaard Mortensen in 1960)
Adress: Klostergade 68, DK-8000 Aarhus, Denmark
E-mail adress: aw@allanwien.dk – homepage: www.allanwien.dk
More photos from Samsoe: http://picasaweb.google.dk/allanwien/JuniSams#

Hi,
Seeing info on Morten Jensen born 1807 in the Kobenhavn region of Denmark.
He was married to Susan Neilsdotter (b. 1809 Kobenhavn).

I'd like to see if anyone has any info on his children.
I know of only one: Christian Mortensen 1838-1908, Emmigrated in 1881 to Denmark, WI.

I'd also be interested in information about Morten Jensen's antecedents. I *think* his father might be Jens Mortensen b. 1782 in Kobenhavn, DK and his mother might be Ane Christjandotter.

Any additional information is appreciated.

Thanks,
Evie

Mortensen Montcalm Michigan

I have hit a wall in the research of my gg-grandparents Christian Olaf and Frederikke Henrette (Shultz) Mortensen. And I was hoping that someone out there might be researching the same line. Or might have some suggestions that would help in my search. This is what I have been able to find.
Both born abt.1854 in Copenhagin Denmark
Married 26 Nov 1875 St. Pauls Church in Copenhagin (IGI)
Came to the US in 1906 with two of their children and settled in Montcalm County Michigan.
Christian died on 14 Jun 1909 in Maple Valley Twp. Montcalm and is buried in Trufant Cemetery.
The only thing I have been able to find on Frederikke, after the death of her husband, is that she is listed in the 1910 and 1920 census living with her son Martin. I have not been able to find anything on her death or where she was buried. Nor have I been able to find anything on either of them prior to their marriage. Resrarch in Denmark has proved to be very frustrating for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My grand grand parents were Jens Mortensen and Juliane Marie Christensen, and I have found a lot of their ancestors. I know, that 3 of their children immigrated to Californien: Christian, Paul and Anders. Perhaps you are an ancestor of Paul? I have found out, that he had 2 sons: William and Paul Thomas.
JENS (JAMES PETER) MORTENSEN m CAROLINE PAVEY in LONDON

I know that Jens came over from Denmark at some point between his birth and marriage to Caroline Pavey in London. Marriage was 1887 and certificate states Jens had changed his name to James, and was aged 36 at time of marriage to Caroline, so born about 1851. He had two sons with her, Frederick (b.1888) and Herbert (b.1890). Frederick changed his surname to Morton, whereas Herbert kept his as Mortensen. Ideally i would like any info on the Danish connection, but any would be greatfully received. Thanks in advance for your time

I am Lisa Mortensen married last name Hammoudeh now living in Phoenix, Arizona since 1976. My father Glen Walter Mortensen had a sister Mathilde we called her Aunt Tillie. Yes we lived in northern Illinois and Aunt Tillie lived in Racine. I as a child growing up use to visit her and she had a beauty salon in the front of her house. I have some family history on the Mortensen family. My father passed in November of 2004 he was born in 1924 in Chetek, Wisconsin. Aunt Tillie was older than my father I believe.
