The word in my family is that my Mortimer ancestors came from Canada. Part of this is from my grandparents visiting a "cousin" George Mortimer in the Toronto area in about 1952 (lived alone in a cabin near a lake). There may have been an Ida Mortimer who married a Dr. Dean. I can trace back to a George Mortimer who married a Jane Peacock in 1833 in Ohio. I speculate that this is the Mortimer who immigrated. Does this match anyone else's research?
