Noah Moses and Georgia Moses Families

I'm trying to learn more about the possible connection between all the black Moses families in Sumter, Lee, and Dougherty Counties in 1870, and the Noah Moses family. Noah Moses wasn't a big-time planter, although he had a dozen or so slaves in 1860, after moving to Lee County from North Caroline in the early 1850s. By 1870 they had left the region, although there were several African-American Moses families in the area.

Using the slave schedules, I was able to connect Chester and Laura Moses - who were living in Americus GA at the time - to Noah Moses (as a side note, Chester had a daughter named Sophronia Moses, and Sophronia Moses was also a daughter of Noah Moses who died in the 1850s). My mother's family is descended from George and Caroline Moses, who also lived in Americus at the time, although I wasn't able to match up the ages as well.

Still, I think there could be more to the story. By 1870, Noah Moses had moved his family to Pittsylvania VA, to the same neighborhood where a Joseph Moses was living with his wife, Catherine. It's not clear that these two Moses are related, but the fact that they moved there made me wonder whether Noah Moses was trading slaves with other Moses relatives.

So, to wrap it up, I'm wondering whether anyone has any information on Noah Moses, why his family left Georgia, and if he had bought more slaves (or gotten slaves from family) between 1850 and 1865? Does anybody have any other explanation as to why there were so many Moses families in this area of Georgia
