Jacob,

My husband's Aunt once told me that when she tried finding a job at the Beich Candy company from Bloomington, IL, she was rejected because "Mosier" was a jewish name. This came from the founder himself in the 1920's. Aunt Maxine was deeply hurt and confused over this. She came from a small town with a Christian background. To this day she believes there are jewish roots somewhere.

At least now I can tell her where and how. Thank You.

Yes, I have ancestry with Dutch Masier family, that changed their spelling from Mosier to Masier once they arrived in Holland from France. Mosier is Jewish, though many many converted from Judaism over time, while others retained their Jewish faith. I guess it all depends what part of the Moser family you belong to, but we're all related.
~Jacob

Re: Seeking descendants for John A. MOSIER & Sarah J. DIVINE, MO & OK

Hi, I am so glad you responded to my original post. We are cousins, my gg-grandmother was Elizabeth Mosier, a younger sister of John A. Mosier. She married Thomas Alfred Roy in Missouri and they moved to Crawford County Kansas before 1880. She died in Kansas sometime about 1886. I have not been able to find out exactly where and when she died and where she is buried. My great-grandmother Elsie Lucinda Roy and her sister Nora Louella Roy were both small children. They went to live with the grandparents, Michael and Mary Mosier. I don't know if the Mosiers had also moved to Kansas before coming to Oklahoma or not.

Michael Mosier, John A. Mosier and Thomas Roy all came together to Oklahoma in 1889. Michael and John's claim are next to each other, Thomas's claim is a few miles away. They were south of Guthrie in Logan County near the small town of Navina and Seward. Michael Mosier died in 1897 and is buried in the small Navina Cemetery. He was a grave marker, but there is no mention of Mary his wife being buied there. I don't know if she died in Oklahoma or if she moved to Kansas when John A. Mosier and his family did.

My great-grandmother, Elsie Roy married Charles Hayes when she was 14 shortly before her 15th birthday. Charles Hayes had come to Oklahoma but was too young to homestead in 1889 so he worked on various farms and worked for a while for Michael Mosier and that is how they met. They homesteaded in 1891 in southeast Logan County in an area that was part of the Iowa Indian Territory. Their original log cabin is still in existance on this homestead site. My grandmother Blanche, was the oldest Hayes child and when she married my grandfather, Fred Graham, they took over this farm.

My father, their 3rd child was Byron Graham and he also grew up on this homestead. I was born in 1949 and still live a few miles away in Luther, OK.

I have all my family records on Rootsweb.com under the database "megsmess". If you search for Michael Mosier, you will see "megsmess" listed in the right column. Click on it and it will show you all the names in the index.

I hope we can help each other catch up on family information and data. You can contact me directly at MargaretGrh@aol.com.

Margaret Graham
Luther, OK

Elizabeth Onstatt m Jacob Moser Randolph Co NC. When did Elizabeth's father, ?George Onstatt, die? Does anyone have his will? And Jacob's brother Tobias Moser, who married Nancy Myers/Meyer -- Is there a list of their children? I'm interested in the two that married Elliotts, there being a lot of Elliotts in Randolph Co as well. Tobias died 1837 in Fountain Co IN, what happened to Nancy? I think the daughter Martha/Patsey Moser Elliott was still living in 1850 in Martin Co IN.

I will be appreciative of anyone's help!
Karen Treacy
Charlottesville VA

The following info was taken from research by Rev. Hoagland of Bradford County.
Samuel A Mosier, s/o Stephen & Mary (Corner) Mosier, was b 7 Oct 1836 in NY State. Samuel Mosier, age 14, was living w/David Whipple in Durell Twp (Now Asylum) and attending school in 1850. He was a veteran of the Civil War. He m Mary McCracken, d/o Wm & Mary Eliza (Lamphere) McCracken of Rummerfield, PA. He was a resident of Lamoka in Barclay Twp, Bradford Co, at the time of his demise on 2 Nov 1909 and was buried at Powell. Samuel & Mary had 10 children, but we have the names of only part of them.

1) Wm (Eldest) went West; 2) Charles Orlando m Mary Sollick; 3) Samuel Everett & 4) John, both lived in Rochester; 5)Frank died as a young man; 6)Maggie.

I went to school with the grandson of Charles Orlando Mosier, but we haven't been able to make a tie between Samuel Mosier's line and mine.

I descend from John (b 1782) & Elizabeth (Barey) Mosier who came from Switzerland to NJ and eventually settled in Dushore about 1823. According to "Streby's History of Sullivan Co" and another researcher, their children were John, Jr.; Mary Magdalena; Christian (my g g grandfather); Peter; Anna Maria; Mary; Daniel; Sarah; Caroline; and Ellen.

If you would like more of Mr. Hoagland's info on Samuel's line, please e-mail me at lindan@epix.net

Linda Puterbaugh

I am descended from a line of Mosiers in Crawford Co.,PA. This line - originally spelled "Moser"- came from Berks and Lehigh counties around 1828-1832. I have compiled quite a bit of info.on this line, but have not been able to establish who the original immigrant Moser was who started this line.

Travis,
I am researching a Frances Mosier, who was married to a Mr. Moore, and then to a John Meek(s). Both marriages took place in McNairy Co., Tennessee. According to census postings, Frances was born around 1864 in Tennessee. Sometime between 1880 & 1900 she moved to Arkansas with John Meek(s). Might this Frances be part of your line?
