EL CAJON, Calif. -- Gordon 'Gordie' J. Moss, 85, formerly of Muscatine, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at his home in EI Cajon.

Services were held at United Methodist Church, EI Cajon. Burial was at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery, San Diego, with military rites. The family requests donations be made to Sharpe Hospice Care, La Mesa, CA .

Mr. Moss was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Eldon, the son of Harmon and Esther Moss. He married Darlene Myers in 1941. She preceded him in death in 1969. He later married Joyce Weber in 1971. She preceded him in death in 1997.

He worked for the Muscatine Post Office as a carrier for many years before transferring to EI Cajon in 1968. He retired after 34 years with the postal service. He began another career with the United Methodist Church, EI Cajon, and retired from there after 17 years.

While in Muscatine, he was an avid supporter of the high school sports programs, active in the First Baptist Church and was a Mason.

Survivors include a son, Craig S. Moss of Muscatine; a daughter, Cheryl Handley of The Villages, Fla.; two stepsons, Donald Weber of Loveland, Colo., Michael Weber of San Diego; a stepdaughter, Maril Weber of Norman, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, three brothers and a grandson.
