I have a Captain Billy (William) Moss who is my great great great
grandfather. He was born in Culpepper County either in Virginia or Gerogia
when they were still included in the British Colonies. The reason why I
mention both states is because the state boundaries have been change
since the Revolution and there seems to be many William Moss in both
states. He was born in the year 1764 and died in 1864. My grandfather was
Clayborn Moss.

He had a daughter, Felica or Felicia Moss that married Ambroise Plumbar/Plummer. I am doing research for my son in law, Eric Hilaire and his father, Edward P Hilaire.

Murder of John Moss by James Bright

I am looking for information about the murder of John Moss. He was killed by his stepson James Bright in NSW Australia in 1884. John was married to Mary Anne Divney/Deveney and they had a daughter Louisa.

James' parents were Mary Divney/Deveney and James Bright. They married in NSW Australia in 1843 and James Jnr was born in NSW Australia in 1852.

Does anyone know where I might find more information?

My mother in law died July 3, 2000, in going through the paper work I have found a very detailed history of the Moss family. The house she lived in was built by A.F. Moss born 1878. His wife Kizzie sat down in the 20's and recorded the history of not only the Moss name but who married who and who died from what. I have also a copy of an article printed in the 50's that is a complete outline of the Moss family in Texas 20+ pages. The Moss family fought a historic battle here...the last of the Indian wars at Packsaddle Mountain in the Hill Country of Texas. A.F...I know his name is Aaron but I think is spelled different..had 8 siblings....A.F.'s coorespondence is still at the ranch...including that between him and Sam Houston's son...it is like exploring a museum. I will bring it home this weekend if I can be of help to anyone researching the Moss family please let me know.

Quicker B. Moss[?] (1897-1899)

Last Saturday, I was at the Moss Family Cemetary in Georgia and I came across a tomb stone that I could actually read and it said Quicker B. [08/06/1897-10/10/1899], the son of J.W and S.E Bird,and I am assuming that this boy was a Moss, but I am not 100% certain. On the side of his stone it had a little poem and it went like this:

"How much of joy
How much of light
Is buried with a darling boy"

And I am hoping that someone out there can please help me with this boy and figure out if he was a Moss or not?

The plots in this cemetary were all messed up and some of them you couldn't even read, because of years of being there. I am thinking that the Cemetary is over 100 years old and if anyone can please help me with this I would greatly appreciate it very much

I am searching for info on George Moss born 1852,Bury St Edmunds who was married to Sarah Ann Harper. They settled in Gloucestershire, St George & Bristol. Their son James Arthur Moss was my grandfather. I was told George had a son that left England and went to Australia where he died in a bush fire. I pickup John Moss in 1830 in Hall Co. Georgia. The 1850 Census gives South Carolina as birth State.

I've just recently began researching my Moss family. My maternal grandfather is a Raymond Hermond Moss of Arkansas. I have no info on the man except what I gathered from the SSDI report I sent for. Here's the only info I know: Bn December 29, 1922 and Died Sept. 15, 1993, last known residence was in Monticello, Drew Co., Arkansas, 71655, father was John Arenn Moss and mother Callie Reedy (I assume they are from AR also). I also believe that he had a brother named Delmon. I've been told that John Moss was in the lumber business and that Raymond worked for him. Raymond and my grandmother divorced when my mom was a child. She is their only child. If there is anyone with more info on any of these people, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All Listers! I am looking for a Samuel Mosse born in Crosby Ravensworth, Westmorland about 1662, his wife's name was Mary Fayrer born on the 14th November 1666. They married in 1691, again in CrosbyRavensworth. They had a son called James Mosse born on the 30th June 1698, also in CrosbyRavensworth. He also had a son called James Moss born on the 13th February 1729, again in CrosbyRavensworth. His wife's name at this time unknown. i have a huge mystery that I hope someone can solve: who is the James Moss born in England (according to all I can find on him) who married, as a second husband, to Deborah (Dean) Moss? James died in Canada after 26 aug. 1845 but before 1855; he and Deborah were the parents of: William Daniel; Joseph K.; Martha Maria and Lorenzo Wesley Moss... Deborah was married the first time to Lorenzo Lothrop Moss, in 1826. She married James Moss 02 June 1834. I cannot connect him to any of the Moss/Morse in the genie book nor any other research I have done over the years... Deborah, her children and some other relatives (nephews and nieces I think) moved on down to Eaton County, Michigan, as did so many other Dean and Moss families.

Parents unknown but believed to be from New England.

He married Elizabeth Matonaire. Alternate spellings of her maiden name: Matoniar; Montaniar; no connection to Montayne found as yet.
She was born February 14, 1768 in New York or New Jersey. Parents unknown - also believed to be originally from New England.

They were married about 1786 -- probably New Jersey. Could be New York or Pennsylvania.

Joseph Moss died October 2, 1850 in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
Elizabeth Moss died April 3, 1843 also in Luzerne County Pennsylvania.

They first show up on the 1790 census in Northampton County, Pennsylvania.

Her parents were John MOSS (1779-1868) and Elizabeth ROSE (1781-1819) and Mary was supposedly married to Robert Davison/Davidson. He might have been a brother to Moses Davison/Davidson 1804-1880.

This MOSS family was mostly in Fayette Co., PA until about 1840 and then into Washington Co., PA.

Anyone have a book of marriages for the time frame c1822 in those areas? Or maybe someone has a Will index with a Robert Davison/Davidson listed? I sure could use a break with learning about decedants of this couple:

STARKE-Dorothy V. Moss, 65, of Starke died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Shands in Jacksonville following an extended illness.
Ms. Moss was born in Maddox on August, 26, 1943, moving to Starke from New York, N.Y.
Ms. Moss was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and Sunday School Superintendent. She earned a degree from Lake City Community College and owned an in-home daycare center.
Ms. Moss is survived by: two daughters, Valencia Moss and Lucetra Moss, both of Starke; two sons, Andy W. Hodges of Kentucky and Anthony J. Williams of Panama City; sister, Onetta Fuqua of Queens, N.Y. and 19 grandchildren.
Ms. Moss was preceded in death by a son, David Moss and brother, Edward W. Coney-James Sr.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev., James N. Wilcox presiding and the Rev. Micheal Johnson as eulogist. Interment will be held in Oddfellow Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Haile Funeral Home of Starke.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, at Haile Memorial Chapel from 4 to 5 p.m. for the family and from 5 to 8 p.m. for friends, also one hour before the service at the church.

Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are. This is here as a lasting memorial for Ms. Moss.

Mrs. Moss was a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church for over 60 years. Before her health declined she enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles, gardening and reading. She loved her family as well as her church family.

Surviving are her four children, LueVata Kerns, Corinne Chastain, Kenneth Ogle and Gary Moss; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Moss was the last member of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Moss, one infant daughter, one infant son, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at Cleveland First Baptist Church on Tuesday April 1, 2008, at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Hal Parris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at The Howze Mortuary.

Lewis MOSS married Roseanna VANDERGRIFT Jan. 24, 1883, Sedgwick CO KS. She was born Sept. 3, 1863, in KS, the daughter of Samuel Vandergrift and Mary Ann Cookson. She died July 17, 1890, in Wichita KS.

I am trying to locate a Jerome A. Moss who was married to my great-Aunt Ruth (Thornton)(Woods) in the early 1930's. They were in Callaway County, Missouri then and were married in Fulton, Mo. Jerome had a couple of farms in McCredie, Missouri.
She later divorced him and moved to Kansas City. I would like to find marriage records and/or divorce records.

Frances Moss, b ca 1820 North Carolina

I am searching for the parents of Frances Moss, b ca 1820 in North Carolina. Frances married John R. Mize on 2 Mar 1839 in Pittsylvania Co, VA. They lived in Pittsylvania Co and had 5 children before 1850. John died in 1859 and most of the children married and moved to Rockingham Co, NC before 1870. I loose Frances in the census after 1860.

There is some confusion about this Frances Moss who married John R. Mize and Rebecca Frances Moss, b ca 1822 in Virginia and married Giles Coleman Dunbar on 30 Nov 1846 in Pittsylvania Co, VA. These are two different people.

On the marriage record of Frances Moss and John Mize, it is noted that Frances was born in North Carolina. It may be that their family was living in Virginia at the time of the marriage. Also, on the marriage record, the "S/C" was William Moss and Surety was John P. Moss. I am not sure what S/C means other than maybe having something to do with signing for the bride since Frances was 19 at the time.

I would surely appreciate any help in identifying the parents of Frances.

Do any of these names ring any bells for anyone? They were residents of Manchester, UK in the 1800's. No info on Emmanuel except he was a dentist. His son, Barnet (also a dentist) died in 1845 and Susannah, Barnet's wife, in 1879. Any information on any or all of them would be greatly appreciated. Emmanuel's wife was Frances ..also no details.
