Hi All,

I've been doing research on and off for 27 yrs. on sveral lines in my family tree. I have a Motz/Moats line around the area of Washington Co., Md./Franklin Co., Pa. For a long time it has been believed that Edward Moats(b.1844 pa. d. 1912 pa)was the son of a Henry Moats(b.1805 d. ?)& Catherine Thomas. I got some recent info that suggests otherwise:

Moats Edward Moats, s/o Jacob & Catherine (Monn) Moats, b 14 Feb. 1844, d 14 July 1912; 68 yrs., 5 months. *Grove Funeral Home Record.

When I did a census Search(Heritage Quest)I found only one Jacob Motz in the general area.

1 = male 16 and over(Jacob)
3 = males under 16 yrs. old.
4 = females including head of houshold

There were no other Motz's in the Washington Co., Md./Franklin Co., Pa. area after that. What I think may be the case is, they changed their name to Moats(both are numerous in this area).

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated on this Jacob Motz!
