Patricia: Thanks, there is a great deal on your line going back to @ 1716. If you will send me your parent's birthdates and your brothers and sisters full names & birthdates, we can sign you up for the private MOYLE WEB Site. That way you will be able to see what we have back to @ 1716. Would you recheck your father' birthdate? We have a different date than what you gave me.

Edith (Moyle) Boyle
Rus23sel34@juno.com

I'm looking for descendants of the Moyles that lived in Strawberry Point, IA, in the late 1800s. The names I have include Florence Moyle Richmond who was a young lady in the 1890s and Mabel Moyle who was a toddler at the time.

The Mayle family may have been connected to the last names Troppman, Nichols, Dunsmoor, and Puffett.

Hi there Norman,
I have been trying to find out about my branch of the Moyle tree. In fact I replied to Louis re John Grenfell Moyle and Eliza Augusta Moyle (nee Guilland). As far as I have determined I am a descendant of the Gen John Grenfell Moyle who was President of the Medical Board in Bombay. His second son, Col Charles Augustus Moyle married Laura Stopford Simpson in 1848 in India and they had 5 daughters (as far as I can make out). Alice Laura Moyle married my GG Grandfather Charles Toler Burke in India in 1873. I have photos of Col Moyle sitting with my G grandfather (as a child) in India. What puzzles me is the reference to Australia - always thought that they returned to England. As it happens Col Moyle died in Bombay in 1877. Could the John Grenfell Moyle (born 1820 i believe) who ended up in Australia be the eldest son who married a Bessie Ross in 1844. Having said that I cannot find much out about John Grenfell Moyle Snr. I have contacted the National Army Museum in Chelsea London and they have confirmed Col Moyle for me and that his father John Grenfell Moyle was a fellow of Royal College of Surgeons and member of board of Bombay. They also told me that the family came from the village of Bake in Cornwall.
I also found your entry of marriage of Lydia La Messurier (daughter of GJ Moyle and Eliza A Moyle) to William G McClure in 1854. This brings something else interesting up. I found the entry of a birth of Lydia La Messurier in records of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, 1836 to "John Grenfell Moyle, prsident of the Medical Board Bombay" What was he doing in South Africa unless he stopped off there on a boat to have the baby? I know that the boats to India used to go round the Cape, or perhaps he was stationed there for a while. It seems that these two had quite a number of kids, I've found nine references to children with one infant death, Granville Moyle b 1833, died 1834.

Would be grateful for any input.

Kind regards
Jackie

Hi there Louis.
I have info on a John Grenfell Moyle and Eliza Augusta Moyle (born Eliza Augusta Guilland). He was a surgeon in Bombay and ended up as President of the Medical Board, Bombay. From records he had quite a few children -
John Grenfell Moyle - born 1820
Charles Augustus Moyle - born 1821
Henry Richard Connel Moyle - born 1823 ?? married 1846
Twin daughters - born Nov 1830
Augusta Emily Moyle - born 1832
Charles Augustus Moyle ended up as Colonel of British regiment in India 1868. He died in 1877 in Bombay. His memoirs are held in the National Army Museum, Chelsea, London.
He married Laura Stopford Simpson in 1848 and they had 5 daughters, one of whom, Alice Laura Moyle, married my GG Grandfather Charles Toler Burke.
I cannot find much on John Grenfell Moyle except that if you go to the FIBIS (families in British India) you will find reference to him. How he might have ended up in Australia, not sure, and if he did. There is an entry of a birth of a son, Granville Moyle in 1833, but also his death as an infant a year later in 1834.

I would be interested to know if you come up with anything

Kind regards
Jackie

Hi Sioux,
The Charles Moyle who married Annie Fennesy is also on my tree, and is my great-great-uncle.
I have him recorded as Charles Rule Moyle b.16.04.1884 in Adelaide, South Australia.
He died 04.08.1952 in Adelaide, South Australia.
Charles Rule Moyle married Annie Fennesy 16.03.1919 London, England.
Annie was b.abt 1892 (? Ireland)
She died 09.03.1960 in Magill, South Australia.
I believe they had 6 children.
Edward J Moyle b.1919 London, England
Annie Thelma Moyle b.15.09.1920 at Rose Park, South Australia. and she married Charles Shugg.
The other children were Nancy, John Margaret and Charles.
Apparently Margaret married James Dick.

I haven't found any other information yet, but will keep looking and pass on whatever I discover.

Charles Rule Moyle was the 10th and youngest of Stephen Moyle and Elizabeth Jane Rule.
I haven't found any information about Anne Fennesy.

Please let me know if this email arrives and if any of my information matches what you have.
Regards,
Trevor Brown (Adelaide, South Australia)
Moyle

I've hit a snag... I've been trying to do some research on the last name Moyle but never seem to be able to find anything. My great-grandmother's maiden name was Moyle and can't seem to find anything on her father Fred Moyle.

Fred Moyle was born around 1875 in Pennsylvania and married Bessie Addley born around 1884 in Pennsylvania. I believe it is possible that his fathers name was William Henry and his mothers name was Loody or that is what she went by. If that is them they would have come to the states between 1865-1875 because the one and only census record I found had a Fred Moyle with 3 older siblings born in England and a younger sister also born in Pennsylvania.

If anyone has any possible idea who this is please let me know so that I could go back further and solve the mystery to who Fred Moyle was. Thanks.
