Zarnay is the surname of my first husband. His family lives in New York and New Jersey. Since we had three children, I have done some research on this line. His grandfather, Frank Zarnay, came to the USA in about 1920.

Mroch Ferdinand Caroline Alwine Hermine Rudolph

I have been searching for Alwine/Alvine/Alvina Mroch my great grandmother for many years. I may have found her, but need more information. Alwine was 10 months of age upon arriving according to http://www.immigrantships.net/v8/1800v8/jupitor18671203.html
and the 1880 census confirms this. My only other information about Alwine is oral history and a death certificate that shows my great grandmother as dying in 1902 at age 29. The Alwine I have found would have been 35 in 1902, but I would not necessarily rule her out as being the Alwine Mroch who married my great grandfather, Samuel Lachmann. I am hoping someone with more knowledge of the Mroch family can help me solve this, even if it turns out to be the wrong person.

Below is some more data I have found which may help identify Alwine.

I found the five Mrochs listed in the Subject at the Castle Garden website. http://www.castlegarden.org/quick_search_result.php?p_first_...
They arrived from Germany on 3 Dec 1867 via the Jupiter.

At HeritageQuest I found a census listing for 1900 showing Ferdinand and Caroline living in Detroit, MI.

Now I have found the family in the 1880 Census with five children Alvina (Alwine)13, Albert 10, Bertha 7, William 4, and Anna 1. Both census records show them living on Watson Street in Detroit.

So in the 20 years from 1880 to 1900 Ferdinand and Caroline became "empty nesters" it would appear. My great grandparents Samuel and Alvine lived in Chicago, IL so if this is "my" Alvine, they would have had to meet and marry sometime after 20 Feb 1891, which is when my great grandfather immigrated and settled in Chicago.

All comments and clues welcome!

Kenneth Browne researching:
BROWN(E) LEIGHTON TAYLOR CLUFF
LACHMANN RUSSELL MORSE PETTENGILL
NOBLE SMALL WOLF MROCH LUEDTKE
Mros

My husbands great grandmother was Agatha (Matya)Mros who was married to Joseph or Andrew Mros. They had 3 children Sophie and possible John and Stanley. They called Sophie Sally. I believe Sophie was born in Portchester, NY. However, a 1920 census has her living in Bayonne, NJ in Hudson county. A John K. was a boarder living with them. Apparenty Sophie had a cousin named John Klubeck and that may have been the boarder. She also had a cousin Caroline Klubeck. Both Joseph and Agatha were born in Poland and the census gives their immigration dates as 1905- and 1912 for John K. Joseph Mros has a listed job in the Boatworks industry. Sophie Mros married Stephen Pankowitz from Bayonne, NJ.

I don't know when they came to the U.S. They had 4 children: Helen (my mom), Stanley, Veronica, and Dorothy. Only Dorothy is still alive. This branch of the family came from the Myszyniec/Lomza area of Poland, perhaps a village called Niedzwiedz. Either they or the Kaminski's are related to Samsel and Maciora families.
Would John and Julia have been living in Otis, Coolspring Township, LaPorte County, Indiana in 1920 with their son, George? I was hoping that Julia might have been born a Witte or a Groehler, but if they are your John and Julia, it seems I may have to continue looking for my Novatskis or Nowatzkes.
Regards

My family is Mruz, but I believe our lead descendent emigrated to US in 1909 to Ellis Island: Josef Mroz.

Q1: Does anyone know where Tarnueva, Russia is? Since he came here in 1909, I suspect that it is one of the Russian controlled Polish regions, but I can't find it on 1910 maps.

Q2: Does anyone have information on Mroz's/Mruz's in West Virginia around 1920. I located Joseph (note name spelling change) in the 1930 census; said his kids were born in West Virginia between 1916-1924. But they do not show up on the 1920 Census. help?
Hello Sharon! I am looking for information about my sister-in-law's family, the Mroz family of Worcester, Massachusetts. The family lived in Worcester from the early 1900s through the 1990s. The parents were Philip J. and Victoria Pekala; their children were Betty, Helen, Steve, John, Joseph, Chester, Genevieve who married Robert Gaboury, and Laura. I believe all of Philip and Victoria's children have passed away. I would appreciate any information that you could share with me. Thank you ever so much. Ruth Gaboury

His great grandfather was Andrew Mroz, and he married Mary Durda (both of Poland) and they came to the United States together and settled in Pittsburgh, PA (Hazelwood section) somewhere between 1915 and 1925. They had the following children:

Stanley Mroz (diseased)
2. Mike Mroz (diseased)
3. Edward Mroz (diseased)
4. Emil Mroz - my son's grandfather
5. Cecila Mroz-Trena (diseased)

Emil Mroz married Pauline Kevan in 1955 and they had the following children:

Lance - my son's father
Cheryl (Bausch)
Donald
Christopher (diseased)
Gregory

Lance married myself (Linda Maund-Lammie) and we had one son: Lance Emil Mroz Jr.

If you would have any information to help us go back father with either the Mroz OR the Durda surnames - it would be most appreciated

Jan had a brother Jakub. Jan and Viktoria's 8 children were Anna, Wladyslaw, Jozef, Kazimerz, Edward, Antoni (my grandfather), Aniela, and Honorata. It looks like there was a 9th sibling..."?zmarto w dziecin..."and the rest of the word becomes nearly illegible dziecinstlsip. Antoni and all of his children are gone now. Trying to reconstruct. Looks like Anna Ginalski, Edward, and Honorata emigrated. Honorata married Francyszek Nowak with children Emilia and Edward. I think I have some information too on Anna Ginalski Mroz's children.
Thank you for the information on Catherine Mroz. My grandmother is Laura (nee Potoczak) Cefali. If you have any additional information regarding Potoczak or Cefali or wish to give me additional information so I can expand and add to the family tree that I am compiling it would be much appreciated. You can reach me at lisaweirich@msn.com.

I am interested in information on Jakub Mroz born in Poland circa 1850-60. He would be the half brother of Joseph Trznadel. Their mother would be Anna Gonia, and Joseph's father was Lawrence Trznadel.Jakub came to America in 1943 for Joseph's funeral, but it is unknown if he stayed or returned to Poland.
