I am looking for any information on an Augusta K Mueller (b. Sept 10, 1854 in Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany. d. Mar 30, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio).
She married August Osterland (son of Charles Osterland and Georgine Maria Lehman?) on Oct 17th, 1878.
I believe her father was named Frederick Muller/Mueller/Miller and I do not have her mother's first name but believe her last name to be Strowich.
Is it said that Augusta came to the US at the age of 9 from Mecklenburg, prior to that she lived in Wittenberg. She was raised Lutheran.

Any info on her father or mother would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Karoline Mueller

My Christian Miller had the middle name of Gottlieb. On his application for US citizenship it states that he was born on June 14, 1863 and arrived in NY in 1864. His "address" is listed as Westchester, NY and the date on the application is October 24, 1889. Also, though his name is Miller on both the census and the application for naturalization, on his grave stone in the Bronx, NY, is the name Muller. Also, my father always said the family name was Mueller. The witness to his naturalization is Peter Rebholz, a policeman, who was my g-grandfather. Christopher Miller/Muller's sister was Catherine (my g-grandmother) and the other members of the family were as follows:
CHRISTIAN MILLER, 38, BORN 1832
CHRISTINA MILLER, 30, BORN 1840
CATHERINE MILLER, 14, BORN 1856
CHRISTINE MILLER, 11, BORN 1859
MATILDA MILLER, AGE 3, BORN 1867
CUDLIPP* MILLER, AGE 8, BORN 1862

*CUDDLIPP IS A NAME USED FOR GOTTLIEB.
ACTUALLY, HIS NAME WAS CHRISTIAN GOTTLIEB.
"My" Christian Mueller/Miller lived in NJ. I am new at this, but I think I have the right census documents for him. The document for his immigration date is a little iffy to me, only because I have no cross-reference. It is interesting that all of the census documents are "Miller," but my Dad still refers to them as "Muellers." Hope this helps!

I happened across your post completely by accident, and I'm afraid I don't have information on Mr. Mueller, although I remember that Renie Usher was with him in 1955. However, I have long wondered what ever happened to Renie and her infant son, as she was a neighbour and friend during earlier years. If you happen to know this, would appreciate a note. Thank you, and I wish you luck in your quest for information on Mr. Mueller.

William MUELLER and Laura BREWER, Watertown and Milford, Jefferson Co., WI

I am looking for ANY information on William MUELLER and Laura BREWER of Watertown and Milford (respectively), Jefferson Co., WI. Laura BREWER b. 1834 in Highgate, VT, moved to Milford, WI in 1854 with her family, Jacob and Jerusha (WESTOVER) BREWER and siblings. Laura married William Mueller of Watertown, Sep 23, 1858 in Milford, Jefferson, WI. It seems William MUELLER died in 1864 in San Martin Ranche, TX, during the Civil War. It is possible Laura (BREWER) MUELLER moved with family to Floyd Co., IA in 1868. Little is known of this couple beyond what I have shared. William MUELLER is a complete mystery; when and where he was born, and who his parents were, etc. Did they have children? Did Laura remarry? Looking for any information on William's family and any possible descendants of this couple.

I am thinking about writing to NARA for pension files, but if I understand correctly, it is costly to get copies of these files, and I am not sure I even have the correct William MUELLER, as there is more than one.

Any help is appreciated, or if you are familiar with these family lines I would like to hear from you.

Karen
gensrchr14

Did you ever find a copy of that report? I'm looking for it now, since Jacob Mueller was my g-g-g-g grandfather!

If you have found it, please let me know where I can get a copy, or perhaps we can talk on the phone and I can get a sense of what's in that report (919) 932-6965.

Myron Miller
myron.miller@mindspring.com

Louis Frederick Miller AKA Lewis or Ludwig Fredrick Mueller born April 1827 in Ellrich Saxe Prussia, died Hyrum Utah

Mysteries surrounding Louis Frederick Miller
Looking for any info that may clear up family history mysteries. My 3rd-great grandfather is Louis Frederick Miller AKA Lewis/Ludwig Mueller, born in Ellrich, Nordhausen, Harz, Saxe, Prussia (Germany) on April 24, 1827. He married Sarah Ann Haigh Standley in October 1859 in Bountiful Utah.
Most of the mysteries come from the attached text of an old newspaper article (only the pertinent section is shown below).

Mystery 1: What happened to his father and brother? Did he really have a younger brother named Frederick Louis Miller? No other records give any dates for this child. There is a Frederick Mueller, age 22, from Prussia, Germany listed on the US Army Enlistment Rolls, registered (on the document I have) January 19, 1849 at Newport (no state given) by Capt. McRae, apparently enlisted at Ft. Moultrie South Carolina, 3rd Infantry Regiment, Company D. Discharged 22 January 1854 (possibly engaged in the War with Mexico?). Is this his brother? With a common name like Mueller it’s hard to say, and I’m not sure the dates would work.
Mystery 2: When, from where and to where did the family emigrate? Where did they settle after emigration? I found Louis with his wife Sarah in the 1900 USA Census, when he lived in Hyrum Utah. This census indicates he had emigrated to the USA in 1832, when he would have been about 5 years old. As a young man he apparently worked as a cook on a steamboat on the Mississippi River, and one of his first two wives was buried in St. Louis Missouri, so I'm guessing New Orleans would be a likely spot for his family to have arrived. But where should I look for such emigration records?
Mystery 3: Was he really in the Civil War? Could it have been some other war, or was he not in any war? The article indicates he was a drummer in the Civil War. How could Louis have been involved in the Civil War, if he was married and living in Utah during the years 1861-1865? Utah was not involved in the Civil War, as far as I know. Certainly Louis was too old to likely be a military drummer during that time.

Mystery 4: Other records indicate he had three older sisters, two of whom died in Germany as children. The one for whom I do not have a death date was named Friederike Phillipine Mueller, born 22 Nov 1825. If the family did indeed emigrate in 1832, she would have been about 7 years old. Did she come to America, too? What happened to her?
Mystery 5: Where did Louis meet and marry his first two wives, Jane and Jessie? Both apparently died before he came to Utah. One (don’t know which) is supposedly buried in St. Louis Missouri. Without a birthdate, and with a common last name like Miller, how can I find more information on that? Where is the other buried? Who were their families?
Mystery 6: My records indicate he was baptized into the LDS church in October 1855. Where did this happen, and who baptized him?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
Here is the text of the article:
MILLER FAMILY HISTORY (Published in The Herald Journal, Monday, February 26, 1968. Logan, Cache County, Utah) by Constance Nielsen

"Louis Frederick Miller was born April 24, 1827, Saxe County, Prussia, the son of Frederick Ludvig Miller and Sophia Dorthea Spangersburg (My note: this should read Sophia Dorothea Spangenberg). He had a younger brother named Frederick Louis Miller. When they were young they started for America and the mother died while they were on the ocean and was buried in the sea, leaving the father and the two young boys to finish the journey to America alone. When the Civil War broke out, the father left the younger boy with some friends and went to war. The older boy went with the army as a drummer. They never heard from the younger boy again.

After the war was over, Louis cooked on the steam ship that traveled on the Mississippi River. He married twice while in the East. Little is known of these marriages except that one of the wives was buried in St. Louis, Missouri. Their names were Jane and Jessie. The other one died also. He came to Utah about 1859."
