Another Mulhall family mystery!
My Great-great Grandmother was named Mary Mulhall. The story I heard from my great aunt before she passed away was that a very young Mary came to America from Ireland and entered an convent in New Orleans. Then, the story gets interesting. She meets a much older ( an apparently already married) Frenchman named John Bernard Valle. They elope, move to New Haven, Franklin Cty, Missouri where they grow grapes from seeds he brought from France. I have found some land records from New Haven for a John B and Mary Vallee. Also, I have a family bible with the dates of the birth of their 2 children, John Thomas Vallee ( my G-Grandfather), Brn 3-10-1865 in New Haven.
Story says during the Civil War, troops burned them out..John B. returned to France where he died. No records of what happened to Mary. Some say she had a brother named Thomas who lived on a farm in Iowa and that she went there. Does this ring a bell for anyone??? I'd sure like to know. Thanks!
