Thanks so much. This is indeed the family I am looking for! Mary Enzlie Davis was my grandmother's half sister and the photo album I have has several pictures of family members! Now it comes together.

I am still working on trying to find more info on her parents. Know that Joseph Davis is her father from his probate record. But still unclear about her mother - Mary Duling is a suggested name but no real documentation that I've seen so far.
Any information along that line?

My wife's line states that they are of German heritage, go figure. Samuel Hayes was born 2 Oct 1893 in Texas, if i have your grandfater right. I don't know when died. Your great grandfaters name is Wilmouth Jefferson Mulkey born 6 Mar 1868, in GA. He died 17 Apr 1944, in Levelland, Texas. His wife is Olivia Camilla Little and she was born 16 Jun 1873, in Alabama and died 3 Dec 1932, in Levelland as well. They were married 27 Jul 1892. I have no record of your father, but I did have a record of a female child being born 16 May 1921, in Decatur, TX. Hope this helps. ken Armstrong

Would you happen to have a Nancy Mulkey or Mulky born circa 1824 in Kentucky (according to 1850 Census Records)married William Kidwell circa 1840. They had 4 children known of: Francis M. male born cir 1841; Elizabeth cir 1843; Victoria cir 1845; Mary cir 1847. This family lived in Giles Co., Tennessee. Nancy appears in the 1850 Giles Co., TN. census with the four children. William is not listed. I have never found Nancy or Elizabeth and Francis M. after 1850, but do have records on Mary and Victoria. I have never found William Kidwell in any census.

I am not quite sure that Mulkey or Mulky was the maiden name of Nancy. On her daughter's (Mary) death record, her father is listed as William Kidwell and mother is listed as Nancy ---her last name is so written that it is so hard to tell what it really says. But so far, the best we can come up with is Mulkey or Mulky or even possibly Muncy/Muncey--but really looks more like Mulkey.

If you have any of these names in your records, please let me know.

Judy Sanders

Hello:

I have tested the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of a direct female line descendant of Nancy Mulkey. mtDNA is paseed from a mother to all her children but is only passed on by the daughters. The person tested was a male and his mtDNA was in haplogroup T, a European haplogroup. While we need to test another mtDNA descendant of Nancy Mulkey to be sure this is correct, at this time the genetic results show that Nancy Mulkey's female ancestry was European, not Cherokee. It is still possible that she was part Cherokee from her father or one of her other ancestors, but not through her mother.

Regards,

Steven C. Perkins
Descendant of Nancy Mulkey Smith through her dau Jemima Smith who married Nimrod Shepard.
I have a late 1800's photo of Lucy, Katie and Sadie Mulkey - the daughters of Mary Mulkey. I don't know if T H Mulkey is closely related to them or what but his name and location are stamped on the back of the picture I believe the mother, Mary Mulkey, was the daughter of Joseph and Ruth Davis and married in Kansas.
Anyone have any information about T H Mulkey Photographer or Mary Mulkey and her daughters?

Re: Mulkey, Francis, Frank and son Robert Louis

There is some confusion as to Robert Louis and Robert Lee. You have Robert Louis as the son of Francis Marion, I found him in my file listed as Franklin M. born 24 Sep 1843, in Habersam,Georgia. I have Franklin married to Cynthia White, on 29 Nov 1884. The 1900 Census list him as Frank. Frank and cynthia also have another son Lewis F. born 1886, Jun.
Robert Lee, born abt 1872 to George F. Mulkey and Catherine Evans. That is where the problem lies. I have 7 children listed for Robert and Dallas; Floyd 1909, Ella lucile abt 1911, B.D. 1913, Orval 1915, Raby E. 1916, Roy 1917 and John Franklin born 21 Aug 1919.

So, am I close to the right info or do I have it confused as well?

Jean Sharp still post on the Genforum Post, you should be able to get in touch again with her there.

Ken Armstrong

MY FATHER'S MOTHER (EVA) WAS JESSIE'S DAUGHTER. GEORGIA AND LEWIS HAD SEVERAL CHILDREN. LEVI WAS THEIR BROTHER AND SO WAS JOHN C MULKEY. I AM IN REGULAR CONTACT WITH ONE OF JOHN'S SON'S. DO YOU KNOW THE STORY ABOUT HOW HURSTON PRINCE (MARRIED TO EVA CONWAY) WAS KILLED? LEVI WAS A PART OF THAT STORY IN A RELEVANT WAY. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY GOT INFO, GREAT, IF NOT JUST ASK.
Dale,
I would love any other info. that you have on Ludie and her family. She would have been my husband's great-grandmother.
His grandfather was Lewis son of Henry Oliver Cofield, and unfortunately he didn't see him that much growing up, and doesn't know much about his family history.
My husband is Jeff Cofield, his father is Dwight, Lewis' only son, and they both live in Texas.
Lewis passed away 11-21-1999 in Corsicana,Texas.
I felt blessed to recieve your response to my post, I haven't worked on any geneology in several yrs now - you reignited that spark to get active again! :) Thank You!

Seeking origin, descendents of William Mulcahey (or Mulkey) who first appears in 1860 McDonough Co, IL Census at age 21 in the Twohy household. Think this may be same William MUCAHY who married Ellen HICKEY 29 Oct 1887 but gave age as 35, then appears in 1880 McDonough Census as Wm. MULKI, saloonkeeper, age 38 with wife Ellen. Does anyone know if he had first wife, Mary Ann COCKERHAM?

John MULKEY Savage b. 1807 Barren Co, KY
Hoping that someone will know what the relationship was of John Mulkey Savage b. 1807 Barren Co, KY to the famed early minister of that area, John Mulkey. I have a small collection of marriage entries that begin in 1799-1814, performed by John Mulkey and come from the book, "The History of Monroe County, Kentucky 1820-1988" that was compiled by Dayton Birdwell. I only recently became aware of John Mulkey Savage after obtaining a copy of "Savage Roots and Branches" by Beatrice Nicoll Savage. She died in 1996 but had completed her final draft. Her son, William, took over and got it into print in 1997 as a fitting tribute to her years of labor on the Savage family. There obviously is a connection between the two Johns. I'd like to think that one of John Mulkey's daughters married a Savage and that's where John Mulkey Savage came from

John Mulkey shot and killed Dennis Lawson

Appears in "The Ravia Herald" 12 December 1908,, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma

DENNIS LAWSON KILLED

In the early hours of last Friday morning, at Mulkey, just over in Carter County, John Mulkey, a prominent citizen of that town, shot and killed his friend and guest, Dennis Lawson, whose home was at or near Mill Creek. It seems that Lawson was in Carter County buying cattle and went to Mulkey’s farm to look at some cattle. Mrs. Mulkey was away from home. Mulkey invited Lawson to spend the night with him. They got two neighbors, some boot-let whiskey and were drinking and shooting crops when a quarrel arose. Lawson left the room and went into the yard. Mulkey followed and emptied both barrels of a shot fun into Lawson, without uttering a word of warning or why he did it, was Lawson’s dying statement.

Mulkey claims that Lawson was advancing on him with a knife and trying to cut him. The shooting took place about one o’clock in the morning and Lawson died that evening. His remains were carried to Troy for burial. Mulkey is in jail awaiting the action of the Carter County grand jury, which is now in session. Thus is added two more victims as the result of boot-leg whiskey.
Dave, I have been searching for information on Felix Mulkey b @1820. There are quite a number of Mulkey's and I'm sure you have some valuable resources. You might consider donating it to the St Louis Missouri Genealogical Society - housed in the St Louis County Public Library. They have one of the largest collections of material in the country. You could contact the special collections department at (314) 994-3300 or scollections@slcl.org to inquire.
