Cousin,

I just stumbled across your post on Ancestry. I found it very interesting, although I'm afraid I'm not going to be of much help to you. I'm the son of Kathleen Simon, daughter of the nefarious Lawrence Mowray (aka Vaughn Mullenix). As a child, I spend almost every weekend visiting with Aunt Fat Toes (Felta). On occasion, we'd drive out to visit Uncle Bud in Hagerstown. (yes, they were actually my great aunt & uncle, but we never bothered with that.

Mom is still around, although her brothers have passed on. She's never spoken much of her ancestors beyond her parenats (who died when I was young.) I'm interested to hear any more information you could provide.

I can't find any evidence, but I'm thinking maybe he was killed in the Civil War. Anybody know anything about this man or his family? Their parents were John C. and Susanna (Knable) Mullenix. I can't trace John any further, but Susanna's Knable family can be traced.

Asher was born 7/14/1863 in IL & died 2/18/1942 in L. A. Co., CA. Mary was probably the daughter of William W. Alford (1830-1899) & Hannah P.

I am interested in contacting descendants of John Henry Mullenix b. 1843 Wayne County, IN, son of Henry and Elizabeth (Cox) MULLENIX. John moved with his family to Sauk County, WI and from there to Faulk Co, SD. He married either in WI or SD, Mary Ann SMALL (prob dau of Josiah and Sara SMALL. They had two children: Anna bc 1886 SD and Joseph Vard bc 1888. I next pick up this family in the 1910 Paonia, Delta Co., CO census. John Henry is deceased and Mary Ann MULLENIX widow is living next door to her neice, Maggie May (Davisson) ESTEY. Next door to the ESTEYs is I believe Mary Ann SMALL's parents, Josiah B. and Sara SMALL about 85 years old living with an unmarried daughter Ollive SMALL.

In 1920, all are absent from Paonia except Mary Ann MULLENIX who is living with her grandson, Eugene A. HOLYBEE b. 1904. It is believed that dau Anna m. ?? HOLYBEE and that he is deceased in 1920. Anna shows up in the LDS Family Search as Anna Mullenix Holybee m. James Edgar ROMAN.

Henry Mullenix b. 26 MAY 1800 NC

Well, yes, my original impression was that Henry was the son of Greenbury Mullenix and Christiana Morgan. One puzzle is that he was married 12 AUG 1819 in Montgomery County, OH and lived thereafter from 1820 on in Wayne County, IN near Economy. He was married about the same time in Ohio as several Mullenix girls who were Greenbury's sisters, daughters of Jonathan Mullenix m. Susanna Greenbury. This coupled with the fact that he did not live near Greenbury and Christiana eventually led me to conclude that he probably was the Henry shown as the son of Jonathan and Susanna (Greenbury) Mullenix. I don't have actual backup for this line of reasoning yet. I understand that Greenbury left a will and I would suppose that Henry would have been mentioned in it and perhaps probate records would have recorded where he was living at the time. This is going to be my next line of investigation.

Thanks for the information on Greenbury's will. Can anyone shed some light on the parents of Henry Mullenix b 26 MAY 1800 NC? He was apparently bound out to Preacher Cox (father of his wife) and they moved to Montgomery County, OH where he married Elizabeth Cox 12 AUG 1819. They then moved to Wayne County, IN and are found in the 1830 census there. I don't have them yet for the 1820 census.

Can anyone help me fit Henry into the Mullenix family?

Sarah Mullenix, wife of William Beard lived in Wayne County, IN. for awhile and it appears that children of Jonathan and Mary (Sumney) Mullenix married in Montgomery County, OH about the same time that Henry maried Elizabeth Cox. Daughter, Nacky, married Eli Cortner appears to have been in Wayne County, IN around 1830.

Newark Advocate
Jan. 18, 1912

Emmett Burch Mullenix, the well known B.& O.S.W. brakeman who was seriously scalded in the head on collision at Orient, a short distance west of Columbus, on Friday of last week, died at the Protestant Hospital, Columbus, at 9:35 o'clock Wednesday night.
At the time of the accident when young Mullenix was taken from the engine after having been nearly scalded to death, his clothing was soaked with water, which had already commenced to freeze. One of the brakeman on the train, with true heroism, exchanged his dry clothes for those of the injured man, who was rushed to the hospital in Columbus. Here the physicians made an examination of his injuries, but held litle hope of his recovery.
The body was brought to Newark Thursday and taken to the undertaking rooms of Criss Bros. & Jones, where it was prepared for interment after which it was taken to the family home on North Stanbery St.
The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mullenix, 268 North Stanberry St. He was born in Highland county 21 years ago, but moved with the family to Newark about seven years ago and had made this city his home ever since.
About two years ago he took service with the B. & O.R.R. Co. at this point as a brakeman, but after working six months was transferred to the B. & O.S.W. road running out of this city. He is survived by his parents and one brother, Hysel, and three sisters, Margaret, Lillian and Roma.
At this time it is not known when the funeral services will be held.

There are at least three branches of the Molyeaux (Mullenix-Mullenax-Mullinax-Mullennix) just to name a few the first entry into the USA is in 1635 (pearson) in N.Y in 1724 in MD in 1724. In 1652 Sir Richard Mullenix entered MD with his wife, children and 17 slaves from Jamaica. He returned again in 1654 and there is no record he ever left. He was the chief Tax collector in Ireland in 1615 and was rewarded with the land in Jamaica. The are lots of records of our family in the Libraries. Here in Sacramento I have found at least 40 most is the Southern states.

contact me at jon_eaux@yahoo.com

Mullinex/Mullenix/Mullinax/...married Runyan in Sumner Co., KS.
Our distant cousin, Lucretia Victoria Runyan married David D. Mullenix who was born in 1883 in Seymour, Iowa. He and his wife both died in Sumner Co., KS and are buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, South Haven, of that county.
They had a daughter, Fernette, who I have no information about....and a son, William "Bill" who was born in 1911 in South Haven, Sumner Co., KS. He died in 1984.
Bill had a son named Merle who went by the nickname, "Corky," according to my information. In the 1950's he worked at KWBB radio station in Wichita, Sedgewick County, KS....and last he was heard from, he was living in Florida.
If you have any information about this family, I would like to hear from you.
I do have one other lead.....Jospeh Mullenix/Mullenax and Abigail Phares had a son, Jacob Phares Mullenix born 1853 in WV.
He married Cynthia Phillips who was born in 1852 in Iowa.
Jacob died in 1907 in Hunnewell, Sumner Co., KS. I have found a source that lists 4 children for this couple:
Joseph, 1877
Augusta, 1881 who died in 1935 also in Hunnewell
Etta, 1884 born in Hunnewell and died in Oakland, CA. 1949.
Frank, 1886.
I live just a few miles from Hunnewell and South Haven, both in Sumner County, KS. These are both very small towns..no more than a few blocks wide and long and they are neighboring communities.
I think David should fit into this family line of Jacob.
What is the chance of two unrelated Mullenix families living in such small towns in the same timeframe? This is a very uncommon name, and I think they had to be related.
I am waiting to hear from someone with some kind of information about this family line.
Shirley Love
