Re: ANCESTERS

Maybe, but you need to give me a bit more info.

I have 3 white / Caucasian MUNS (MUN, MUNN, MUNNS, etc) sideline marriages off my ANDREWS / ANDERS lines that came mid 1800s from Georgia to Eastern Arkansas and settled in the counties west of Memphis in the Mississippi River Delta lands of Arkansas ...mainly Monroe County (towns of Brinkley and Clarendon) and St Francis County where Forrest City is located.

The reason I have been tracking them is because 3 ANDREWS / ANDERS sisters all born in GA 1830s and 1840s, married MUNS brothers around 1859, 1860 in Arkansas. One sister Parthenia had at least 3 marriages ..first to HOUSE, then HOLMAN, then COOPER (a line from Spartanburg,SC).

Andrew Jackson MUNNS, William MUNNS and Samuel Riley MUNS, all sons of James MUNS and wife Frances ...and there was another brother John V. MUNS ...I found him about 1900 in Carroll County AR. Samuel Riley married Henrietta Elizabeth ANDREWS, but he died Civil War.She married MARTIN, then COOPER and I have found only a will of her father Michael ANDREWS than names her as having married a COOPER.

These MUNS seem to be a line out of the Carolinas, that moved around through the south, going to KY and AL for sure where children were born before they came to AR.

James & Frances' son Andrew Jackson MUNS b about 1829 KY married Mary Catherine ANDREWS in AR and the kids I've had any luck at all tracking are maybe a son George (there were several George's that fit) that went to Memphis by 1900 / 1910, and a son Floyd that was born about 1864 who married I think a Sallie COBB. (see 1880 Monroe Co, Cache twp, Clarendon post office, Arkansas) They had at least 2 sons ...Jesse and Charles both born AR about 1898 timeframe.

I have found a WWI Draft Reg 1918 for Jesse James MUNS b 1897 Brinkley,AR ...and in 1918 he was married to a "Tommie" wife and living in Little Rock where he worked for the Post Office as a mail carrier. Can't find them in 1920. Perhaps he went off to war and died. Just don't know.

Could these various MUNS / MUNNS be related to yours that migrated up to Detroit area? I found quite a few MUNS in Arkansas that I think tie in with the line ...just no proof ...quite a few in Nevada County AR.

I do have some census information, etc. found in my research and loose probate records when William MUNS and wife Julia Ann ANDREWS, PULLEN, MUNS died of illness ...1861-1862 timeframe.

Did you check the Carroll county census for 1880 for either Joseph or Francis Muns. It's a long shot but Francis's son Samuel may be my paternal grandfather John Samuel Muns who was a broom maker in Corisicana, Navarro county, Texas in 1899. My father, John Aubrey Munns was born there Oct 13, 1899. John S Muns married Nancy Elizabeth (Lizzie) Adkisson in Conway, Arkansas This family had come from Arkansas near the Conway/Mt. Vernon area and eventually returned to that same area. The present day Carroll county is located in the northwest corner of the state and borders the Missouri state line.Macon county,MO is located in the north close to the Iowa border.

I've recently concluded that my great grandmother was Josephine Canses Muns. She was born in 1857, I don't know what state yet. She eventually married a James S. Caldwell in 1886. They had a few children and he died. She then married a John Russell Lewis in Navarro Co., Texas in 1896. She had one child named Clyde Lewis before she died in May of 1900 in also Navarro Co., Texas. This is all I know about her. I do not know anything about her siblings, parents, grandparents and etc. or where her family came from. If anyone has any of this info, I would appreciate your sending it to me.Thanks! GeoZay@aol.com
George Zay

Found: Handwritten Records 1871

Through my own family research of the Barrentine name, I have come across something that is confusing to say the least. My grandmother has in her possession, about 8 very tattered and torn pages from what appears to be a handwritten log. They are still attached to the spine of what was once a book. She says that she obtained these pages from a trunk once belonging to her grandfather, Joseph Edgar Barrentine. The dates on these pages are handwritten, beginning January, 1871. From what I've been able to piece together and what is legible, I have extracted the following information:

2 or 3 pages of a labor log detailing work done to build houses, work done in fields, to include time needed for work (1/2 day, 1 day, etc.) and what appears to be wages for that work.

A handwritten birth log, as follows:
Amos Washington was borned on the 21st day of April, 1838
Sarah Jane was borned on the 28th day of December, 1838
Alexander Lafayette was borned on the ? day of December, 1860
Timothy Hinton Barron was borned on the 11th day of May, 1862
Ellen Jane Barron was borned on the 6th day of April, 1865
Mary Lillio(a)n was borned on the 30th day of September, 1871

Sarah Jane died on the 19th day of May, 1873(83)-this number has been written over so it is hard to tell what is the original.

On another page there are the same names written along with the following names:
Ann May Barron
Letey Ann Nuns
Tiney and Thomas "Jab" Nuns
Bell Nuns
(These are handwritten as I have said and the last name "Nuns" may be a mistake in my reading of the notes.)
I have been able to locate one record to verify any of this information. I found it on an LDS search. It shows an Amos W. Barron married to a Sarah Jane Munn but there is no source identified. The birth years seem to match as well as the marriage date.

If anyone has any information that may help me identify these pages, please contact me at hspainter@hotmail.com or hollygordon@sbcglobal.net

Re: Elmer Muns d 1973 Waco, TX

Hello Debra,
I have some information that may interest you. In my records, I have your grandfather, Elmer Milton Muns listed. He has one known brother that I know of named George Franklin Muns. Their father was a Robert Newell Muns. He was born May 15, 1864 in Corsicana, Texas. I don't know who he was married to. The parents to Robert Newell Muns was a Thomas Austin Muns and Elizabeth Stewart. Thomas was born on March 15, 1830 in Tenn. and died Aug 5, 1896 in Corsicana, Texas. He married Elizabeth Stewart on Aug 7, 1852 in Henderson Co., Tenn. She was the daughter of John C. Stewart. Elizabeth Stewart was born on Jan 15, 1833 in Tenn and died Oct 27, 1901 in Corsicana, Texas. The parents of Thomas Austin Muns was a John Munns and Rutha Foster. John was born in 1801 in North Carolina and died in Tenn. He married Rutha Foster in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She was born in 1808 in Claiborne Co., Miss. and died in Tenn. I also have listed that the father of John Munns was Alexander William Munns, b. abt. 1776. In turn Alexander William Munns was the son of another Alexander Munns born in the early 1700's. That's about all I have for your direct lineage. I hope this helps.
George Zay
GeoZay@aol.com

Adelma,
I just read your message and am wondering my g-g-g-grandfather Joseph Muns, born ca 1808 -1813 is connected to your line. The first I found of him was the 1850 census for Coles County, IL. It lists his birth as 1808 OH. I also found him in the FHC files as born 1813 ENG. There was a Francis Muns living nearby in the Coles County census. One of Joseph's sons was named George Washington Muns. When I saw Francis and George Washington mentioned in your message, I thought there might be a connection. I would appreciate hearing from you. Lou Waggener

Adelma,
Joseph Muns was born in OH, married Eliza (Aines?), and first appeared in Coles County, IL when he purchased land in 1838. There was a Francis Muns living near him in the 1840 & 1850 census. Perhaps he was a brother. Joseph and his family left Coles County, IL in the 1850's and settled in Macon County, MO where they were listed in the 1860 & 1870 census. Their children were: Elizabeth, Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, Mahala, Margaret, Nancy & Amanda. In 1876 he bought land in Carroll County, AR.

Francis Muns' children were Hannah, Francis, Jeremiah, Mary, Jasper, Allen & Samuel. This family was not found in the 1860 Coles County, IL or the Macon County, MO census.

I have no idea who Joseph's father was and have not been able to trace him to South Carolina.
