Dear Sirs:

I am wondering if my ancestor Magdalena Baran (1820's?-18xx) from Siedliska, Poland (near Lubenia and Rszesow)is related to your family? All I know is that is that she was married to Franciszek Bida (1820's?-18xx). They had a child named Pawel (Paul) Bida or Bieda (1851-1920). Also, am wondering if my ancestor Zofil Baran (1790's?-18xx) from Siedliska, Poland (near Lubenia)is related to your family? All I know is that is that she was married to Jan Statkiewicz (1790's?-18xx). They had a child named Apolonia Statkiewicz (1820's?-18xx).

Can you help me find their parents names, dates, grandparents and also any other ancestors if there is a connection here with your family.

We would appreciate any help here!

Thanks,

Please keep in touch.

John Bieda
sbieda@aol.com

Thank you for your information in reply to my inquiry. I will keep that town in mind when searching further. I have no idea where they came from and can't find them on passenger lists. The 1900 census indicates that they came in 1879. I can't find anything earlier. Thanks. Grace

According to mom:
My Granfather's name was Joseph Murawski. He was married to Olga Pych and had a daughter Beatrice. Olga died soon after Bearice was born. Joseph's brother Boleslaw (William) Murawski married Stephania Karczmarczyk. Boleslaw died after his 5th or 6th child. There were other brothers and sisters that might have lived in Chicago but we know nothing else.
Joseph later married Stephania and had 5 more kids. All my aunts and uncles.
A connection maybe?

I am researching Murawski's in the Chicago area from 1879 through 1930. My Great grandfather was Jan Murawski, he married Mary Ann Baran in Europe. They had 5 boys, William, Frank, Joseph, Antoni and John. Also two girls, Stella and Mary. Stella was my Grandmother who married Clemens Bessa. They moved to Wisconsin in 1918 but the rest of the family stayed in Chicago. I have some death certificates of 3 of the boys and the girl but can't find any for Antoni. If this sounds like your family, I will be glad to share with you any information I have.
There are many documents to be found that will fill in the blanks you have. You just need to know where to get them. You might find the Basics of Polish Research page on the PolandGenWeb site a bit of a help:

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~polwgw/howto.html

When I look at the arrival manifest for Stanislaw Murawski, arriving on the SS Grosser Kurfurst on 2 May 1907, I too see "Gaji, Posen, Germany" for his last residence. His birthplace is different and looks like "Geafe or Gease, Posen."

I checked census records. Might these records belong to your Andrew, Michael, and Stanley:

1910 US Census
ED 24, sheet 10B, lines 98-100
Baltimore, Maryland
231 [street name illegible]

Morawski, Andrew M - head, 31 y/o, first marriage, married 3 years, born in Ger-Pol, imm 1890, naturalized citizen, occ: laborer at odd jobs
--------, Frances - wife, 26 y/o, first marriage, married 3 years, 1 of 1 children living, born in Ger-Germany, imm Unknown
--------, Lawrence - son, 1 y/o, born in Maryland

--

1910 US Census
ED 62, sheet 5A, lines 37-42
Ludington, Mason, Michigan
600 First Street

Murawski, Michael - head, 31 y/o, married 8 yrs (first marriage), born in Ger-Poland, immigrated 1894, naturalized citizen, occupation: laborer in Saw Mill
--------, Anastaia [sp.] - wife, 27? y/o, married 8 yrs (first marriage), 3 of 3 children living, born in Ger-Poland, imm 1891
--------, Mary - daughter, 6 y/o, born in Michigan
--------, Josephine - daughter, 4 y/o, born in Michigan
--------, Rose - daughter, 1 6/12 y/o, born in Michigan
--------, Stanley - boarder, 30 y/o, single, born in Ger-Poland, imm 1907, occupation: laborer in Lumber Yard

--

1920 US Census
ED 26, sheet 13A, lines 10-11
Baltimore, Maryland
231 South Washington St

Morawski, Andrew - head, divorced, 39 y/o, imm 1889, alien resident, born in Germany, speaks Polish, occ: laborer in machine shop
--------, Laurence - son, 12 y/o, born in Maryland

--

1920 US Census
ED 93, sheet 9A, lines 7-11
Ludington, Mason Co, Michigan
302 First St.

Murawski, Stanley - head, married, 37 y/o, immigrated 1901, filed "first papers" for citizenship, born in Germany, occupation: painter [business name too blurred to read]
--------, Ida - wife, married, 28 y/o, born in Michigan, parents born in Poland
--------, Angeline - daughter, 6 y/o, born in Michigan
--------, Selma - daughter, 3 2/12 y/o, born in Michigan
--------, Eliza - son [says son], 1 6/12 y/o, born in Michigan

--

1920 US Census
ED 93, sheets 9A&B, lines 50-
Ludington, Mason Co, Michigan
600 First St

Murawski, Michael - head, married, 41 y/o, immigrated 1898, naturalized 1904, born in Poland, occupation: [too blurred to read]
--------, Nettie - wife, married, 37 y/o, immigrated 1889, naturalized 1904, born in Poland
--------, Mary - daughter, 15 y/o, born in Michigan
--------, Josephine - daughter, 14 y/o, born in Michigan
--------, Rose - daughter, 11 y/o, born in Michigan
--------, Helen - daughter, 4 2/12 y/o, born in Michigan

--

1930 US Census
ED 7, sheet 9B, lines 51-56
Grand Rapids, Kent Co, Michigan
936 Myrtle St

Murawski, Michael - head, 51 y/o, married, first married at 23 y/o, born in Poland, immigrated 1895, naturalized citizen, occ: laborer at automobile factory
--------, Anastasia - wife, 47 y/o, married, first married at 19 y/o, born in Poland, imm 1890, naturalized citizen
--------, Rose M. - daughter, 21 y/o, single, born in Michigan, occ: office clerk at dry goods store
--------, Helen A. - daughter, 14 y/o, single, born in Michigan
Golczynski, Michael - father-in-law, 71 y/o, married, first married at 25 y/o, born in Poland, imm 1890, filed "first papers" for citizenship
Golczynski, Mary - mother-in-law, 70 y/o, married, first married at 24 y/o, born in Poland, imm 1890, alien resident

--

1930 US Census
ED 4, sheet 3B &4A, lines 96-100, 1
Ludington, Mason Co, Michigan
302 First Street

Murawski, Stanley - head, 48 y/o, married, first married at 31 y/o, born in Poland [Germany-Posen crossed out], imm 1910, filed "first papers" for citizenship, occ: section man for P.M Railroad [Steam written above Railroad]
--------, Ida - wife, 41 y/o, married, first married at 24 y/o, born in Michigan
--------, Anagline - daughter, 16 y/o, single, born in Michigan
--------, Selma - daughter, 13 y/o, single, born in Michigan
--------, Aloysius - son, 11 y/o, single, born in Michigan
--------, Eleaor - daughter, 7 y/o, single, born in Michigan

--

-MJ

Re: Andrew Murawski from Poznan, Poland

The only record we have for Michael Murawski is family information, what he told his children. Stanley or Stanislaus Murawski, I found his passenger record in Ellis Island records, it also says he lived Gaji,Posen,Poland...its difficult to read It also stated he was coming to live with his brother Michael and family in Ludington, Michigan. Now Andrew Murawski, we have no idea when he came, if before Stanley or after. He came once to Michigan to visit with the rest of the Murawski family, but went back to Baltimore to live. And one family member noted he had one son that went to St Paul, Minn. Its difficult to learn much information as most of the elders have passed, Iam working on this for my mother inlaw, whom is the last of her family. So not much paperwork Iam afraid, only the Ellis Island record for Stanley Murawski, and Michaels birth record stating his parents names. Michael came to the US at age 14, he was an indentured worker, and he worked for a farmer in Baltimore. He lived in Baltimore till he met his wife and then moved to Michigan.

Hi,

Don't know what info you've already found, since you didn't mention any resources, but here are a couple of WW1 draft registrations that could be your Andrew Murawski:

Baltimore City, Maryland
Andrew Morawski
address: 916 S Wolfest, Baltimore, MD
age: 36
DOB: June 13 1882
citizenship: alien born, non-delarant
POB: Posen, Poland
occupation: laborer at Bobington Pk Co, Howard County
nearest relative: Kate Morawski, 916 S Wolfest, Balt.
signature: made his mark [indicating illiterate] and clerk signed "Andrew Morawski"
height: medium 5'6"
build: medium
eyes: blue
hair: brown

--

Baltimore City, Maryland
Andrew Morawski
address: 1508 Bank St, Baltimore, MD
age: 38
DOB: January 22 1880
citizenship: alien born, delarant
POB: Germany
occupation: laborer at Wallace Sloffin/Hoffin, 598 Charles & Frombard?, Balto. MD
nearest relative: Lawrence Morawski (son), 1508 Bank St, Balt.
signature: Andrzej Morawski
height: medium
build: medium
eyes: blue
hair: brown

Keep in mind that surnames didn't have to be spelled the same way every time back then, and often clerks never asked how to spell them. So, when looking for the surname Murawski be sure to also look for Morawski and Marawski. Although I'm not researching this surname, it is one that appears in parish records where my ancestors lived in Poland (Russian partition), and those spellings were used interchangeably in the records. Also, when searching through American records, don't forget to substitute a V for the W, since in the Polish alphabet the W makes an English V sound. And when looking for passenger manifests, be sure to use the Polish or German given name they were born with, since the names and other info on manifests were written down prior to the ship sailing.

Andrew = Andrzej (Polish), Andreas (German)
Michael = Michał (Polish), Michael (German)
Joseph = Józef, Jósef (Polish), Josef, Joseph (German)
Stanley = Stanisław (Polish), Stanislaus (Latin), no real equivalent in German that I could find
Lucille = probably Lucja, Łucja, or Lucyna (Polish), probably Lucia (German) [but could have been another name as well, though, since there doesn't seem to be an exact equivalent in either language)

As an aside, was Andrew from the city of Poznań (Posen in German) or just from the province of the same name? What documents do you already have on your ancestors? Naturalization, passenger manifests, census, civil/church marriage, birth/baptism on their children, etc.?

-MJ

Searching for information on Andrew Murawski whom came over from Poznan, Poland aft 1907 to the US. Settled in Baltimore, Maryland. Originally his brother Michael Joseph Murawski came over at age 14, and lived in Baltimore until he married and went to Mason Co, Ludington, Mich. His brother Stanley{Stanislaus} came over in 1907 to join his brother in Michigan. Sometime after Stanley came, Andrew came over. Iam told he came up to Michigan once to visit Michael,Stanley and families, but elected to live in Baltimore, where he married and had family. Does this Andrew sound familar to anyone, his parents were Joseph Murawski & Lucille Kasjuba

I cant be sure, but lets do stay in touch. There maybe some connection here, we will just have to keep digging. Michael,Stanley & Andrew came from Gaji,Poznan,Poland. Now Iam not sure where Gaji is, working on that. But that could have just been a port they left from to I dont know yet. They did have two other brothers come over, but they stayed{as far as family knows}in Baltimore. But there was another brother & sister who elected to stay in Poland, they never came over. Stay in touch, I will update you as I find anything, perhaps we have a connection here!! Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,
Can't find any immigration records for him, nor for his son Edward who we know came in 1883 at 6 months old based on his obituary. Ellis Island records only go back to 1894?, but I'm assuming that the family came to Baltimore instead of NY. Story is that Martin came before the rest of his family probably late 1870's and worked on building the roads in Antigo, WI. I assume he went back at some point because some of his children were born in Poland before 1883. I have 1885 Wisconsin Census records showing Marls Miraski with 2 white males and 2 white females living in the home, Nativity: Germany.

Based on a record at the Langlade co. WI, Clerk, Martin's parents might be Albert and Victoria. Any connection?

Frank and Doris MURAWSKI vaudeville performers Texas

I am attempting to contact anyone who knows of Frank MURAWSKI (born 1894) and his wife Doris (nee RANDALL born c1900 England) who were vaudeville performers in the 1920’s USA. Frank I believe was a juggler and Doris performed in an all-women trick cycling act “The Girton Girls” run by her sister-in-law Edith along with her two daughters Doreen M. RANDALL (born c 1910 Massachusetts ) and Lily C. RANDALL (born c 1912 Illinios).

Doris was brought up in France with her brother Fred (I believe) who was a jockey and gambler. Sometime 1928-1930 Doris married Frank, they were living in McAllen, Texas in 1977 when Frank died.

My grandmother Louise MORRIS was also in the Girton Girls cycling act and I have several photographs and 16mm film of Doris which I would be happy to share. I am researching for a documentary film being made in New Zealand about my grandmother and would be keen for any information of possible descendants of Doris and Frank who may have different photographs or films than I possess.

Cheers

Grant Campbell

Murawskis from Gaji, Poland

Researching the Family of Stanley/Stanislaus Murawski, he came to the USA 1907 from Gaji, Poland. He went to his brother Michael Murawski already here in Mason Co, Michigan to live. Michael & Family they later moved to kent Co, Grand Rapids, mich. michael came over at age 3 yrs in 1883. Stanley at age 27yrs. Iam guess that Michael must have come with some family member?? We dont have any info on that. Stanley married and remained in Mason Co, Michigan. Is there any other Murawski Family that came from Gaji, would be interested to see if perhaps related. Lorraine

After Franciska died he married Rosalia Gryrskowiak in 08 Nov 1894 in Langlade Co., WI. Martin died on 25 Jul 1899 in Harrison township in Marathon co., WI. The children I have found so far are: Veronica b: 1881 d: 16 Aug 1895 due to scarlet fever; Edward b: 14 Feb 1883; John b: 10 Jun 1887; Lottin?? b: 1890; Mary b: 18 Jun 1892; and Elizabeth Eva b: 26 Jun 1894.

If anyone knows anything else on this family, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
Jessica (Muraski) VanHove
jvanhove@avci.net

Michael Murawski -- Poznan, Poland

Still looking for lost relatives of Michael J Murawski b:1879 Poznan,Poland Came to USA at age 14, as a indentured worker in Baltimore,Maryland. He married Anastasia Golczinski 1901, and they moved to Mason Co,Mich. Michaels brother Stanislaus came to USA 1907 and went to Mich also to live with Michael & family. There were 3 other brothers who came either before Stanley or after, but they remained in Baltimore,Maryland. One was named Andrew Ive been told. They were supposed to have come from Poznan,Poland and thier parents names were Joseph Murawski & Lucille Kasjuba. I was told Andrew had a son who went to live in St Paul,Minn. Any connections out there? Lorraine

Justin, are you still researching the Murawski name. Iam researching the Murawski name for my mother inlaw. Her parents were Stanislaus Murawski born in Poland 1879 and came here to the USA and lived in Mason Co, Ludington, Michigan. His wife Ida Krzyanowski was from Manistee Co, Michigan. Stanislaus came over a few years after his brother Michael Murawski. Michael lived in Mason Co, Ludington, Michigan until sometime after 1920s, where he moved his family to Kent Co, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Do you have these two gents in your family tree?
