Helllo Mary
I am not sure about your statement that David MURDOCH (in Dallsaloch, Auchinleck) is the son of William MURDOCH & Janet HAMPHIE.

Based upon the scant evidence in that they share the same headstone in the Auchinleck Kirkyard I believe the parents of David are Robert MURDOCH and Jean BRECKENRIG. The monumental inscription mention records 2 sons of this couple Ebenezer (died 1802) and John(died 1800)of whom I can find no mention in Auchinlcck Parish Registers

Alastair

I am looking for family of William Murdoch, born in Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He was born April 20, 1895. He emmigrated to Canada as a teenager and enlisted with the 48th Highlanders of Toronto. He died November 10th, 1917 in Belgium or France - probably at Passendaele with the 19th Battalion. His father was also William Murdoch and mother was Barbara Ann Cowan. His name is on the war memorial in Lochwinnoch as one who died in WW1 from that town.

1891 envelope to William B MURDOCH of San Francisco, California

I recently found a photo of an old envelope that William B MURDOCH of San Francisco, California received from Hackney, England in 1891. You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on MURDOCH, select the one with San Francisco, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. I want to determine if Hackney, England is the birthplace of William B MURDOCH and if this envelope is helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

Here is a direct link to the photo of the envelope:
http://www.philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=for...

Now then... this is very very late into this discussion, but I think I might have some info, and would welcome some help myself. My great Uncle is Archibald George Charles Forde Campbell-Murdoch (b 1911 in Casablanca). He was here for dinner last evening (5 July 2009) and in really excellent fettle. He is the son of Louis Forde C-M (b. 1871, d. of wounds in 1916 on the Somme). I believe Archie had a sister Betty (b. c. 1915).

Archie married my great-Aunt Sheila Freida Haigh. If you'd like a look at my tree, just let me know.

Could someone please do a lookup on Ancestry for Mary Murdoch especially on the 1841 census?
There are 2 for Mary born about 1801...one for Lancaster, England, the other Middsex, England.

I am trying to find who my Benjamin married in England. He was born in Nova Scotia about 1796. He must have gone back to England to marry. They had a James, about 1823, John about 1827 and a Jane born in 1833 in London. The boys show up the US 1850's census as ship carpenters in NY. I found Benjamin on the 1860 census in Michigan along with John as farmers. I think James stays in NY. Jane ends up in Nova Scotia and marries in 1850 there.

I am trying the name of Mary Stairs Murdoch because one of Jane's daughters was named Mary Stairs Harvie. James Murdoch named his daughter Mary J. Just a guess at this point!

Thanks,
Karen
I don't know where the Falconer name came from as there are no Falconers in their background that I ever found. I could not find a record of any William but it is strange that they are both Falconer Murdoch.

The Grindstone Island Historical society has put together a genealogy of the different families that have come through the Island. Their tree can be accessed at http://www.grindstoneisland.org/genealogy/index.html If I can help in any way, let me know!

Charles Luther Ferrell (Farrell) and family moved from Grey County Ontario to Gladwin Michigan sometime between 1861 and 1980. The only wife I am aware of is Nancy Jane Clow. They are buried in Gladwin. He was born in Ireland in 1823 and she in Elizabethtown, Leeds, Ontario in 1826. I have been in touch with Ferrell (U.S. spelling) relatives in Michigan and have obtained photo which includes Nancy Jane Farrell nee Clow, Susan Swanston nee Farrell and Nancy Jane Murdoch nee Swanston. The death cert. referred to in previous Email is obviously incorrect re Susan's mother.

If you google Descendants of Charles L Ferrell you will find a web site with scads of info. I can also provide some additional details.

Here is the web site with Ferrell data.

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/r/e/i/Sue-Reimund...

I don't have a marriage record but I found them in the 1851 Elizabethtown Township, Ontario, census along with Elizabeth and Susan, the two oldest children. According to the book A Cleft in the Rock (Descendants of Henry Clow & Rebekah Deforest) by the late Edgar Clow, Nancy Jane Clow's father Simon Clow bought land for them in Grey County, Ontario and from there Charles & Nancy and most of the children eventually emigrated to Michigan.

Sue Reimund is the only source for "Luther".

I have nothing on Charles' parents but Nancy's Deforest ancestors are traced back hundreds of years to France. Her Clow ancestors are traced back to the 1600s in Scotland.

If you let me know by direct Email how I can get in touch with you, I will be glad to phone for further discussion.

Agnes Murdoch & husband, Alexander Vallance, 1700s, Old Cumnock, Muirkirk, Ayrshire, Scotland

Alexander Vallance & Agnes Murdoch lived in the Parish of Old Cumnock, Ayrshire and the only children I have found so far are:
Marjory christened or born May 18, 1785
David
Agnes born about 1795 (both Parish of Old Cumnock).
Agnes Murdoch Vallence is on the 1841 census in Muirkirk and is probably a widow. She was probalby there because her daughter Agnes was living there, although, she could have moved there with her husband and children earlier.

Agnes, daughter of Alexander and Agnes, married John Gibson Muir Feb. 6, 1818 and they lived in Muirkirk and New Cumnock. She died March 27, 1863 at New Cumnock. Their children were:
John (1818)
Agnes (1820)
Janet (1823), married Hugh McLeod & lived Muirkirk & New Cumnock.
John Gibson Muir (1825) died in New Cumnock, never married.
Marion (1829)married Andrew Beattie
Margaret (1832) married a Park
Alexander (1834), married twice and lived New Cumnock.
Joseph (1837), died as a child.

I would like to have contact with descendants or with others researching these family names from Old Cumnock, Muirkirk and New Cumnock areas who can help me make contact with those who have more information about the family.

Please contact me directly at
jifjc@primus.ca
OR at
jif137@hotmail.com
OR by mail C/O Richard Finney, 33 St. Louis Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2M 3J4, Canada.
Janet Isobelle Finney

Margaret Murdoch(k) b. Co. Down, Ireland ~ 1786, m. Wm. Barr

Looking for Margaret and William's parents. Death certificates show they were born in Rathfriland, Co. Down in 1786 and 1783 respectively. Probably married in 1820-1821. Five children born in Ireland; Andrew 1822, William 1825, twins Isabelle and Mary Jane abt. 1826, Boyd 1827. William's Bible (the son b. 1825) says he was born near Belfast. The family left Ireland for America in 1831. Both daughters died and buried at sea. One granddaughter given middle name Odin -- perhaps a family name?

Any clues appreciated!

Vanette Hamilton
