Free Y-DNA Testing

FYI: Within the last few weeks, several of us have been using the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation database to determine which families are actually related. We have also found one family to not be related genetically to a patriarch long thought to be their ancestor.

Sorenson's offers a free Y-DNA test kit. All you have to do is order it and submit your pedigree. As it is free, Sorenson does not notify you of the results. They are easy to determine, however. All you have to do is go to the Sorenson Y-DNA Search page from time to time and type in your surname. After your test has been completed, they post it and add your pedigree under a tab on the left-most side of the page.

Once you find your pedigree, all you have to do is make note of the markers.

Do take the time to go to their site and read about what they are doing. Also, run a few queries. If you are like me, you will quickly request a free test kit.

Here is the website: www.smgf.org

Best Regards,

David Merrell
