MIRACULOUSLY CURED AT KNOCK.

A young man, Thomas Murphy of Liscannonane, parish of Lackagh, aged 23, was miraculously cured at Knock Church on Sunday last, the Feast of the Assumption of the B V M. At the age of 11 years he lost the use of one of his legs and had ever since been more or less in pain and obliged to carry crutches. This was his third visit to Knock. So infirm and feeble was he on Saturday last that his uncle, Brian Feeny, of Corbally, parish of Cummer, who accompanied him to carry him over the Railway Bridge at Tuam to the train for Claremorris en route for Knock. Next morning in the Church, at the Altar rails, after receiving the Most Holy Eucharist, he rose up perfectly cured, and leaving his crutches behind him, walked out through the congregation. We saw him here in Tuam on Monday.

(May 7, 1976 – June 28, 2005)

Citation

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as the leader of a special reconnaissance element with Naval Special Warfare Task Unit Afghanistan on 27 and 28 June 2005. While leading a mission to locate a high-level anti-coalition militia leader, Lieutenant Murphy demonstrated extraordinary heroism in the face of grave danger in the vicinity of Asadabad, Konar Province, Afghanistan. On 28 June 2005, operating in an extremely rugged enemy-controlled area, Lieutenant Murphy's team was discovered by anti-coalition militia sympathizers, who revealed their position to Taliban fighters. As a result, between 30 and 40 enemy fighters besieged his four-member team. Demonstrating exceptional resolve, Lieutenant Murphy valiantly led his men in engaging the large enemy force. The ensuing fierce firefight resulted in numerous enemy casualties, as well as the wounding of all four members of the team. Ignoring his own wounds and demonstrating exceptional composure, Lieutenant Murphy continued to lead and encourage his men. When the primary communicator fell mortally wounded, Lieutenant Murphy repeatedly attempted to call for assistance for his beleaguered teammates. Realizing the impossibility of communicating in the extreme terrain, and in the face of almost certain death, he fought his way into open terrain to gain a better position to transmit a call. This deliberate, heroic act deprived him of cover, exposing him to direct enemy fire. Finally achieving contact with his Headquarters, Lieutenant Murphy maintained his exposed position while he provided his location and requested immediate support for his team. In his final act of bravery, he continued to engage the enemy until he was mortally wounded, gallantly giving his life for his country and for the cause of freedom. By his selfless leadership, courageous actions, and extraordinary devotion to duty, Lieutenant Murphy reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Simon Murphy in Greene County Alabama

Seeking information on a Simon Murphy who was born abt 1789 in North Carolina and died in Greene County Alabama around 160. Simon's wife was Lucretia Walker who was born about 1789 in either Virgina or Carolina. She married Simon Murphy on 18 Nov. 1811 in Wake, North Carolina. They moved to Greene County Alabama some time in the 1820's and purchased land. In the 1850 census for Greene Co. Al. I found a Simon and Lucretia Murphey along with others who spelled their name Murphey. I guess that these are the same ones that I am referring to, but need more information.

I am also looking for two William Murphy's. One the son of Edward Murphy and Hanora Bresley. They lived for a long period of time in St. Thersa's parish I believe he married Mary McNichols. The second was Edward's nephew. He may have also married a "Mary", possibly Burke.

Deendants inlcude Brown and Toomey.

Hiram Murphy of New Milford, CT

I've been researching my Murphy ancestry from New Milford, CT and specifically, my great grandfather, Hiram Murphy. I just found an article from the New Milford Times, Sept.8, 1915, he was enlisted in the Co.H.2nd Conn. Heavy Artillery, and was taken prisoner in the Civil War Battle of Cedar Creek, Oct. 19, 1864. He was later honorably discharged from the Army. He died in Sept. 1915, after walking along the train tracks in New Milford on his way home from visiting a daughter, nearby, when he was struck and killed by a commuter train, as his daughter and others trying to get his attention, but due to his being deaf, he could not hear the warnings. Very sad story. Was wondering if anyone would know how to obtain any photos of soldiers in the Civil War?

Am tracing some of my family, and am stuck with Ann and James Murphy, who both came from Dundalk. They were gg-grand parents of mine.

They both came from Dundalk, and both born abt 1824. By 1857 they were living in Liverpool. James was a tailor. They had three children: Catherine (b. 1857), James (1859) and Mary Ann (1862). They show up in the 1871 & 1880 England Censuses. Their daughter Mary Ann married Anthony BRADLEY in 1884 and they lived in Liverpool too.

Thats the extent of my knowledge. If anyone could help that would be just great.

Came across you posting about Thomas Murphy and thought we could compare notes.
My lineage goes Thomas>Bridget>Rose...etc. so your James and my Bridget were brother and sister...We're cousins of some sort.

I've been trying to dig up info on Thomas Murphy and Jane Clark for a while now....Haven't gotten too far but will gladly share what I've got. I've also got some photos inherited from my grandmother (the above Rose's daughter) and can not figure out who the people are....I suspect they may be Murphy or Norton (the local Bridget Murphy married into) family from PA...let me know if you want to take a look...I can email them too you.

I have the death certificates for James, his sister Jane Murphy McFadden (with whom Thomas and Jane were living in 1900. I tried to track down death certs for Thomas and Jane as I belive they died between 1900 and 1910 from the fact they are missing from the 1910 census, but the PA Dept. of Health only has records from 1906 on...They have no record for Thomas and Jane from 1906-1910 soooooo I guess they both died between 1900 and 1906. Would love to track down some record some day as it would give us a location of birth and their parents' names.

I also have a transcript of the St. Mary's of Sartwell church books with tons of info on the Murphy marriages and births...Including your James who is burried there..

I don't think there is any connection; however this may be of some help.My name is Edward J. Murphy, don't get excited, the Murphy's lacked imagination so there are an awful lot of Edward J. Murphys. Here is whatr I have. Edward Joseph Murphy was born in Reading PA 1844,third son of John Murphy and (unknown first name) Reiley. He married(1865) Bridget Judge born in Ireland 1845. They had 11 children.They lived in Phoenixville PA. Of the 11, two were named Edward Murphy. One died in infancy. One son Michael Patrick had 9 children, one of which was Edward. I am trying to locate Timothy Murphy because I have some photos and other items that belong to him and I just want to give them to him. If anybody knows him, all he has to do is verify his birthdate, parents' names and the name of the high school that he graduated from and I will be happy to mail the items to him. I did not know him or his family but somebody gave me these items following the death of his mother and there is no charge.

I am researching this family as I have a letter from Kate Murphy dated 1890, to my gr, gr grandmother in Australia. At the time of the letter, she was living in Mt Carmel, Pennsylvania, however she was born in Ireland and had lived in England.

Kate Murphy was born Kate Dooley in Ireland abt 1848. She moved with her family to England between 1851 and 1861. She married Peter Murphy in 1868 in Barnsley, Yorkshire and they later emigrated to the USA. They had children (at least 3 daughters and 2 sons) and Peter Murphy had passed away by 1890 leaving Kate a widow. It is possible that three of her children were named Margaret, Peter and Mary Ann and were born in England, however this is yet to be confirmed.

If anyone has any information on this family I would love to hear from you. We have made connections with other family members in Pensylvania (Kate's brothers' descendants) and we would love to share information.

It has been over a year when we were in contact. I am again working on the Evans line, and was wondering if you have anything new to add.

This time I am working on Pamela Jane Evans aka Aunt Jennie. She is the daughter of James Henry Evans and Elizabeth Jane Russell.
I also have found other people that were not listed in Lula's first family tree, nor updated by Velma in 1971. So it has been an experience.

Ralph Bullock is my 2nd cousin on the distaff side. Other researchers of the Kain/Murphy familes are Stanly G. Kain, my 3rd cousin and myself. If there are others out there I don't know them.
But Mary Catharine Murphy is my great great grandmother and also great3x for Ralph and 4x for Stan.
Ralph would know more about the Bullock conection than I do.

I'm just getting into researching the Murphy bloodline and need a lot of help. From what I've been told, a good portion for the Murphy family I am related to are located in the Monroe, Louisiana area. Unfortunately, I don't have much information to go by but if anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated. Here's the list of relatives I know of....

Grandfather-Elmo Murphy Sr. married Mary Norman
Children: Marvin Murphy, Edward Murphy, Duwayne Murphy, Rodney Murphy, Tommy Murphy

The portion of the family listed all reside in Texas. I have been told Elmo had several children which are scatterd in Texas as well as Louisiana. Celina and Lewisville are the locations I know of. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looking for decendants of Patrick Murphy my Grandfather born in 1891 in Chorlton Hulme died in 1919 in Lancaster while working in the Munitions at Lancaster as part of the Royal Defence Corp.. in the 1911 census he was living at 7 Prescott Street Hulme Manchester with his father also Patrick Murphy, His Mum Sarah Blades/Murphy, Siblings John, Mary, James, Nickler, Sara-Ellen, Matthew, Michael......I have a blank from 1911 until his death in 1919 i know he was in the Royal Defence Corps and Irish Guards but i draw a blank when i try to find him.
