Hi
Yes my Murr relatives migrated from Germany to Ellis Island to Kentucky, to Missouri, to Oklahoma. Yes I have Murr relatives. My last name is Murr.
I have managed to track down my great - great grandparents parents and other relatives into the 1700's who came to Ellis Island from Germany. Ellis Island web page has photo copies of names and ships with other information to track down sir names. I was so lucky to find names that matched what my grandfather had passed down. I also have been able to locate a lady online who is from Murr ancestors, she has a lot of information. She goes by Aunt Sissy page online is at http://hometown.aol.com/atsissie/pubpage.htm
She has tons of info if you have not already found her page.
Please feel free to email me at familyties1700 at cox dot net and I will be glad to forward what information I have to you. It might be less than you have and it might have a name or two you do not have.
Have a great day.
Jakob and Catharine Murr - Württemberg/ Philadelphia, PA

Jakob (AKA Jacob) and Catharine (AKA Katherine; Kate) Murr (AKA Muhr; Mohr; Murre; Murro; Moore) are my gggrandparents. They are first found in Philadelphia 1860 census as Muhr, ages 45 and 39, with son John at 7 yrs. Alost all other records indicate the name as Murr. All records I can find (census, Civil War Pension file, death records) indicate they came from Württemberg, Germany, but never state a specific town or city. Their 2nd son, Charles Moore, is my ggrandfather, b 1868. Jacob died 12/23/1876 from wounds rec'd in the Civil War; Kate died 7/13/1872 from cholera. I suspect they immigrated between 1845 to 1855 or so. In order to find German records, I understand I need to have a specific town or city name. Can anyone suggest how I can research in order to find a town or city of origin? Any advice will be appreciated. Karen Moore / NJ

Edward Murray married Nancy Dixon 27 Jan 1853 in Newport, Lake county, IL and lived in Newport, Lake County, IL from about 1840 until he died on 29 Nov 1900 in Waukegan, IL. He is listed in the 1880 census for Newport and in the Waukegan census in 1900. You will see the children listed.

He wrote a booklet about his Civil War experiences and I have put it out on the internet. the site is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~edwardmurr...

He also has extensive Pension Papers because of his injuries.

Sorry I can't seem to make it a link so just copy it to your browser.

Thanks for the information that you gave me about his parents. I was stuck on that.

Nancy Dixon was born in NY about 1833. That is all I know about her.

I just found out about the marriage date from the Freemont Library thanks to this email of yours.

I would be glad to share any other information if I have it.

My Dad's name was John N Murr, born 1911, I remember My Mom and Dad talking about Wildcatmurr when I was growing up in the 50's and 60's. I later found out My Dad and Wildcatmurr were good drinking buddies back in the 1930's or post war 1940's. He (my Dad) lived in New London, Ohio all of his 95 years. Wildcatmurr was not my uncle. He may have been related to Floyd Murr. He (Floyd) had a son by the name of Joe Murr (not related) about my age now, (Spring 2009)approaching 60. They too were from New London. Kenny Murr was the top cop in New London when I was a kid, he was my Dads second cousin. Maby those other Murrs, Wildcat, Floyd, and Kenny were related?

My grandfather was Martin Charles Murr (b.03-25-1882 and d.10-20-1906). He married and died in Louisville, Ky. My father always thought he had two brothers and he came from Pa. He was supposedly a cooper .

His father may have been named Will and Will's father possibly Isadore. These were recollections of my father and may or may not be correct.

I would appreciate any information you have on the Murr family and especially if it appears that they are decendents of our family. Their daughter Sarah Murr b 1865 Union Co Ill married William Riley Coffman. They went to Dallas County, Iowa. On the 1925 Iowa census it gives the names of the parents. Sarah didn't die until 1947 and I was able to obtain that information from that census.

1925 Dallas Co Iowa household 41
Wm Coffman 65 Tennessee father Wm Coffman Tn mother Susan Presley
Sara Coffman 59 Illinois father Jim Murr born Tenn mother Martha Bogard born Tenn
Pearl Coffman dtr 17

I can not find Martha in the 1850 census in Monroe county, but I made another discovery while trying to track her parents.

Jacob Sheets died in Monroe County leaving a will 18 Feb 1853. His wife according to what I can find was Margaret Rule. Their children were John & Henry Sheets, Polly Gaston and wife James, CATHARINE BOGART WIFE OF JOHN BOGART, Martha Mosier wife of John Mosier, Margaret Shields WIFE OF JOSEPH SHIELDS (which I think is key here).

James Murr and Martha Bogart had a son JOSEPH SHIELDS MURR b 8 July 1860 Monroe Co Tenn.

The Bogart's aren't on the 1850 census that I can find anywhere. Guess they were left off, but 1830/1840/1860/1860/1880 I can find them.

John Bogart was born abt 1780 in Virginia. Catherine Sheets was born abt 1800.

1830 Regiment 67, Monroe, Tennessee pg 114
John Bogard age 50 to 60
11000001
11211 females

1840 Monroe, Tennessee (img 5) pg 144
John Bogart age 60 to 70 (born 1770 to 1780)
210000001 males
0110001 females age 40 to 50

1860 Dist 8 Monroe Co Tn household 749
John Bogart 79 Virginia
Catharine 60 Pennsylvania
Margaret 30 Tenn

1870 Dist 10 houehold 36 Katie Bogart 70
Peggy 40

1880 Dist 10 household 37
Mrs Catharine Bogart 78 widow
Margaret 50 daughter

This Catherine Bogart is ALWAYS living around Joseph Shields and Margaret Sheets. I suspect that Martha J was their daughter, but I don't have positive proof. Martha was born abt 1829 is the closest age I have on her from the 1860 census in Monroe Co. Then she dies in Union Co ILL approx 1865/1866 when James Murr marries his 2nd wife Francis Bryant McCall 23 Oct 1867

In 1860 I find a John Bogart who had married 29 Oct 1857 to a Mary Jane Holcomb/Halcomb. I think he's the same one who migrated to Texas by 1880.

Carolyn Whitaker
Johnson City, TN

I assume that you have decided that Letitia Medley's maiden name was Murr. This is possible as there was a large Murr family in Harrison County Indiana. I have a lot of research on this family, but much of it doesn't go as far as 1920. I do not have the Medley names you mention, but will make a note to watch for it.

If you would like some of the Murr information that I have email me.

Linda Fisher

Saw your 2004 message just now. Have you got the info. you wanted yet - or not?
If you are a Murr from Kent then we are probably related. All the Kent Murrs seem to descend from one man - William Murr born 1751. However, some folk were very good at avoiding being recorded - so who knows?
My grandmother was Isabella Murr, daughter of WilliamThomas Murr and his wife Isabella.
I now have 8 generations in my Murr family tree.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Shula
So far all of the family Murr's information for my family are from Germany. I have found my gggrandparents information that shows they are from Germany originally just like my grandmother and family told me. But I thought that maybe some of his brothers went from Germany to other countries from what I have found so far. But not sure of names to prove it. Are you related to the Murr's of England? I would love to exchange what information I have with you and see if there is a link to any of the names.
Loie Murr

Looking for information on Loie Murr. Her maiden name was Pierson and she was born in 1877 in Kansas. She married Andrew Murr and I think later divorced. I found him living with relatives in 1920 but can't find Loie after the 1910 census. Maybe she remarried, etc. Any information is appreciated.
