Would be interesting to see how many male Musgraves we could get to take the DNA test through Family Tree DNA.

I descend from Oswin Musgrave, but I have yet to find any Musgraves who decend from him except those who definitely do so on this (American) side of the Atlantic and can prove it by matching DNA test scores.

Bill Massey
Lewisburg, TN
a Musgrave descendant

I don't have much. I have Louisa Mae Butler (1853-1922) married to a Musgrave before 1891. Her 2nd marriage in New Mexico lists her name as Lou M Musgrave. Another record lists her first husband as a George Musgrave. They could have been married from the 1870s to 1891. She traveled from Missouri to New Mexico...

Looking for a possible George Musgrave...

As a point of reference, above is a URL that shows when Pennsylvania Counties were formed. Delaware County broke off of Chester county circa 1790. So, although you are historically correct that this cemetery is in Chester County- today it is in Delaware county. You may find that the find a grave entry is in the wrong 'current day' county. Just a thought.

Nancy Jane Musgrave

I am looking for information on my great grandmother. She is listed in my grandmothers Bible as Nancy Elizabeth Musgrave but listed as Nancy Jane on other paperwork. She passed away on January 30,1919 in Pushmataha County Oklahoma. Her father is listed as Harry Musgrave from Spencerville, OK but I can't find any other information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Martha Henbest

connection between Jonas Quimby and Thomas Musgrave

Thomas Musgrave born in Wayne NC moved to Tenn sometime around 1798. Most family ine show him as married to a mariah moore in Hardemon Conty Tenn.In tenn he produced numerous children Including Jonas,Quimby,Bennet Burrel Musgrave. There si a recoed in one of the Quimby lineages that a Penelope Quimby was married ot a Thomas Musgrave Jr.
The first homas Musgrave in NC was Thomas born in 1712 in Pennsylvania and died in NC may 11 1862.
He was the son of John Musgrave born in Aramgh In Ulster who was a Quaker and came over with hsi father Oswin bri about 1640.
Jonas Quimby appears near John Musgrove(sic) Musgrave and Joel in the 1794 cencus Wayne County NC.On the same page can be found Thomas next to a Joel Grantham. If Thomas Musgrave jr was born in 1749 or so he would have been over fifty producing all those children, possible. But why are they named after the Quimbys?
Aslo i see a record of Mahala Musgrave shown as one of Thomas children in most linreages, being married to a Joel Grantham, same name on the census.Did Thom Jr born 1749 have as on named John married ot Penny Q,or was he married ot Penny Q and Thomas in Tenn named his children after his uncles and grandpa?

Kind of looks like this is in Calvin Musgraves line. Curious since Calvins wife was Maria Wallen, sometimes Walden.
I bet following on e of the lines from Calvin bn Tenn 1805-died Atacosta county TX 1888 would lead you to William just a guess.Maybe the Wallen is a coincidence
Maybe Bennets line or Daniel Lynch Musgrave line.
I can be reached at musgrave8@sbcglobal.net
Checkout the Musgrave group on Yahoo. They are descndents of Calvins. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Musgrave/
Just pull up Calvin Musgrave on the search at ancestry and you will find lots of family files.

Excellent I have a rather alrge pdf on Valvins ancestors if you want. I think its on the Musgrave goup web site as well. If not just s tell me where to email it
Steve Musgrave

Calvin
Jonas Quimby
John Henry
Evelyn
me

Some of these middle names a really good clues to ancestors. I kept wondering who my great-grandfather Jonas Quimby Musgrave got that name. It's obvious he was named after someone named Jonas Quimby. So I started looking back and found nobody in Tennessee. In North Carolina sure enough the same census page were several Musgrave's was a Jonas Quimby.
Among his children was that Jonassen Jr. a Bennett and in Burel or Burw him ell, names that keep popping up in Texas Musgrave line. In another sense is in Tennessee I see a Musgrave's inner senses next to a Daniel Lynch.
I never really research that one very much.
When I started poking around the Quimby clan I discovered a Penelope Quimby had married a Thomas Musgrove. After finally sorting it out to became obvious to me that Thomas Musgrave's children many of them were named after his maternal grandfather and his brothers. So Thomas was the son of Thomas but I'm still not sure which one of the other Musgrave's begat the first Thomas.
Also there several Jonas Quimby's one born in 1790 one born in 1754 in the last one was born about 1840 you died in the Civil War.
I when I followed the Quimby's back I quickly found out they were bluebloods.Of course as we all know we are all bluebloods if you go back a few generations. The mathematical odds are astronomical any of us are not descended from somebody like William the Conqueror.
Isn't it just like a Musgrave to have an outlaw who killed the next Texas Ranger, added Texas Ranger in the same family. I'm speaking of course of the infamous George West Musgrave last of the old-time outlaws, was my great-grandfather's nephew.

Yes indeed they are Calvin's line.
Calvin Musgrave - Mariah Wallen
Wallen Lynch Musgrave - Sarah Jane Props
James Wallen Musgrave - Dovie Williford
William Wallen Musgrave - Gladys Belle Morgan
Milton Otis Musgrave - Vada Nell Franklin

This is my direct line.

Amanda

Jerry, I am a granddaughter of the James Oather Musgrave, son of Alexander and Addie McCarty Musgrave, b. Mar 25, 1906, with his twin brother Otis who did indeed die at age 4 or 5. My grandfather never said how or why his twin died, only that his father took him into the bedroom to say goodbye. I have a picture of the whole family (minus Virgil who had died around age 11) which includes Otis.

Also in the picture is Walter W. and his new (first) wife Hattie Howe. He was about 16 when they married according to the stories I heard my whole life.

Having seen census-takers' handwriting (1880, Goshen, AR, "Alexandra" is a boy--yes, my great-grandfather Alexander), I can see how Wallen and Walter might be confused. I believe Amanda has the right Wallen Musgrave in her own line coming down from Calvin, the brother of Burrell (my line), both sons of Thomas, b. 1775.

Back in 1981, Harm Musgrave, one
of my grandfather's cousins found a list of Alex and Addie's children (and a granddaughter whose mother probably died after childbirth). He hand-copied the list, and wrote at the bottom: "Earliest date 1775" and wrote that this was Thomas's birth year--and that he (Grandfather Thomas) was Alex's father. That date of 1775 is the sticking point for me. I hope that Amanda will see this and comment. I have e-mailed her already.

If you have discovered any other information on this bunch of Musgraves, please reply. I have a pretty complete list of the descendants of Alex and Addie, even down to living relatives.

Gena Williams
