These Greens are mine, maybe I have a clue.

I do know that William Green on the 1850 Hamilton Il census is the son of Richmond Green and Sally Smith. Richmond Green first married Betsy Sims in Adair Kentucky. Richmond, Lewis, Gardner, Allen, William and Henry Green were living in Adair Kentucky on Crocus Creek prior to moving to 1818-1830 White Illinois. They didn't all move to illinois at the same time.

My direct lineage comes from the Lewis Green above. His son William Green married Mary Polly Trammell (d/o Gerrard Trammel). Mary's brother Gerrard Trammell married Robert Musgrove. Got to be a connection there?

I also see the Zilpha Green that married Robert Musgrove. I suspected Zilpha's father Jesse is also related to my Greens (I have geographical information mostly on this assumption). They were living down in Pope Illinois in 1818.

I'm going to look at my records when I'm feeling better and see if I can find more info for you on Musgraves/Musgroves.

Rosannah/Roseanna Patton was the daughter of Samuel Boyd Patton. She was named after her grandmother Rosannah Stephenson. Her mother was Sarah D. Stephenson.

I have done much research on this family, but still don't have all the documentation I would like. If anyone has documentation to support the findings that have been stated, I would surely appreciate someone sharing with me.

There has been a lot of speculation on the Samuel Boyd Patton line and I have had a good deal of trouble trying to sort out the misinformation. However, I have documented everything that I have in my file.

Thank you for your help.

Li Ann Lee

Hi, I don't have any documents about the name change. I didn't intend for it to sound like the actual surname changed, but that my family's surname changed. My g-g-g grandfather Henry Musgrave married in 1786 and all his children were listed as Musgrove, either at birth or baptism

I didn't do this research so I have no further info as to why. Sorry if this caused any confusion.

Regards,

Helen

What documents do you have to justify that the Musgrave name was changed to Musgrove in 1780's? My great-grandfather's name was Musgrove from San Jacinto Co, Tx, town is Midway (used to be Old Security)TX. Buried in the County Line Cemetary (half way between Montgomery Co and San Jacinto County.
Don't have much info on the Musgrove side, just a list of those buried at the Co. Line Cemetary in Texas.

I am looking for the Musgrove families in St Louis who are related to Webster and Alma Musgrove. Alma's maiden name was Ball. Her mother Josephine (Cupler)Ball was widowed young and lived with Alma and Webster when they were first married. It is reported that she also married into the family of Musgroves but I can't find any information on this. So will keep looking for Alma and Webster. He was born in 1906. 1930 census says he was born in Arkansas, father from Missouri and mother from Georgia.

I am not a Musgrove descendant; but wonder if those of you who are, could help me sort out a timeline based on a note I found regarding John Musgrove, who I know nothing about. Here is what I've got.

Book- Pennsylvania Land Records, "Minutes of the Board of Property of the Province of Pennsylvania", edited by William Henry Egle I found the following.
Henry Carpenter, of Conestogo sets forth that one Henry Vinger, who some years ago settled on a parcell of Land near the Land of Herman Richman, by Isaac Taylor' appointment was to have Survey'd the Land, as Henry says, but was prevented by his sudden return home, the said Vinger settled accordingly, and afterward dyed,
leaving a Widow and two Sons, who desire to have 200 Acres, but a Son of John Musgrove has since settled within that Land and Spoil'd the poor man's design. Write to Isaac Taylor about it?

So what I'd like to know is this; does this sound like the same John Musgove you are descended from? Don't worry; I don't care about the land dispute. What I'd like is the timeline for this man which will help me sort out the Vineyard family.

Hope someone can help.

-Sheri at lequia@sbcglobal.net

Margaret PLESS MUSGROVE? 1870 census Laurel Twp., Ashe Co., NC

I am hoping someone can shed some light on this situation.

Margaret PLESS and her 3 sons by Elijah PLESS are found in the 1860 census North Eastern Dist., P.O Beaver Creek, Ashe Co., NC Roll#887, HH#621, Fam#621, p.350A (30 Jul):

Margret[sic] PLASSANTS[sic] 35 F Spinster b. NC
James " 13 M b. NC
Thomas " 11 M b. NC
Parker " 4 M b. NC

***********************************************************

She is then listed as Margaret MUSGROVE, found in the 1870 census Laurel Twp., P.O. North Fork, Ashe Co., NC Roll#1122, HH#77, Fam#77, p.515B (23 Sep):

MUSGROVE, Margaret 42 F W Tailorist b. NC; cannot write
" Thomas 18 M W Works on Farm b. NC
" Parker 13 M W At Home b. NC; cannot write
" Willy 7 M W b. NC
" Mary 4 F W b. NC

***********************************************************

In the 1880 census she is back to being a PLESS, found in Laurel Twp., Ashe Co., NC Roll#952, HH#57, Fam#65, p.604A (9 Jun):

PLESS, Maggie W F 45 [head] Wd Keeping House b. NC, parents b. NC; cannot read/write
" William W M 15 (son) S Farmer b. NC, parents b. NC; cannot read/write
[nearby is Thos. W. PLESS (23, b. NC) HH#60]

***********************************************************

My thought is that Elijah PLESS died before 1860, and between 1860 and 1870, Margaret married again and had 2 children, William and Mary by a Mr. MUSGROVE who died before 1870. Does anyone know where I can find marriage records for Ashe Co., NC to verify this? I have seen elsewhere that Elijah did not actually die until about 1865 (don't know where he was in 1860 then); if that is the case, is MUSGROVE Margaret's maiden name? I have seen her maiden name listed as DUCKETT or PUCKETT, but I have not been able to verify any of this. Any help with documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any and all assistance!

Alonzo Musgrove m: Mary Catherine Stoltz - abt 1872. Alonzo Musgrove m: Nancy Stoltz 2/19/1874. Mary had a sister named Nancy, but I don't think this is the same Nancy, or the same Alonzo. Stephen Musgrove m: Sara J Stolz 11/29/1874. Elbert (Albert) Musgrove m: Lillian Stoltz abt 1898. any help figuring out this mess would be greatly appreciated.

Alonzo Musgrove and Elmira (Almira) Huffman/Skaggs

I am trying to confirm the Maiden name of Elmira (Almira). Everyone on has her as a Huffman, or Hackman, but I just found the Death Certificate for her son Oliver Perry Musgrove, and It lists the mothers name as Elmira Skaggs, and says that Skaggs is the maiden name of his mother. I show that she remarried a William Twidwell after Alonzo Died. She was 50 when she married him. I don't think she remarried again. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if there is any connection in my line, but I have Musgrove's in Grey's Harbour, Washington. Most came from Illinois. My Musgrove's in Grays Harbour are from Alonzo Musgrove b: 1826 d: 1877, and his wife Elmira (or Almira) Huffman. Their offspring stayed in the area. Contact me if this fits your line, I think there may be a relation here.

How was your trip, hope you found some good info. Mary's Dad was Aquilla D Musgrove b. 1784 d. 1845. I do not know who the mother was. If you found her moms info on your trip, that would be a major breakthrough. She had several siblings, Eleanor, Stephen, America, William Frame, George, Elizabeth, Alonzo, Samuel and James Perry. In answer to your 2nd Question, The Aquilla on the census would have been her nephew as his father was William Frame Musgrove - Mary's brother. Feel free to contact me, would love to trade info, I like meeting new "cousins" ,and am also interested in any documents you may have found on your trip. I am attempting to put together a mass collection of all the various "musgrove" documents, pictures etc that are out there. I have met a couple of other Musgrove descendants that are sending me copies of family bibles, letters, pictures etc.

chad.musgrove@idearc.com
