Since 2005 I have discovered a little more information on my Dorothea Muth. She was born 1 Mar 1827 in Prussia to Frederick Muth and Christina Erfurt. Dorothea married John F. Barth and came to America around 1847 with her husband, and in 1860 Christina was living with the Barths in Washington County, Wisconsin. Her brother, Charles came to America too, not sure when, but he was born in 1829 and died around 1863 in Ozaukee, Wisconsin. There seems to be a sister, Fredricka, born around 1822 in Prussia, but can't find too much about her. I have since discovered that a lot of men were names Johannes with different middle names, and so my John Barth was once Johannes Fredrick Barth. So still not too sure how this fits in, but eventually there may be a connection.

I am sorry I am not replying to your query but I have a query regarding your public family tree. I am trying to locate someone with information on the Zuckswert Austin family tree. I have been looking for this info for a very long time and finally hope I may be on to something. May I ask how they fit into your tree? I am related to the Zuckswert side. Thanks for any help you may have.
Claudia Schoen

well my Jacob Muth lived in Maryland prior to passing away. He was married to a Vermenia Eyler of the same area. At least this is what I know so far. He had several children, one being my great grandfather William Albert Muth born in Emmitsburg, Md. That is all I can remember at this point since I can't open my family history right now. I formatted my drive recently and didn't realize that I didn't have a copy of my FTM available to me. It is packed somewhere and I am unpacking as we speak.

But thank you for offering. If I find it soon I will let you know if I know of anything else.

Crystal

Kateri,

Perhaps you have found much of this since your post, but below is what I found.

Despite the oral history that Jacob was a "stowaway," according to both the 1900 and 1910 censuses, he immigrated c. 1880, and a likely match is:

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 > 1881 > July > 27 > Henry Edge
Ship Henry Edge sailed Antwerp arr NYC 27 July 1881
Sheet 1 line 37
Jacob Muth 27y male farmer from Germany to USA in steerage

Perhaps the fact that he traveled in "steerage" evolved across the years to "stowaway"?

His census entries indicate that he was naturalized in 1885. You could obtain his naturalization papers from Oneida county.

Regards,
Susan Bork
Little Falls, NY
============

1900 United States Federal Census > New York > Oneida > Verona > District 92
13 June sh 6A beg ln 5 dw 124 fam 127
Jacob Muth head Dec 1856 md 17y GER GER GER imm 1880 here 20y nat’d farmer owns farm #63 on schedule w/mtg
Rosena wife June 1858 md 17y mother of 2/2 living NY GER GER
Fred P. son June 1882 NY GER NY NY GER NY
Charles H. son May 1893

1910 United States Federal Census > New York > Oneida > Verona > District 167
29 Apr sh (?)8A beg ln 2 dw 144 fam 154
Jacob Muth head 56 md 1x md 29y GER/Ger GER/Ger GER/Ger imm 1880 nat’d spks Eng farmer/general farm (wks own acct) farm owns farm #94 on schedule free of mtg
Rose wife 55 md 1x md 29y mother 2/2 living NY GER/Ger GER/Ger spks English
Charles A. son 16 single NY GER/Ger NY spks Eng laborer/home farm wage
Ln 5 dw 145 fam 155
Fred P.
Johann Jost Muth, Hesse, b. 1785, d. 1859, Bad Homburg

I am looking for decendants or ancesters of Johann Jost Muth. His father (also, probably a Johann)was a hessen soldier, captured in the battle of trent, then became George Washington's personal veterinarian, discharged 1783 after Treaty of Paris, returned to Germany. My gg-grandfather, Johann Jost, was born 1785. He married Dorothea Magdelena Ebelt 1818 and moved to Bad Homburg, Germany, just north of Frankfurt and west of Bad Vilbel. They had 9 children - maria Elizebeth, Johann Joseph, Johann Daniel, Johann Heinrick, Dorothea Magdelena, August, Jakob Ludwig, Fredrick, Katherina Anna 1818 - 1830.

I traveled to Bad Homburg and found the entire family in the Luthern Church records. According to the town records they were the only Muth family in town during the 1800s. My g-grandfather, Jacob Ludwig married Susanne Bartholomu Dahlem, 1851, emigrated 1853/54 to America, raised a family of 5. I have cataloged all his decendants in America.

Fredrick also emigrated to America. I would like to make contact with any decendants of Jakob's siblings or any of the Johann Jost Muth family either in America of Germany. I also seek information on siblings of Johann Jost or his ancesters. jerrymuth@wavecable.com

Petra Gibson:
My ancestors lived in Bad Homburg very near Bad Vilbel and just north of Frankfurt. My g-grandfather was Jakob Ludwig Muth the 5th of 7 sons and the 7th of 9 children. He was born 1826 and emigrated 1853. His father was Johan Jost Muth born 1785 and mother Magdelena Ebelt Married 1818. The next generation back was Johan Muth and served as Hessen solder, captured in the Battle of Trent, served the Continental Army, discharged 1783 and returned to Germany. I traveled to Germany, looked up the records in the Luthern Church and have names and dates for the entire family. The other names are Maria Elizebeth, Johan Joseph, Johan Daniel, Johan Heinrich, Dorothea Magdelena, August, Johan Fredrick, Katherina Anna. I also have the complete list of decendants of Jakob Ludwig in America. We were the only Muth family in town during the 1800s. I would like to compare notes with you or anyone with Muth ancestry in the Bad Homburg area during the 1800s.
jerrymuth@wavecable.com

I have those 13 children, including Rita Helfrich and Eugene Helfrich as children of Jacob Helfrich and Gertrude Mueth - but I do remember my mother talking about a family of children who were left in an orphanage. Unfortunately, my mother and the uncle who gathered this info (and most of that generation) died over many years ago.

Hi Petra,
I talked to you a long time ago about my G-Grandfather Franz ( Frank ) Muth who came over in 1863.He was born in Hesse, Germany in 1860 and I have always wondered if he had kin here since he came alone at age 23. His parents were Fredrick Louis Muth and Isabells Roush. He married Maria Fredrica Falter in 1886 at Atlantic City New Jersey. Her parents were Jacob Falter and Mary Preisentanz from Wurtemburg, Germany.
Have you been back to Germany lately?
Hope to hear from you,
Katherine

Dear Danielle,

A person called Minnie Herchenroeder gave her signature as a guest at my GF's funeral circa 1973.

I remember Minnie often baking these little round flat butter cookies on Sundays at my GF's.

Also , I remember her baking pies and always having an extra mini-tin so that my baby sister could bake her very own pie.

She had a daughter named Lillian who I believe was wed to an in-law of my father.

Missouri State Archives Online lists a death certificate for an Antony C. Herchenroeder who died in 1945 the address was 5014 Arlington Ave. The certificate shows wife named Minnie & that Anthony was born in Waterloo,IL.

My father grew up on Arlington Ave. In some old papers I find a person called Rose M. Mueth.

Do you think a funny coincidence?

Hallo Paul,
even it is a bit late. But I found this board only recently. I have seen the Marriage record of Johann Friedrich August Eiteljorge in Nordhausen:

Eiteljorge, Johann Friedrich August - 32 Years
Citicen, here, Junggeselle (unmarried)
Father: Eiteljorge, Johann Conrad Carl - Citizen, here
Mother: Christine Dorothee, geb. Schmidt or Schneider
November 6. 1813
Quelle, Johanne Caroline - 22 Years
Father: Quelle, Johann Eherenfried
Mother: Johanne Catharine, geb. Rudolf

The name "Quelle" is here in Germany quite common.
Quelle means: spring, source of water.

The "o" in Eiteljorge is written with 2 dotts on top - the special german character.

I hope, that this helps a bit.

An other record in Nordhausen, Germany says:
"Eiteljorge, August emigrated 1829 with family to the Northamerica:
Caroline geb Quelle
Caroline
Christiane Kohler"

I, Jorg Eiteljorge resident in Bremen, Germany search on our family around Nordhausen, Rottleben.

Re: Muth Family in Lehigh & Berks Counties, PA

I am also researching this line of Muths from this same area. I am decended from Solomon and Mary Brobst Muth throught their grandson Edgar Franklin Muth and Ruth Custer Frederick Muth.

I wonder if you have continued researching and found who I believe to be the parents of Solomon Muth (1806-1876)? Based on census records alone, I believe his parents to be Nicholas and Elizabeth Muth.

1830 Census Lynn Twp, Lehigh Co, PA
Nicholas Muth,
males:
(1) 5-9(Daniel)
(2) 20-29 (Samuel and Solomon)
(1) 70-79 (Nicholas)
females:
(1) 15-19
(1) 20-29
(1) 50-59 (Elizabeth)

1840 Census for Lynn Twp, Lehigh Co, Pa shows Solomon Muth now on his own. Living with him is an elderly woman 60-69 years of age.

1850 Census for Albany Twp, Berks Co. PA shows the Solomon and Mary A. (Brobst) Muth family with Elizabeth Muth age 73. My records show that Solomon's mother was possibly Elizabeth Schuler. Her age fits the census range for the 1830 Census for Nicholas Muth.

Any thoughts? Would like to work with you to determine when this family came to America and try to work back to Europe.

All the best to you,
Kurt Schumacher

I am a direct descendant from Jacob and want to confirm the connection to Johanne. Any body know anything that can help??
Thank you!
Laura

Hi, I'm 18 and researching my family history, and I ran into your comments. My third great grandfather was August Mueth, son of Kaspar Mueth and I was interested if anyone had any information. I have a lot of names, but I'm confused as to who is the child of whom. My e-mail address is muethfarm5@Norcom2000.com. Thanks!!

George Muth

Yesterday I received the following data from the wonderful lady that personally transcribed the Shelby County, Indiana 1850 Census:
August 12, 1850
Shelby Co IN
Hanover Township
Page 375
Household 62 Family 63
George Muth 52 Male Germany United Brethern Clergyman
Sarah 48 Female PA
Adaline 21 Female OH
David 19 Male OH
Henry 16 Male OH
Caroline 14 Female OH
Augustus 12 Male IN
Davis M. 9 Male IN
Elizabeth 4 Female IN
William Arrin 23 Male OH

This along with other info she looked up for me confirms that Adaline W. Muth is the connection I have to this line. The other info includes the 1860 Census that shows your Davis M. Muth.
This is my first real break-through in over 5 years of searching and I'd truly like to exchange info with you and any of our other "cousins".
Sincerely,
Diane Winters
