Hi Ailsa - Although "my" Mutter's appear to have been born in Brixham several of the family ended up in Cardiff Glamorgan. Joseph MUTTER (sen) b circa 1809 in Bere Ferrers a Merchant Mariner married Matilda BRINHAM b 1811 in Brixham d 1866 in Brixham of Cholera. I have not been able to locate this Joseph's birth details or his marriage to Matilda. They had the following children all born in Brixham:
Matilda Brinham MUTTER b 1838 found 1881 in Llandaff Cardiff
Louisa MUTTER b 1839.
Elizabeth Brinham MUTTER b 1841. found 1881 spinster School mistress living in Roath Cardiff with sister Susannah.
Joseph MUTTER b 1844 drowned in Cardiff dock 1884. He married Sarah MERCER of Gloucestershire 15 Nov 1863 Newport Monmouth. They had the following children: All born Cardiff.
Sarah Ann MUTTER 1864-1878
Louise MUTTER 1870-1876
Elizabeth MUTTER 1874-1875.
Matilda MUTTER 1878-1940 She married Samuel LORD in Halifax Yorkshire 8 Feb 1902 ( my Maternal grandparents)
Sylvia MUTTER 1881-1923 married Sidney FIRTH 11 Nov 1905 in Harrogate Yorkshire. They remained childless.
