Laura Estella (Myers) Pelton, b.abt1917, dau of Aubrey/Blanche, of Wood Co., OH

I have an original postcard photograph of “Laura Estelle Myers, when she was two months old – Blanche and Aubrey”, and I’d like to get it back to descendants or family members. Baby Laura is being held by a lady about age 35, who surely could be her mother Blanche. Research shows that mother Blanche's maiden name was Overholt, born abt 1877.

I found Laura E. Myers, age 3, in the 1920 census for Bloomdale (Wood Co.) OH, daughter of Aubrey and Blanche Myers. In 1930, family still lived same place but by 1940 in Wood Co., OH census, Laura is married to “Everson” Pelton. Ancestry Public Member Trees shows Laura Estelle Myers married to Emerson Dale Pelton, and that she died 5 Jul 2009 in Pima Co., AZ. Her obituary in the Hancock Co., OH Obituary Index shows her as Laura Estelle Myers Pelton.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Laura Estelle Myers Pelton.

FYI Major Mordecai Myers, the Mayor of Schenectady NY, was a War of 1812 War Hero. Records suggest that he was related to President Martin Van Buren through the Hoes family.

Lots of disagreemants on Major Myers because his father decided to leave the US and move to Ontario during the War of 1812.

One of the relatives was Cassie Mason Myers Julian James, a Washington DC Socalite who seemed to know relatives of Dolley Madison.

Do you have information on Elizabeth's father George Myers. For years, I've been trying to find parents or siblings for Edward Myers, born about 1800 in VA (supposedly from one source). He married Elizabeth Griffin in Frederick County, VA 1827. Their first child, Stephen George Myers, was born in Cincinnati OH 1828. There is a Edward Myers listed in The 1830/31? Cincinnati city Directory, it's online. Their 2nd son, Joseph Edward Myers was born about 1834 in VA & 3rd child, Marshall Emery Myers was born in 1836 in Winchester, VA. By 1840 they were in Ralls County, MO. Edward died 1845 per his probate in Ralls County, MO. His wife Elizabeth probably died before 1850, as no record of her has been found. The 3 sons moved to CA in 1857 where they lived and died.

Thanks much for posting this obit. Sorry it has taken so long to reply, but the culmination of forty years of study has been some illumination of this family.
Elizabeth MYERS WEBB was the daughter of George MOYERS/MYERS and Elizabeth RIFFY. Lucinda MYERS CONARD was the daughter of Frederick MOYERS/MYERS and Mary RIFFY. They were double cousins, Elizabeth born 1817 and Lucinda born 1833. Perhaps there was another relationship between Wm WEBB and Lucinda, as suggested, but it is not thru the MYERS family as far as I can tell.
In the end, the only way to begin to sort out the George MOYERS/MYERS family was through the Knox Co deeds, because George died rather soon after moving to OH from VA in the 1830's.

Mary Ann Myers Howard

Mary Ann Myers married Christopher Howard in Ross Co., Ohio in 1845. They had nine children one of which was my great grandmother, Mary Ann Howard. Mary Ann Myers was born in 1824 in North Carolina. Who were her Parents? Some genealogies say John Myers (Mires) and Mary Wagster. I'm not sure this is correct. On her death certificate it says that John and Mary Conar(Conner?) were her parents. I'm thinking that her father died and her mother remarried. Did Mary Ann have any brothers or sisters? Can't find anything onher before 1845. Mary Ann and Christopher Howard were my great-great grandparents. Thanks in advance if anyone can give me any info.

Re: "Wolf" Myers

My file is as large as a Staples Storage Box. Much of it is from the Martinsburg Library and from John Esten Cooke's gravesite records. He is the person who wrote the story on Hunter John Myers.

I did look up the Wolf family and they seem to be related to Tater Myers and the Morgan family of Col Morgan Morgan buried at Inwood.

This is where it gets confusing.

Hunter John Myers seems to be Catholic and his wife Catherine Eberhart seems to be Lutheran. The Eberharts seem to be related to the Banking Mellons of Pittsburgh. A very sensitive subject with them including a Myers family who lived next door to James Scott Negley who's sister married Judge Thomas Mellon of Pittsburgh.

It's very clear in John Esten Cooke's book on Hunter John Myers. His daughter, an actress, attended Lindon Hall Catholic school headmastered by Bishop Wayland the future Bishop of Richmond. He seems to be related to Bishop John McGill who took over Richmond from Bishop Wayland. Lindon Hall was a block from actress Belle Boyd's house and the Boyds also claim to be related to Hunter John Myers.

John Esten Cooke knows about all this because Sally Myers attended Lindon Hall Catholic Girls School which was owned by his wife's family.

Then I do not give out any records on Hunter John Myers until who is ever interested in them, agree that a book titled Leather Stocking and Silk or Hunter John Myers and His Times exists and is available on Amazon.com for about $15. Get the book, read it, and we will share records.

Missouri d. 30 Mar 1886 and married Debbie Bly.
Peter Myers III would be about 1799 and in Kentucky. He married ? Young
Peter Myers II I am guessing about 1775 and perhaps Kentucky also?
I have nothing on Peter Myers I except he married Mary Eaton in 1768.
Joel I have nothing on and also Valentine I have nothing on.

It is an interesting coincidence. President James Buchanan's brother was married to Pittsburgh Song Writer Stephen Foster's sister.

Many of these families were connected to Senator John Cabel Breckinridge who was the grandfather of Vice President John Cabel Breckinridge.

Senator Breckinridge was the majority owner of the Myers Iron Works at Slate Creek KY.

I have been working this line for years including a Valentine Myers.

I have extensive records on Hunter John Myers but just a few records on his 18 children. Most of my records are on his daughter Sally Myers who attended Catholic Girls School at Lindon Hall in Martinsburg. Lindon Hall was owned by the family of CSA Col John Eston Cook who wrote the story of Hunter John Myers. Bishop Wayland was the Headmaster before he became Bishop of Richmond VA. He was related to the next Bishop John McGill the Civil War Bishop of Richmond VA.

Actually there are three hunters involved. John Myers, Tim Murphy and Robert Stuart. All these families are related to each other. At least 15 Hunter John Myers children are unacounded for including Wolf Myers. Wolf is most likely a last name and it could be a version of Rolfe which I understand was pronounced Wolf.

It's depends if your related to President James Buchanan of Lancaster PA. There are the exact same names connected to President James Buchanan and his Vice President John Cabel Breckinridge and his aide William Myers. How is that for a coincidence?

If so, then it's Captain Bly and Cook of the Cook Islands.

The given name Christian comes up a few times in the nearby Adams County MYERS line descending from Philip Nicholas MEYER through his son Ludwig. Ludwig's son Peter had a son Christian...but too early to be your Christian. However, that given name appears earlier as well in this same family. It might be worth your taking a look in Adams County at this very prolific MEYER/MYERS family to see if you can make a connection.

For what it is worth my great-grandfather and at least one of his siblings were born in Cumberland County according to their death certificates even though their parents were known to have been living in Adams County at the time of their births...the reason for this is still a mystery to me. If only one of the DC said "born Cumberland County" I'd write it off as an error...but two?

Joan
