Former Iowa Citian Died This Morning at Clinton

Mrs. Laura Mahanna Cate, 84, former resident of Iowa City, died at Clinton this morning after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Cate was born Laura Dell Mygatt on July 20, 1854. Her parents were Henry R. Mygatt and Elizabeth Purceil, Johnson county pioneers, who resided on a farm near Iowa City. Moving to Iowa City with her family when her father served a city marshal here she received her education in the local schools.
The deceased was married in 1873 to Franklin B. Mahanna. Three children born to this union preceded their mother in death.
In 1899 Mrs. Mahanna married Benjamin Curry Cate, the two making their home in Council Bluffs and later in Omaha, Nebr. On her husband's death in 1917, Mrs. Cate returned to Iowa City, where she resided until 1936. Since April of that year she had made her home with a cousin, Percival P. Pascal, in DeWitt.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Hohenschuh mortuary, with burial in Oakland cemetery.
