Has anybody any history on the myles family who lived in the blairgowrie area. My grandads name was Angus and his wife Johan(bunty) they had 3 sons, Bob, James+Alasdair, also a daughter called Johan. I know both my granny and grandad are dead but it would be nice to know more about where i originate from. My father was alasdair myles the son of angus. I also know that my grandads sister was actually his mother and his brothers were known to him as his uncles.

TERRIBLE ACCIDENT -- A dispatch from San Francisco to the ‘Union,’ April 30th, says:

The steamer Senator arrived tonight from the southern coast in charge of the 1st officer, BUTTERS. Capt. T.W. SEELEY was killed on the 27th instant by the bursting of the boiler of the little steamer Ida Hancock, on her trip down from New SAN Pedro to the anchorage of the Senator with passengers and freight. The steamer was a small propeller, owned by R. BANNING of San Pedro, and employed as a tug and in freighting between San Pedro and the ship anchorage. The boiler was new. There were some 50 passengers on board, and the loss of life is fearful. The boat was torn to pieces, and the explosion was heard on board the Senator. Boats were sent from the steamer, and the officers and soldiers at Camp Drum hastened to render assistance.

Most of those reported dead were probably killed instantly. RITCHIE, Express Messenger, lived for 2 hours. A small portion of the Express matter was saved. There were some 25 killed in addition to the names reported.

SAD BEREAVEMENT -- In the recent explosion of the boiler of the steam-tug Ida Hancock, in the harbor of San Pedro, Mr. John SANFORD, one of the Board of Supervisors of this county, met with the loss of a brother whose name appears in the list of the killed. On board of the same steamer at the time of the accident, Mr. SANFORD had a mother, sister, brother-in-law and nephew, all of whom are reported among the wounded. They were all en route for this city and at the time of the explosion, were making the passage from the shore to the steamer Senator, which lay at anchor in the harbor. This is a sad bereavement and one which calls forth the sympathy of an entire community.

-The funeral of Frederick COOK, Assistant Treasurer of the Overland Mail Co.; Captain SEELEY, of the Senator, and Frederick KERLIN, were largely attended today.

My grandfather was born on April 14,1901and passed away on November 14,1953. He married Unity Irene Woods from Canada. She was born on June 21,1904 and passed away on March 5,1955. She along with her little brother Jimmy were placed in an orphanage when they were little by there mother. Jimmy passed away in the orphanage unknown when. I know that both my grandmother and grandfather lived in Buffalo, N.Y. at the time of there deaths. Thank you for your time and any information would be great

I have tracked down some additional information on the Clark County Myles. Thomas Butler Myles lived next door to John Myles in Chocktaw, Anderson Twp in the 1870's and 80's. They were first cousins, John, son of Thomas; and Butler, son of Nathanial/Authaniel Myles.
It appears that Thomas and Nathaniel were sons of Henry Miles of Washington County, KY. Henry's father was Joseph Miles. Joseph's father was Henry Miles, born c. 1727, Nelson County, KY.

Does anyone have any information on James Myles born in Fermoy, Cork, Ireland on 31/08/1858 (according to his Naval records). He served in the Royal Marines in the 1880s and the Royal Navy (as a Stoker) between 1889 and 1901. He lived in Portsmouth, England and married Sarah Sparkes in 1882 and had two children Charles Edward (1880) and James William (1885). I am particularly interested in any of his forefathers (his father might have been named James, who was a Tailor) or what he and Sarah did after 1901.

Thomas Butler Myles was the son of Sarah and Arthur Oxendine Myles and a brother to Charles Myles, Matilda's husband.

I am looking for a John Goodman(Goodwin) Myles that Scotland in the mid 1800's. He was born Oct 20, 1847 and died Feb 17, 1926 in Iowa. He married Sophie Keil(Klien) on Dec 6, 1875 in Iowa. He landed in NYand worked his way west. My ggrandmother (Mary Anne Myles) wrote some of this in a notebook before she past away. Could anyone help me with this line.

Estella Myles was only 15 or 16 yrs. of age at the birth of her son, Harry M. ...After her divorce from Harry F. (my Grandad) she moved to Redding, CA. Did she ever remarry? I am looking for information about my g grandfather. His parents were Mr & Mrs Philip Myles. I believe they were born around Hyde, UK, and went to America (probably just before 1881 cos I can't find them in the UK census!).

Philip James was born in the US (possibly New York) in 1890. They all returned to Hyde in 1901.

William Henry James Myles married my maternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Oldfield in 1895 in Chorlton, Manchester, England. Henry William James Myles died in 1943 in Salford. He was named after his father. They both followed the same profession as french polishers. It is thought that the Myles family originated in Roscommon, Ireland. My ancestors by the Wabash River were John Wesly Miles/Myles and Mary Jane Matthews. They had a gristmill at Chocktaw, a/k/a Darwin. Children:

Lester David 1894.
John's parents were John Wesley Myles and Luisa Onendine, near Snider (Hatton) Il.

Louise married Lewis Bush in 1905 in Terre Haute. He was a glassblower. They lived at 1632 S. 9th St in Terre Haute until moving to Detroit in 1927.

I would like to know more about this family line. Were they originally English or Irish?

Looking for info. on Josephus Myles, b. bet. 1790-1800 in NC or SC. He married Eveline Bryant in Baldwin Co., AL in 1835, but died bet. 1835-1840. I am looking for the name of his first wife, who died bet. 1830 and 1835. They were probably married in NC or SC. Josephus' father may have been W. M. Miles, married to second wife Winnafred, also living in Baldwin County. Josephus' descendents lived in Baldwin County until abt. 1900, and then moved to NW Louisiana, when they went by Mills.
