Hi Sandra,
I have quite a few documents relating to Catherine’s marriage and her children, my dad is still with us, I am happy to say, and so is one of his sisters, so they were able to help with some details and confirm others.
I have her marriage banns, details of their 5 children, the arrivals forms for her and her youngest son John Frederick when they arrived in Canada.
Census returns for 1881 (? I am sure this is her!) for 1891 and 1901. I also have her on the electoral role for 1918, 1919 & 1921 – these are linked to an address that is known to our family.
What I don’t have is her birth record, or her death record – she died in Canada I believe and I always thought she was born in America, but now I am not so sure – it may have been Ireland!
Thanks again
Anne
Hi Sandra,
Thank you for taking the trouble to respond to my plea for help!
I checked the 1891 census for Margaret & Catherine and I am happy to be able to add a sister for her, she seems less lonely now!
I also found a Miles family in 1881, which includes Edward (widowed), Margaret, Kate (Catherine?), John and Betsy. This lists Edward and Kate born in Ireland, so this family is either unconnected to my Miles family, there was an error made when completing the place of birth on the form or maybe Catherine was fond of ‘tall stories’ and was born in Ireland and not the states?
But, I was surprised to see them living in the Stockwell Street as two other branches of my family, one of which will become Catherine’s in-laws in the future.
Did you happen to see the 1881 census return, and what is your opinion if you did?
It is great to have a couple of leads to follow, so thanks very much.
Best regards
Anne
I am hoping that someone will be able to help, or at least have some suggestions that will help me further the search for my great grandmother Catherine Myles, her details are:

Born: Catherine Myles, b. 1874. In the 1891 census she has her place of birth as America.

Father: Edward Myles deceased by her wedding in 1896

Married: 10 May 1896 - Camberwell Christ Church to

Spouse: Richard John Kimber, b. 1874 in Aylesbury.

Richard John Kimber is marked as deceased on his daughter’s wedding cert in 1921.
I have not found any reference to Catherine or Richard on the 1911 census
I know that Catherine left the UK with her youngest son John Frederick Kimber in 1921, to live in Canada, aided by the Salvation Army, but I don’t very much following her departure.
What I would really like to know is where she came from? Family members that I have spoken to suggest Boston USA, but I don’t know which one, or when she might have left the USA to come to the UK. I know nothing of her family apart from her fathers name.
I would love to be able to find out more but I don’t know how, or where to start really (I do not have worldwide membership)
I would appreciate any tips or help offerred, and if you can't help thanks for reading!

Just joined ancestry and found your posting. I am Barry Kilroy. Son of Willis Kilroy; son of Alfred Kilroy; son of Martin Kilroy (b. 1840) married to Catherine Myles of eardly Quebec (b. 1848) I have Catherine Myles born to a James Myles and Margarite Murray of ontario. Martin (my ggrandfather) was born to Patrick Kilroy and Mary Ryan of possibly Tipperary Ireland. Patrick (now my gggrandfather was born to a John Lawrence Kilroe (Kilroy) married to Mary Dunn. They were both cited as being from the Tipperary Munster Ireland area and possibly left for Quebec in the 1838 period.

Arthur Myles is my Grandad but I know little about him other than his name and that he was never placed on my fathers birth certificate. My fathers names is Jan Carlos Hopkinson and was born in 1963. His Mother is Shirley Hopkinson but I have no information on her either as Jan was placed into care as a child. Jan has three sisters, Michelle, Lisa and Victoria. If anybody has any information on Arthur Myles it would be greatly appreciated. We have always been told that he'd died but we're not certain of this.

I am not sure of the exact location of the church, you may be able to find that and a list of the humreys lineage on line. The Daniel Myles house is still in Westminister, Massachusetts just past Worchester. There is a book on General Nelson A. Miles who I am related to, he is a decendant of John Myles and the book goes into great detail of the family lines here in america. If I find that book I'll look up those names. Good luck..

That would make sense eh?

Grandparents are from Massachusetts as far as I know. Names are William Leo Myles jr and Carolyn Ruth Ferrini. They where married Nov 10, 1961. I would assume they married in Massachusetts.

My grandmas side I found a good amount, they are all from Italy. But I can't find anything past my great grandpa. I know my grandpas dads name is William Leo Myles Sr. But that's it, can't find anything else on him and where the Myles name came from.

I'm trying to find out more about my dad's side of the family. I've gotten as far as my great grandparents and that's about it. It looks like they came from Italy and my grandparents/dad where born in Plymouth Massachusetts.

I'm having a hard time finding anything of use here and can't connect the dots because I simply just don't know any of their names and how to trace it back.

If anyone has any tips or knows anything about our family, please help out!

Thanks,
Mike

Hi,

I know your post is old, but I am just beginning my journey on ancestry.com. I believe my 3rd great grandfather is also Thomas Myles. My 2nd great grandfather was his son John who was born in Ireland before the family moved to Kings County NB in 1839. His wife appears to be Margaret who has passed away by 1851 (the census does not show her). Thomas and Margaret had about 8 children (confused about a Robert who was 13 and traveled with them? I believe) - most born in NB. Any information you found would be great... (My great-father is George who was born to John Myles and Elizabeth Day in NB as well, but then moved to Massachusetts)

BernitaHarris

My GGF William Damery (1856-1934) had a brother George (1854-?) and a sister Jane (1861-?). They were the children of Thomas Damery (?-1883) and Eliza Cockran (1831-1919). Jane married William Miles.

The 1871, '81, '91, 01' and '11 NB censuses show links.

There is also an Eliza Damery with the White and Chapman families in the NB censuses but I can't connect that information to my tree.

I would be interested in further information exchange with you.
Wives of Rev. John Miles/Myles of Swansea, Maryland and Herefordshire, England 17C

Rev. John Myles of Swansea, MA had two wives, but I am only finding reference to his second wife, Anne Humphrey. Since most sources say they married around 1678, it does not seem likely or possible that John's children John, Samuel, Mary, Nathaniel, James, Margaret, and Katherine are of their union. Rev. John was born in Herefordshire, and I have seen one record of a marriage between a John Myles and Anne Lingen in 1653 in Herefordshire but I cannot find any other information on this to determine if it is him. If anyone has information about the wives of John Myles, I am interested. Thanks for your help!

Very interesting. Do you know what part of Brooklyn, or where they are laid to rest? I do not have much RE: where in IRE they are from or older relatives.

Hello,
I am related to the Myles family of County Tipperary who lived in Rochestown, Ardfinnan, and Clonacody. I am currently in Ireland trying to research some of my roots going back further. I have established that my g-g-g-grandparets were Patrick Myles and Mary Prendergast. One son was Thomas Myles who married a Johanna Lonergan; a daughter was Bridget Myles who married Patrick Kelleher. Thomas, Patrick, and Bridget are family names that are found in every branch because of the naming traditions. Patrick Myles' father or grandfather is likely William Miles, a merchant, who was given a large tract of land in Rochestown as a bribe to convert to protestantism. There is the possibility that Patrick Myles had a brother named Thomas who might be your relative.

My grandmother Alice Kelleher immigrated from Castlequarter Ireland to Brooklyn in 1902. She was the g-grandaughter of Patrick Myles.
