Interested to hear who your father was as I have many Myron connections from Dufftown.
My Great Grandmother was Mary Jane Myron who married Alexander Begg, an Auctioneer and Valuer in Dufftown.
You are probably familiar with this family of thirteen daughters, many who married Excise men who were stationed in the town of "seven stills".
The house where they lived was called Blinkbonny and Mary Jane Myron was known as Granny Begg.

Without punctuation and capitalization, I am having a hard time understanding your post. Arthur is supposed to be an ancestor? Is that what you are saying? Or are you saying that you think your Hugh is related to just the Myrons in general?

Is your dad Hugh Wellyn Myron? And he is the son of Elias Ferdinand Myron or are you talking about a different Hugh?

Stephanie

Thanks Patrick Myron for insight into ancient history. Granted I would appreciate knowing how the Myrons, Myrins, Mirons etc.. ended up in Ireland ? Interestingly enough a local University Researcher here in Newfoundland suggested the name was of Russian origin. I kind of "fu-pawed" that, because I knew my ancestors came from County Carlow, Ireland.....(His grave stone states him to be a native of Kilcumney, County Carlow, Ireland. Likewise his wife Ann (nee Kinsella is native to Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Ireland.

Interesting that you cite Myron as being Wexford, and close to Carlow and that many Myrons exist there today. My GrGrardfather comes from Carlow, circa 1830 to Newfoundland, as subsequently did his wife Ann Kinsella (my GrGrandmother.
While GGF spelt his name MIRON, as did one of his sons Thomas Miron. The other two sons James (my Grandfather ) and Patrick spelled the name MYRON. Records at Dunleckney(1821 and onwards) have Miron, Miren, Miran. Note a memorial at Ballyellin Cemetery, at Kilcumney state two natives killed by the military during the 1798 revolts, were Thomas Myran and Michael Myran..Can't seem to get any further back. i.e. who were GGF's parents. I know GGM Ann (Kinsella) Miron's parents were Patrick Kinsella and Catherine Barry.

We are a Myron,( also spelled Miron), family here in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador(Canada). James Miron came from County Carlow,Ireland circa 1830. He had sons Thomas, Patrick, and James.
James Jr. had two sons Richard (my father) and Thomas(my uncle) who moved to the "Boston" states as a young man. He lived upstate New York, at Rhinebeck, and raised a big family with his wife Rose(nee Lake).
However I am not aware of an Arthur in the family
My surname has shown various spellings as Myran, Miron, and Myron.
Here in St. John's, Newfoundland the family in fact uses both Myron and Miron. Church and State records switch back and forth between the two. My Greatgrandfather's gravestone spells Miron(he came out from Ireland, Co. Carlow circa 1830). My Grandfather's stone spells Myron. And in Ireland where Gr.GdFr came from I find only the spellings Myran and Myron.
Wondering if the Irish Myran's, Myron's, even Miron's are of the same Greek lineage ???

MYRON name ancient

THE SURNAME MYRON IS ULTIMATELY OF GREEK ORGIN. THE SURNAME MYRON DERIVES FROM THE NAME OF THE GREEK SAINT MYRON WHO LIVES IN THE THIRD CENTURY. HE WAS MARTYRED AT CYZICUS ON THE SEA OF MARMORA, AND SUBSEQUENTLY VENERATED IN THE ORTHODOX CHURCH. HERE, THE NAME MYRON WOULD BE OF PATRONYMIC ORGIN, DERIVING FROM THE NAME OF THE FATHER OF THE FIRST BEARER OF THE NAME.
THE SURNAME MYRON IS POPULAR IN RUSSIA AS MIRONOV, THE GREEK/SLAVIC NAME IS ALSO NOT SUPRISINGLY FOUND TO FOUND AS AUSTRIAN. DURING THE DURATION OF THE AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN EMPIRE MANY SLAVIC PEOPLE CAME TO AUSTRIA AND BROUGHT THEIR LANGUAGE AND SUBSEQUENTLY THEIR NAMES WITH THEM. ANOTHER NOTABLE BEARER OF THE NAME MYRON WAS THE SCULPTURER
MYRON IN THE FIFTH CENTURY B.C. HE WAS A NATIVE OF ELEUTHERE ON THE BORDER OF ATTICA AND BOEOLIA. HE WORKED PRIMARILY IN BRONZE. MYRON EXCELLED IN MODELING ATHLETHES, ANIMALS AND FIGURES IN MOTION. HIS MOST CELEBRATED WORKS WERE "DISCOBOLUS" "ATHENA ANDMARSYAS" LADAS THE RUNNER" AND "A COW IN THE MARKETPLACE OF ATHENS" COPIES OF THE FIRST HAVE ONLY SURVIVED. (EVERY SURNAMED MYRON SHOULD HAVE ONE-MINE IS ON MY FIREPLACE MANTLE). MINE CAME FROM GREECE-HOWEVER YOU CAN FIND COPIES HERE IN THE U.S. ALSO.
THE SURNAMES OF PEOPLE NAMED MYRON SUGGESTS THAT THE NAME WAS POPULAR IN MANY PARTS OF EUROPE -WHICH IS OFTEN THE CASE WITH THE NAMES OF SAINTS
THE FOLLOWINF COAT OF ARMS WERE GRANTED TO THE FAMILY MYRON IN HUNGARY (DATE UNKNOWN

BLAZON OF ARMS: GULES, ON A TERRACE VERT, A UNICORN SPRINGING ARGENT.
CREST: THE UNICORN OF THE ARMS ISSUING

P.S. VERY FEW PEOPLE IN THE THE WORLD TODAY CAN TRACE THEIR SURNAME AS FAR BACK AS WE CAN. ALL MY RESEARCH ON THE FAMILY NAME ALWAYS LEADS BACK TO THE EARLY GREEKS.

As for the origins of the family, the family is an old French family.
Family history indicates that the first of the Myrins came to Dufftown with
the court of Mary, Queen of Scots. The first of the family was a
troubadour or smimilar in the court and fell in love with one of the Duff
women. They subsequently wed and the family remained in the region

Myron ancestor.

This is from a newspaper article which appeared in the Dufftown News, 3 November, 1956 and written by a George Myron Black, late of Smallburn, Auchindoun.

The Myrons are a family of no mean origin being lineally and legitimately descended from Jane (sometime Joan) grand daughter of Edward III of England and wife and widow of James I of Scotland - the white dove of his "Kings Quhair".

After James' death Jane married Sir James Stewart, the Black Knight of Lorn, and from their son John, Earl of Atholl, where descended on the female side the Gordons of Lismoir, Rhynie and of Birkenburn, Keith. Adam Duff of Clunybeg, Mortlach, ancestor of the Duffs of Braco, Dipple and Fife married Beatrix Gordon of Birkenburn. Their son was Alexander Duff of Keithmore, "Creely" or "Croilie" Duff whose freeeston bust stands in the Kirk of Mortlach.

Their daughter Helen married John Muiren Mather-Cluny, Mortlach, ancestor of the Myrons.
It took me some time to finally look at my family history book to see that our information matches. I can tell you that when svert and kari came to america they had the children; Halvor b1845, Anne b1847, Hans b1849, and Helge b1850. They also had the children George b1850s, Severt b1855, Tuston b1859, Ira b?, and Ingebor(Emma) b1863. A part of their cabin is in the state historical museum in Pierre. If your grandfaher is Hans Myron then you are one of Hans and Anna's 14 children. My grandmother was Phyllis Myron-Hanson. Her parents were Halvor and Karen Myron. Halvor and Hans were brothers. If you want to chat....let me know.

Karin Barfield
