Naas/Nash

My great grandfather was Ezra Ralph Nash (#902). He and his wife emigrated to the United States and changed their name to “Nash.” The family story was that they did this because everyone called them “Nash” and they got tired of it being mispronounced and decided to fight instead of switch!
Here are the missing pieces on our family:

The children of Ralph Naas (he was a custom automobile body builder at the Fisher Body Works) (died 1944) and Della Hirtle (died 1949):
•	Harold Ralph Nash born in Lynn, Massachusetts on July 2, 1899. He was the Vice President of Underground Operations for Detroit Edison. He lived in Lathrup Village, MI.
•	C. Paul Nash Born 1901.

Harold Nash married Virginia Lee Sharp (born November 5, 1909 in Newport News, VA) on January 1, 1929. Virginia died on October 14, 1994. Harold died on November 3, 1967.
•	Harold Ralph Nash Jr. born on July 14, 1933. He was a handyman. He lives in Lake Wales, FL
•	Richard Taylor Nash born on January 4, 1935. He was an award-winning high school teacher and was inducted into the Michigan Coaches Hall of Fame in 2001. He lives in Troy, MI.

Paul Nash died in 1954.

Harold Ralph Nash, Jr. married Elizabeth Shear
•	Harold Ralph Nash III “Randy”
•	Regina Elizabeth Nash

Richard Taylor Nash married Joyce Elaine Jansen (born March 6, 1936 in Royal Oak, MI) on August 18, 1956
•	Richard Mark Nash, born May 1, 1958 in Detroit, MI. He is an executive for Get Motivated Seminars. He lives in Orlando, FL.
•	Robin Michelle Nash, born December 21, 1966 in Pontiac, MI. She is a jewelry maker and homemaker. She lives in Royal Oak, MI.
•	Ross Mitchell Nash, born September 22, 1968 in Pontiac, MI. He is a computer engineer and manager. He lives in Tampa, FL.

Richard Mark Nash married Elizabeth Keller (born August 30, 1960 in Oak Ridge, TN) on June 21, 1980. He married Drusilla Randisi (born June 5, 1953 in Queens, NY) on July 31, 1999
•	Alexandra Caroline Nash (mother is Elizabeth Keller), born December 28, 1990 in Beech Groove, Indiana.

Robin Michelle Nash married Thomas Daniel Nichols (born on September, 22, 1967) on April 2, 1998
•	Trinity Jane Nichols born August 4, 2005 in Royal Oak, MI

Ross Mitchell Nash married Twanette Townsend (born Iowa City, IA August 26, 1970) on June 17, 1995
•	Kristina Ruth Nash born June 23, 1998 in St. Petersburg, FL
•	Mary Renee Nash born August 30, 2001 in Tampa, FL
•	David Richard Nash born December 22, 2004 in Tampa, FL
•	Sarah Rose Nash born January 1, 2007 in Tampa, FL
My name is also Elizabeth Naas. I've always been told I was named after a great ancestor of some sort. Oh, and I know that my family lived in Canada until WWI when my grandpa moved to the states to fight in the "War to End All Wars" I'm also looking for this person.

My great grandfathers name was Christ Fuesler. I have quite a bit of information about this family. His sons (my grandfather) grandsons (my father) etc, etc. The Dayton, OH thing and everything matches with what I was told as a child.

Lets talk,
Greg Fuesler

Henry was first married to her older sister Saloma in 1842 in St. Louis. She died shortly after giving birth to a daughter in 1850. In the same year Henry married Salena and had a family. Would love to correspond with you on this line.

Recently ran across your postings regarding your Naass family name. Do you, by any chance, have information on the Heitzmann name (Marie Salome Heitzmann Naass)? My Heitzmann family supposedly came from Baden Germany, but Alsace is close to southern Germany and there is always the possibility!? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Carol Gilbert

Haas Family of Dayton, OH

I am looking for info on unknown Haas, married ca 1910/11 in Dayton, OH to Catharine unknown, had children William Haas, born ca 1912, Richard H. born ca 1914, Marie E, ca 1916. Mr Haas died around 1916. By 1918 his widow Catharine Haas was remarried to Christ Fuesler. The draft registration Christ Fuesler filled out in 1918, listed they were living at 1108 Wayne Av, Dayton OH. This Fuesler and Haas, family are in the 1920 census Dayton- ward 9, district 172, with the three Haas children. The youngest daughter Clare is listed as Haas, but burial records show her as Clara Jane Fuesler, age 11 months. In the 1920 and 1930 census the Haas children listed, father was born Germany. I had heard that Mr Haas had been married before he married Catharine unknow, and may have been children by 1st wife. I know that Richard H was the son of Catharine. Thanks for any help on this family. Tina

Carolyn,
Where is Breitenbach? That is the big money question. When I use Mapquest or Google maps they show that Germany has 10 Breitenbachs. My Nasses put Breitenbach on their ship logs as the town they came from. Then on the US Censuses they say they are from H-D. I have found some old maps of H-D from the 1860’s and have compare them with the Breitenbachs of today and see which one falls in the land of H-D in the time frame that they lived there. From all that I believe Breitenbach, H-D is about 20 or 30 miles north east of Frankfort Germany in the mountains west of Fulda.

Joe Laufenberg

Joe, I have not come across a Naas family from Breitenbach in our search. Our Naases come from Asselbrunn and Bullau in H-D in 1884-87. Johann Christoph Naas who settled in Nova Scotia in 1752 came from the Palatinate. I have not heard from Rob in some time, but would love to find out more information about when his Naas ancestor came to the USA and what brought him to California. By the way, where is Breitenbach? If by some chance it is in the Alsace area, there is a Naas who came from there who settled in Indiana, or maybe Illinois.

Carolyn Naas

Elvina, do you know where your ancestors lived after leaving Prussia? My husband's family came from Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, in the late 1800's and settled in Ohio. There was a Naas who settled in Nova Scotia in the middle 1700's, and some of his descendants changed their spelling from Naas to Nass.

NAAS, FANNY

I recenty moved into a carraige house in East Hampton, CT and in the bathroom is a stained glass window that reads "In Memory of Fanny Naas 1882 - 1938". The carriage house belongs to the Burt family but I haven't had the chance to speak with them about it - the window could have come from anywhere around here. The landlord tends to salvage old things from buildings he buys. Are there any relatives in the CT area that may have know this woman? Just interested. I live on Lake Pocatapaug. Thank you.
Dear David,
I visited Sessenheim (Alsace, France) on 3 February 2000 and in the village hall I was able to see the birth record of my great-greatgrandfather Frederick Naas. He was born there in November 1818. It was signed by his father (my g g g grandfather Jacob Naas, at that time spelled Naass) I also saw the birth records for Frederick's brother Christian, and sister Salome (called Sally in the US) All records were signed by the registrar and their father. Their mother was Marie Salome Heitzmann Naass. Jacob had other children from his first marriage (she died) and he came to the America and settled in Southern Indiana in 1827. He came here with Frederick (born in 1818), Christian, and Salome and also with the youngest child from his first marriage, Jacob, jr. born in 1815. Some of this information is published in an old book (1905) I found in the Indiana State Library called Memoirs of the Lower Ohio Valley. There were a lot of Naas's who lived in that region of France. So who is your Frederick and what do you know. By the way, my Frederick joined the Union Army in the Civil War and died in 1864 while on active duty in an army hospital in Louisville of pneumonia. He is buried in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, in the civil war section. All the best to you.
Stephen Naas

Deanna, Your Anna Catherine Naas died Nov. 4, 1812. She was the daughter of Johann Christoph Naas who was born about 1728 in the Palatinate. Joh. Christoph came to Nova Scotia in 1753 and October 30, 1753 married Elizabeth Veronica Westhaver (1732 Germany-1820 NS). The only info I have on Anna Catherine is that she married Robert Lord in Lunenberg NS on June 1, 1783. I have Anna Catherine as the oldest child. This info came from Steve Naas, who wrote a book on the Naases of Nova Scotia. There are quite a few descendants doing genealogy. By the way, there is some mistaken information about the parents of Johann Christoph Naas. Someone assumed that a boy born in 1728 whose name was Christian Daniel Naas was the same person as Johann Christoph, however Christian Daniel died when a little boy.

Carolyn Naas

Cheryl, the William Naas Nova Scotia Naas website is: www.geocities.com/novas100/Index.htm. It is case sensitive.

However, the birthdate given at that website for Christoph Naas who came to N.S. in 1753 refers to another Naas who was born 9/8/1728 and died January 12, 1733, named Daniel Christian Naas who was the son of Johann Fridrich and Justina Naas. Somewhere along the line, Daniel Christian has been mixed up with Christoph Naas of Nova Scotia.

If you are related to a Naas from Nova Scotia, the chances are excellent that your ancestry can be traced back to Christoph Naas.

Good luck!

Carolyn Naas

Emma and her parents, Michael & mary Thiede can to America in late 1891 or early 1892, but I can not find anything on the Ellis Island site because I think they came a few months before Ellis Island opened. Also, the 1900 census shows that Mary's parents were living with them, however, we always thought her maiden name was Feltz, but her parent's last name is Schonfeldt. Thanks.
I see you corresponded with Carolyn Naas regarding the Naas family of Dayton, Ohio. I have a file of 1667 individuals, including all the identifiable descendents of the earliest Naas in Germany through about 1875, taken from the parish records of Michelstadt and other nearby parishes. I also have many descendents here in America, many from Carolyn Naas, some from Harlan Naas, and some from my own research of my own branch of tha family. My great-great-grandmother Anna Margaretha Naas was a cousin of your Peter Naas, and came to America and Dayton about the same time.
