Nabors Family tree

My grandpa was Robert Payne Nabors , Wife Johnnie C Smith. My grandpa's father George Benjamin Nabors was born Aug 09, 1849 in Benton, Lowndes, Alabama, His father was Benjamin F Nabors, born Mar 22, 1812 in Liberty, Pickens, SC and Died Jul 7, 1889 in Piedmont, Calhoun, AL. My grandfathers mother was Lundy Lou Kidd AKA (Sarol)? Plus he was marred once before Lundy. I went to Texas with my grandmother in 1965 and she was talking to a cousin of my grandfather by the name of Maxine. They were talking about how we were related to Jim Nabors. I remenber her saying he had 2 sisters. But being so young I did not write it all down. Just my grandpa and grandma up the thier garndparnet. How I wish I would of. I was wondering if you would know if my line is tangled in with your line of Nabors Family. I have been doing Ancestry for awhile, but I have been working on my Fathers Gallyer/Bishop, which came from England and my Mothers Nabors and Smiths, from SC to Texas. Also my Husbands Dean/Smith from Ok,Tx and Newsome/Sikes,Ok. When I get stuck on one I move to the others. I wish my grandfather lived longer so I could of picked his brain. I was the diamond of his eye and sure do miss them both. If you need more information form me you can reply on Post new threads or email me at Customfree@aol.com. Hoping to hear from you All.
I was so excited to see the pictures. I am Sharon Wilson Katona, the daughter of Audra Elizabeth Nabors Wilson. Mother had never seen the picture that you posted of my grandmother (Ella Robinson Nabors). Which one of Uncle Howard's girls is your Mother? I have some pictures that you might not have. One of them is of Uncle Howard in his army uniform. Another is of Uncle Howard, Aunt Ollie Belle and the four girls (Your mother and aunts) sitting on the grass. I printed the picture of my grandmother for my Mom, but I would love it if you could have 5 copies made from the original in 5X7 size. I would have them framed as surprises for my Mom, Aunt Odelle, and Aunt Reta. I would also love to have a copy of the John Womac Naish picture. Do you know any of the other people pictured or the date? Of course I would send you the money for the pictures and postage in advance. Let me know if you would like copies of the pictures that I mentioned.

I would also appreciate it if you would let me have your e-mail. My e-mail is swkbama@cox.net.
Thanks again for posting the pictures. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to see them.
Sue, here is a note from Judge Peters' records and from book on the Huguenots:
From the notes of Judge Joseph Peters at Shelby County Historical Museum: "During the persecution in France, three brothers, Abraham Isaac, and Jacob Nabors came from France and settled in Lawrence District, South Carolina. The Nabors family in Shelby County, James, Abram, and Lewis all came from Abraham nabors; Game Nabors came from the Isaac branch. The Jefferson county branch from the Jacob branch."
Note in book on French Huguenots:
"Abraham Voisin, prosecuted by the Goldsmith's Guild for working in bad silver in later 18th century, Dublin." I am descended from Arter Nabors, and his son John W. Nabors and Piety Leonard. Would be happy to exchange info.

Hello Laura, I am originally from Beaumont and still have lots of family there. As to your question, I had post a request of Ancestry Message board and someone sent me a copy of the Bolivar County Miss 1900 census which lists Maraget Lou (Nabors) Wiltshire place of birth as Ireland.

The 1900 lists what looks like Monie M born 1884. Was this your grandmother? And Carrie May born 1893 which was my aunt Robbie who lived in orange. I would appreciate a copy of death certificate of Monie. I was not aware of Monie Wiltshire. I will be happy to send you a copy of the 1900 census I have. Nice to find family. Wilkie was my grandfather who was very dear to me.
Charles, My name is Laura Dyess. I live in Vidor Texas. I am the grandaughter of Monie Eunice Wiltshire, sister of Wilkie. My e-mail is tcooper40@gt.rr.com. All the info I have on Margaret Loucretia Nabors states she was born in Mississippi. U S Censuses 1880, 1900, 1920, and 1930. I also have a copy of her death certificate which states place of birth as Mississippi, the informant on this document is W. Wiltshire (I believe Wilkie). Lou was the daughter of Joshua W Nabors and Jane Reed. Jane was born in Ireland. I went to your site and I am interested in any photos or documents you may have. Thanks Laura
Where did you get the info that Lou was born in Ireland?

Check out these web sites for DNA testing info

DNA testing has become an invaluable tool for genealogy, capable of solving some of the most vexing genealogy problems. In the last 6-8 years the technology has become practical, affordable, and productive. Its use has exploded to the point that there are now several thousand DNA/genealogy projects, most based on testing the y-DNA profile of male descendants who bear a similar surname (including variants).

Those of us researching our “Neighbours” roots, by whatever spelling (Neighbours, Neighbors, Nabours, Nabors, and Nabers), need to join together to launch a surname project utilizing y-DNA testing. The first way DNA testing for genealogy can be helpful is to provide conclusive evidence that two or more “Neighbours” descendants share a common ancestor. The technology can also provide an estimate of the timeframe in which the common ancestor probably lived. As an example, it is believed that Abraham and Isaac Neighbours, born in the 1740s, were the children of Abraham Neighbours (1694-1798) and Rebecca. If so, descendents of these lineages should show strong evidence of kinship through their y-DNA profiles. In addition, there are a number of other researchers who believe their lineages may trace to Abraham and Rebecca (through unidentified brothers of Abraham and Isaac). DNA testing could show whether these hypothesized relationships are at all likely. Equally valuable in some circumstances, DNA testing can provide strong evidence that two ancestors were not related, even though they share a common surname and lived in the same location during the same time. Sometimes, we can only move forward once we learn that the ancestor passed down by family tradition is not actually ours.

Interested in learning more about DNA testing for genealogy purposes? Here are several links that are worth exploring. In addition to the home web site, be sure to check out the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), Tutorials, and Projects.

http://www.familytreedna.com/Default.aspx?c=1

http://www.familytreedna.com/faq.aspx

http://www.familytreedna.com/genetic-genealogy-tutorials.asp...

http://www.familytreedna.com/projects.aspx

The benefits of DNA testing are obtainable only to the extent that several people submit test samples so the results can be compared. Before anyone orders a DNA test, let’s talk about organizing our efforts to create a Neighbours/Neighbors/Nabours/Nabors/Nabers surname project. That way, we can all benefit from this exciting new technology as many other genealogy researchers are already doing. Disclaimer – I am not affiliated with FTDNA in any way other that being a satisfied customer as a participant in the Glass Surname Project. My wife’s mother is a Nabers, and we will have to get one of her male cousins to supply a DNA sample for the project.

Dave Glass
Any interest in a dna study for the Nabors/Nabers/Neighbours Surname?

A number of y-dna surname projects have proven to be very valuable to genealogy researchers. Is there any interest in starting a project for tne various spellings of the Nabors surname? Only males who have a direct paternal lineage to a Nabors ancestor (by any spelling) can submit y-dna samples for such a study. My wife's mother is a Nabers so she can't submit dna, but she could get one of her male cousins to participate. It might just help us solve the mystery of exactly which or how many lines of Nabers descend from Abraham Neighbours, 1684-1798, (wife Rebecca) who is believed to be the first ancestor by that name in the US.
Any interest out there in starting a new project?

My wife is descended from Nathan Neighbors, 1794 and possibly William Neighbors who died in Newberry SC. We are trying to track down the leads from Abraham 1684-1798 to the several Abrahams and Nathan Neighbours who lived in the 1700s.
Aaron Nabors - Arkansas Civil War Soldier

For anyone interested,

The tornados that came through Atlanta Spring 2008 disinterred a soldier from Oakland Cemetery, identified as Aaron Nabors of Arkansas. The article is below, the Daughters of the Confederacy are considering a ceremony for reinterment.

******

The Atlanta Journal Constitution

Boy or man? Soldier still a mystery
Elusive origins: Archivists find it tricky to trace age, history of unearthed remains.

By Mark Davis
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 07/17/08

He may have been too young to shave when strangers buried him among fellow fighters, laid out so far from home in the red dirt of Georgia. We'll probably never know.

There isn't much left of the Civil War soldier whose remains came to light during the March 14 tornado that ripped through Atlanta's Oakland Cemetery —- just a stone, bearing his name, and the bones. Little is known of him, either.

He fought for an Arkansas regiment. He died in Atlanta in 1863. He was buried in one of the long rows where residents hastily interred the dead. He remained just one name among thousands, hardly worthy of notice, until archaeologists discovered slivers of his bones in the root ball of an oak upended in the tempest.

Now, historians at Oakland and in Arkansas wonder about Aaron Nabors, Company B, the Arkansas 25th Regiment.

"He's proved to be rather elusive," said Russell P. Baker, an archivist at the Arkansas History Commission.

Baker recently spent hours looking through records at the commission's offices in Little Rock, searching for information about the soldier buried at Oakland. The archives listed soldiers named Nabors, but they fought for different regiments, or returned home after the 1861-1865 conflict.

He came up with one name matching that chiseled on a piece of granite in Atlanta. That Aaron Nabors, when census-takers came to his house in 1860, was 14.

Oakland records say Nabors died at City Barracks Hospital Sept. 12, 1863. His cause of death is not listed.

If the boy in 1860 is the dead soldier in 1863, he was 16 or 17 at death.

"That wouldn't surprise me," said Kevin Kuharic, Oakland's director of restoration and landscapes. Kuharic is helping oversee the cemetery's restoration, a multimillion-dollar effort that involves repairing tombstones and carting away tons of downed tree limbs. As part of the restoration, Oakland plans to ask clergy to "rebless" the tract where obelisks fell and stone angels lost their wings. That ceremony hasn't been scheduled.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy is interested in participating, said Jane Durden of Swainsboro. She is a member of the Emanuel Rangers Chapter No. 2318 and the former president of the Georgia UDC division. Seventy-two UDC chapters comprise the state organization. She thinks Nabors' remains should be reinterred with some sort of ceremony, but she isn't sure what type.

"Rarely do we do reinterments," she said. "There has been no call for them."

Not until this year, when the remains of a man came to light. Or was it a boy?
I am helping a coworker with her Nabors family from Mississippi. This is what she is looking for:
Pensacola Nabors married Margaret Watson. They had Thomas Nabors who married Heneretta Echolas. They had her father who was Eddie Lee Nabors. Eddie was born in 1939 and has since died. If any of these names are familiar please let me know. Thanks.
