I am working on a Nese family tree for my husband. His great grandfather was Angelo Nese of East Pittsburgh, PA. His siblings were: Anthony (Antonio), Grace (Grazia), Concetta, Helena, Philomena (Filomena), Joseph, Louis and Giovanina. Their father is believed to a Guiseppe (Giuseppe) Nese and wife Rosario. They came from Fogna,, Italy which at times I have seen as Foggia and other geographic spots Laurino (Lorino) and Salerno. Concetta was born Oct 28, 1883 in Italy. According to the 1920 census she immigrated here at age 18 in 1901. You can email me at gwen.nese@comcast.net to discuss more details. Also, I have questions about Walston.

I believe more details of your grandfather would be helpful.
What was his date of death? When & where was he born? Where did he live?

Social Security death records show (1) George W. Nace, born 2 Jun 1920 died 28 Mar 2008 Richfield, Juniata, Pennsylvania
and (2) George W. Nace born 18 Feb 1947 died 29 Jul 2010 Highland, Ulster, New York.

In my Nase Family tree, I do not yet have your grandfather but I'm pretty sure we could find some connection.
Almost all of the various spellings of Nace descend from from Mathias Nehs (1673-1741) who immigrated to Philadelphia in 1731.

Jeff Nase

Hi! I am probally distantly related since all of my family is also from Paducah! I do not recognize the name, however, my grandfather, William Murrell Nace (married Lucille Green Nace) had many siblings! It seems I do vaguely remember a cousin of my fathers named Laura, who died in a car accident I believe on her way to Paducah when I was a young teenager.

My great great grandfather is John Aaron Nace, but so far I have not been able to document which John A Nace. There is one that was born in Germany, and then Naturalized a US citizen in Oct 1868. Further, the 1920 Census taken in Paducah lists the mother of Jms Wm Nace as having a German Tongue.

Hello cousin!
Actually, my father, Donald Kenneth "Ken" is your first cousin. I am Lucy Nace Burkhalter and live in Memphis. I have some questions regarding John Aaron Nace and Mary Elizabeth Guest or Gist(?) The 1920 Census shows Jms Wm (Will) Nace's mother's Native Tongue as German.

Also, I found records of a John A Nace born in Germany, and naturalized a US Citizen in Oct 1868. However, another person's tree shows John A Nace as being born in KY, I believe Livingston County. What do you know about John Aaron Nace?

You can reply directly to my email: ACELACE@COMCAST.NET.
Thanks

Claremont,California Courier newspaper Friday Jan 1st 1932 on page 7.
TWO GENEROUS PEOPLE PROVIDE SUMPTUOUS DINNER FOR TRAMPS
An unusually charitable act was observed last week when R.J.Nace of Claremont Lumber Company with the assistance of his wife, put on a bountiful Christmas feed for about 10 floaters who had taken shelter from the rain in empty reefers near the Claremont railroad tower.
Mr and Mrs Nace brought a sumptuous repast from their home in Pomona, spread it on an improvised table and told the men to go to work on it. Again on Saturday Mr and Mrs Nace brought up bacon, canned goods and portable food for the men who were unfortunate enough not to have or be at home for the Christmas holidays.
On the beautifully sunny Sunday which followed Christmas day, the two generous people put on another feed of baked beans, roast pork, and all the accessories for 10 more itinerants who had stopped in Claremont.
One of the men was taken to the Nace home in Pomona and given a place to sleep Sunday night. He was a young man out of work and Mr.Nace gave him employment about the yard, and house while at the same time looking out for other work for him.

1930 census at 741 East Mountain Rd in Pomona,California: Robert J.Nace age 56 born in Penn, accountant lumber company
wife Alta M. age 39 born in Texas, labor tile factory
dau Claire 14 born in Texas
dau Slyvia M.9 born in Arizona

1920 census in Morenci Arizona Robert J.Nace is 46 his wife Altra 30 and dau Clare F. age 5.

I am looking for information on Charles H. Nace and his wife Charlotte Nace Smith. They are my fathers aunt and uncle. My dad lost touch with them around the year 2000 when they were living in Lake Placid Florida. I found them both listed in the SSDI with a death date of April 21, 2001 in Sebring Florida? I can find no further info about their deaths, no obituaries, not in newspaper archives, not in find a grave, etc...

Any suggestions or info would be appreciated.

That is not what I am looking for it... I recently found that Charles' parents were John and Mary. However, Charles was with his mother, Mary, and his brother, Robert, in Census Record 1880. It was in Fincastle or Buchanan, Botetourt County, Virginia. I couldn't find more information on his parents go that far. I only have his mother who was Mary Nace. Mary Nace born in 1830 which it showed in Census Record 1880. I looked up on http://www.familysearch.org

A look at census records may have produced a possible direction for you to search for your Nace.

1870 Salem, Culpeper, VA
Elizah 35
Mariah 40
Harriet 13
Minna 11
Charles 9
Edmonia 6
George 5

Robert would have been born a year after the census.
The older girls may have been married off. If Elizah died Charles would have been expected to care for his mother and younger siblings. Its possible the yournger girls had been farmed out or died of illness around the time of Elizah as illness were still pretty fatal and usually took outmore than one family member in those days.

The race here shows as mulatto. The next generation would have been given as white if they were light enough to pass.
I have come across some families in census records where the darker children were given as mulatto and the lighter skined as white.

The Virginia slaves were also mixed for many generation with the local native tribes. Any mix was noted as mulatto.
When slave owner began to release thier slaves from bondage, some prior to the war they would of course head north or west where it was thought to be safer.

I just helped a friend find his Virginia roots, So this train of thought comes from research.

There was a slave owner named Elizah Nuck in Accomac Co, VA. Perhaps Elizah was the son of the plantaion owner and his last name a variation.? Worth looking into?

Yes this does look promising. The earlest record I have of a Nace is a Pierre Nace who came to Colonial America in 1700 aboard the Mary & Ann with a wife and two daughters. They were Hugeonot refugees. He would have had to have had a son for there to be a connection. In 1700 he would have been at mid life so the son would probably be born shortly after arriving in America. Lets say 1705, his son would be born lets guess 1720. I haven't been able to find many records that go back that far.

I took a look at my Nace line and found what may be a possible place for you to search.
Your George may be the son of Michael Ness/Nace (died 5 Dec 1760 in PA) an Margaret Zirkle. They had a son Adam born 4 Sept 1740 in Lancaster Co., PA. His oldest sons names thier first born sons George.
I have no other records of children for Michael & Margaret.
Some of this family settled in Shrewsbury right close to the Maryland line. The early records are found naturally in Maytown,Lancaster Co.,

I have a lot of information on the Virginia Nace's and some on the Maryland Nace's but I am stuck on a George Nace who died in 1810 in Maryland. He was married to a woman named Mary and fought in the Rev War on the PA Line. I would assume he originated in PA and after the war he was given a plot of land in Maryland. Do you have any information on a George Nace who married a Mary around mid 1700's?
my email is pat.nace@zimmer.com

I too descend from George Washington Nace. All I know is he died after 1910. I located a record on the York Co Archives site for a George H Nace age 95 who died 3-22-1918 in Lower Windsor, Doing the math it makes him born in 1827. Same year as our G.W. Nace

I have not been able to locate a place of interment. Its possible he was buried at St Lukes in Chanceford Twp or Salem Reformed in Craley, Lower Windsor.
He had nothing at that point and by 1910 was living with his daughter Susan (Nace) Weaver and husband.

Melissa Hake Fitzkee
