My father was Arlo D. Nafus. You have his siblings correct. Roscoe was born 11/28/11, Erma was born 9/16/13, Arlo was 3/16/16, Edward was 12/19/17, and Ethel was born 8/26/21. All of these siblings are deceased. The father, Edward Nafus, died in North Dakota when the kids were little. Mary Camp Nafus moved to Kelso, Washington and married William Orner. They had one daughter, Harriet Orner, who lives in Portland, Oregon. I live in Eugene, Oregon. How do you know about this family? Sorry it took so long for me to come across your message.

I have been searching for relatives in PA for ages, my g-grandfather was George Henry Nafus, born Oct. l8,1850, he was the son of Joel Nafus and Mary Labarre. He had 6 other siblings: Jake, Merritt, Ettie(Ester), Frances, Charles, and Newton (spelled Nutin on records). He died on Jan. 31, 1933 and lived on Kidder St in Wilkes-Barre. His daughter was Dora Fitzgerald - still looking for more info - can you connect this at all to what you have on George? The birthdate is the same.

this is so bizarre i can't believe it! You are my fathers brother... his name is Edward Simon, named after his dad, of course. My mom is June. I cannot believe this has happened but am very glad it did. I have been searching in records for Cherokee background - thought the last name may have been misspelled due to the fact neither of them wrote english (Joel or George) I have checked the spelling of Naves but have only started. I have Civil War records from both Joel and George which helped me a bit, but still have a difficult time proceeding with anything. Do you know anything about the Cherokee heritage? Gifford William Nafus my brother was born in Great Falls, Montana Feb.3rd, 1945. His mothers name was Ella Belle Rodgers (Nafus).

Does Marcene J Nafus have any brothers? I'm looking for the father of Jonathan Nafus, born in 1825 presumably in Luzerne County, PA. Jonathan was married to Louisa Stout, who died in Ransom Township, Luzerne Co. in 1869. Their son, Edward, was my grandfather. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Inspired by an article in "Rootsweb Review" about tracking down families of orphan artifacts, I was reading through message board entries including the name "Nafus". When I read your reply to a query I thought you would be the perfect one to contact.

I have an old photo of an Edgar Nafus. The notes on the back say that he was married to Martha Anderson, sister of my ancestor Zerilda Anderson Windham. The 1900 census lists Edgar E & Martha L Nafus living in Detroit with two children, Mary G & Carl K. Per the census they were all born in Ohio.

I would be happy to send the photo to a descendent of Edgar & Martha since he isn't a direct ancestor of mine. The photo, which is in pretty good condition, shows an older gentleman sitting in an elaborately carved chair.
