Yes .... .lots of intermarriages over there. Regarding the names you mentioned: my great grandmother was a Kelecic on father's side, my grandmother on mother's side was Catherine (Katerina) Novosel (came to this country), and my mother's first husband was Marko Terihay. In addition, one of my Shilobod relatives married a Terihay in Croatia, so there is a Terihay in Croatia related to me(whom I visited when I was there in 2001). I'll have to figure out who this Anna Sillobad is who married a Gollubich. Regarding the Naglich who came over on the ship with my dad, here is the info I got from the Ellis Island ship manifest: The ship is the Vaderland and arrived in March 1910. They have his name as Josip Naglie, but my dad always pronounced it "Naglich", so I think that the "e" at the end of the name is a typo and should have been a "c". It says that he was 27 years old and was from Klake and was on his way to his cousin's place at 666 Gardner Street, Chicago, Ill. (So that would mean he was born around 1883?) I couldn't read the cousin's name very well, but it looks like Barb Ojuya. You can see this if you go on the Ellis Island web site and do an advanced search where you give the ship's name and year of arrival. Good luck. Who knows ... maybe we're related!!!!

Yep, I'm quite sure he's mine, but I'm not sure WHICH one of mine! Ha - that's how it is with this family - lots and lots of them, many with the same name so it's tough to identify exactly who's who. I have a few Josip Naglic/chs that came to the US. My first thought is that this is my great grand uncle Josip who settled in PA (Sharon PA, near Pittsburgh - I have lots of Naglics there and throughout Beaver Co., actually). The dates don't quite match up, though (he was born in 1869 rather than the 1882/3 that the manifest would indicate...I'm not sure that a 41 yr old man would be such a good friend w/an 18 yr old, but it is possible that the reported age on the manifest is incorrect. It's more likely, though, that this was actually my 2nd cousin 3x removed Joso Naglich, or the similarly-related Mijo (who went by other names as well). All of these were from Klake/Sv Martin.

I"ve run into other Silobods in my research in Sv Martin as well - maybe someone of yours?

I have an Ivan Baptist Gollubich married to an Anna Sillobad, had a daughter Mariane on 07 Apr 1796. Ivan is a relative of my 4th great-grandmother, Barbara Gollubich.

I have other major names from Sv Martin - check these to see if any ring a bell (LOTS of intermarriages in that region):
Slamar/Szlamar
Gollubich/Gollubic
Kelecic/Kellechic/Kellechich
Chabrianecz/Cabrenec
Kirin
Goricki
Novosel
Terihaj

I'm sure our ancestros were friends both on the boat and back home for generations - nice to know you!!! :)
Re: Naglic family from Sveti Martin Pod Okicem, Croatia

My father Vinko (Vincent) Silobod sailed to America in 1910 and his boat companion was another young man named with the surname Naglich. My dad was from Sv. Martin pod Okicem also. My father talked about their adventures on the boat and referred to Naglich as "my friend". The ship was called the Vaderland and they sailed from Belgium (Antwerp). When they arrived at Ellis Island, they went their separate ways. I think Naglic went to Ohio, but my Dad went to the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area. I looked up the ship's manifest on the Ellis Island web site and sure enough there is my Dad's name, and right next to his name is the name of Naglic. So they left the boat together. I've always wanted to make contact with the relatives of this Naglich who accompanied my dad on his trip to America. Maybe this Naglich was related to you? Would be interested in finding out.

Marlene (Shilobod) Richter

Have been reading these messages with interest. Carrie, I know you have had conversation with my mother, Ann Klikus -maiden name Anna Marie Naglich. As you should know your Dad, Frank, was my uncle. Dana, I am assuming you are Dana Mae. You were just a baby when I last saw you. If I recall there was Donna, Dorthey, Darlene and you, can't remember it there was more at that time. Just know you mother was Carol (Young).

Can't fill in more than what seems to be written other than I know Grandpa (Matt) came to the USA in 1911 when he was thirteen years old. Grandma came when she was 16. Grandpa's ship docked in West Virginia - where he went from there I don't know.

The only living family member who may be able to fill in some blanks, as you know Carrie, is my mother. Her address in La Veta Colorado, is Ann Klikus, 1769 County Road, Box 430, La Veta, Colorado, 81055. Her phone number is 719-742-3307. If someone should try to call her and ask questions - she is hard of hearing so bear with her.

Keep me informed, thanks.

My grandfather was married previously, but I don't know her name. I'm trying to fill in the family tree. Would appreciate any information. Thanks!

I am searching for the parents of Louis Naglich, who came to America in 1921. His parents are George Naglic(h) and Anna Bacurin (according to his SS application). I can find nothing on either of them but I know he had brothers in Yugoslavia because I remember him speaking of one coming to visit him. He originally came to PA, where he married Dora Yonkovich. They moved to Detroit, MI and then retired to St.Petersburg, FL, where they both died. They have to sons, George and Frank. Does anyone have any information that could help me? Please contact me by e-mail. Thank you.

My dad's name was Frank Naglich. His brother was named Joseph but he died at like 17 or 18. He was in the military and got shot down in an airplane. My grandparents names were Matt Naglich and Anna Pavelic. You might want to ask your parents if they are of any relation. I know when they lived in Croatia, the Naglichs' were sheep farmers and the Pavelics were Bakery owners or it may be the other way around, anyways, let me know what you find out.
