Re: Ananias Nason, ENG, f/o John Nason (1577) m. Elizabeth Rogers 1600

Another Cousin here. My line took a strange twist in Maine.
I follow:
Ananias (Nassone) NASON & Ursula RODGERS
John NASON & Elisabeth ROGERS
Richard NASON & Sarah BAKER - England to Kittery, York, ME
Richard NASON & Susan (Shuah Colcord) CALQUET

Here is where it gets a bit strange. They had a son born 1682 South Berwick, York, Maine. A number of sources including http://www.jedh.com/src/genealogy/Full07a-p/p269.htm#i13409 indicate that his father was killed in about 1690. It eas not uncommon for the French and Abnaki Indians to abduct people and sometimes sell them of as slaves. Their son was about 8 or 9 when there was a raid near Sturgeon Creek where the Nason family lived. Richard was killed (one account says killed in his doorway). Their son was taken and grew up in St.Francois-du-Lac Quebec, Canada. He was baptised there with the name Jacques Ritchot. His birth parents were listed on this baptism and his mothers name was written as Suzanne Calquet. The last name Ritchot came from the translation of his birth father's name of Richard. He was said to have been raised by the Crevier family. I do have a copy of the Baptism record and Susanne Calquet is indeed listed on it. Jacques went on to marry Elisabeth Dubois-dit-Brisebois (first generation Canadian)
and our family line then turns French Canadian!

Jacques RITCHOT & Elisabeth/Elisa Marie (dit Brisebois) DuBOIS
Marguerite RITCHOT & Antoine Joseph BIBEAU
Marie Marguerite Ann BIBEAU and Jacques LANDRY (Acadian descent)
Francois Xavier LANDRY & Anne Marie JANELLE
Joseph LANDRY & Esther (Ester) MANSEAU (came down to Green Bay Wisconsin in the 1840's
Francois Xavier LANDRY & Marie Katherine (Kate) BIBEAU
Hubert Joseph LONDRE & Hosanna (Rose) VENNE
Melva Rose LONDRE & Richard Joseph BLAHNIK
Bette Jane Rose BLAHNIK & Deane Ellsworth Spilman (my parents, now both deceased)
Rather a long and strange journey. Interestingly enough, I went to Maine a few years ago. My husband and I like to hike and we found a park next to the Hamilton House. Vaughn Park is right by Hamilton House and Salmon Falls is right there. We took some photos and later I found out that I was standing on the property of my ancestor Richard Nason. It is shown on a Berwick map 1631-1700 along the Newichawannock River. It would seem that the beginning portion of Vaughn Park was once owned by Richard Nason. Perhaps that is where he died in the raid from the French and Abenaki.
I also found the will of Richard Nason, husband of Sarah BAKER that died March 15, 1695/96 in Kittery. ME. Sarah Baker seems to have had a first husband named Nicholas Follets

Not sure you received it, as I have had no reply.

As you noted in your posting, the trees online are anything but accurate.

IN looking at several trees for John Nason, son of Lemuel and husband of Martha DeWitt, there is something very confusing about the children listed. In many trees they have a long list of children some of which are born before the parents. In others, there are children born when Martha is more than 50 years old. Particularly Haywwod Nason, born about 1849 when Martha was 46. Does anyone really have the children of Martha and John Nason

Thank you for your help though I am sure the other researcher will be definately pleased.

My Nason is Charles Henry Nason from NH he came to charles town Suffolk Co, Mass and died. Two of his children went to Essex county one to Amesbury and the other to Salisbury (they lived on the boarderline between the two cities).

Charles Henry Nason is a plentiful name in NH, and it will be difficult to trace. Here in Essex Co, the name spelling was changed to NAYSON.

Thanks anyhow

When did your Charles Henry make his move? I'm curious as to whether there is a relation there. And incidentally, does the name Seward or Sewell mean anything in your research? On the back of one of our photos the name is written as William Henry Seward Nason. It throws me for a loop still.

I've tried on RootsWeb, but didn't have any luck on there. Granted, that was two years ago. I haven't been able to research in a long time. I may have to go look again, but I have no names to search prior to 1850. No one knows who the line goes back through.

This is a reply to both jalfisher and carmen...

I probably can help jalfischer with the NH-MA Nason issues, but will need some more specific info to work with. I can say it is not likely your line is connected to James L. Nason.

Carmen - you will recall I provided you with considerable info on James L and his descendants in the past. I have not been able to find anything new on his parents since then. W.H.S. Nason, born in 1858, was most likely named for William Henry Seward, who was a prominent politician and statesman during that period - he was a rival of Lincoln for the 1860 Republican presidential nomination, and later was Lincoln's Sec. of State. While Sewell is an old New England surname, the particular combination of names makes it more likely Nason was named for the politician.

In the 1881 census of Canada, there is a household at Gladstone, Sunbury County, NB headed by William Nason that has a son Temple Nason, age 21, and a son Charles Nason, age 14. This is the same age difference as the William T. and Charles Nason living at Haynesville, Maine, in the 1900 census, and also is consistent with the birth years given in the 1900 census.

The family at Gladstone can be found in the LDS database, familysearch.org, by searching for Temple Nason, born in New Brunswick, Canada about 1860.

My Naysons, Nason go beck to 1740. They emmigrated from New Hampshire to suffplk Co, Massachusetts. Charles Henry Nason died and his widow remarried. A son went to the new Plantation "Cholester" (became Newbury, Essex Co, Massachusetts. a daughter married in Ipswich, Essex Co, Massachutes (about 14 miles away) Then I lost track as the Nasons, Naysons apparently moved or else was in a suburb settlement that did not comply with recording vital records.

Go back to Roots web world connect. There have been many changes in the past two years. And try the SEARCHFAMILY.org site(lots or errors from well meaning TREE CHASERS.....but at least they provide leads to check up on.

Happy hunting

Roots web world connect has many many Nasons that go back to the 1500s. They came from England to Kennybunk Plantation circa 1610 (Area is now Maine state, USA and New Hampshire state USA)

My line was Charles Henry Nason, when he left NH and came to Essex Co, Massachusetts, his name was spelled Nayson and so are his descents in Amesbury Essex Co, Mass

Mary Charlotte Nason, b.Ire, md Robert D. Campion, Cork, Ire.

I am interested in the Nason surname in the vicinity of the city of Cork, Co. Cork, Ireland. My Kemp/Frith ancestors were married by the Rev. Thomas Spread Campion in 1793 at St. Peter's Church (Catholic) in Cork city. They named a daughter Jane NASON Kemp in 1803.

Rev. Thomas Campion married Anne Johnstone in 1801 in Cork and had a son, Robert Deane Campion, about 1802. He married a Mary Charlotte Nason and died in 1876 in Knockmourne, Co. Cork, according to a family tree on OneWorldTree, Ancestry.com. There is no information on his wife, Mary Charlotte Nason. I am wondering if there was a family connection between the Nasons, Kemps or Friths, to explain the middle name of the Kemp/Frith daughter.

Anyone have this family in their records? Any Nason families from Co. Cork?

If so, I'm from that family, "Temp" was my gg-father, and I'd love to exchange notes.

There is a site called Nason.com that totally confused me (I'm new at this) and e-mailed them, but so far no reply. Per my mother, Rosie Nason, Temp and Elizabeth as well as Leo Elmer and his wife Emmaline Mulligan Spaulding Nason are buried in Haynesville, probably Riverside.

Also per my mother, Temp Nason came from Canada, where in Canada is unknown. Nason is french, so could be Quebec, but also New Brunswick.

My ex husband was a Nason but always went by his stepdads last name of Smith (Which is on my daughter birth cert). But by blood she is a Nason. I am researching herside of the tree so she knows where her family is from. My daughter was born in Wuerzburg, Germany. I also have Richard Nason DOB 03 Aug 1606 (Stratford-on-Avon) in my tree. I just started a few weeks ago on the Nason's. My daughters great uncle has a web site called Nason.net that has some of the family tree on there.

You are right Chasedw...I have the same information as well. I have Temple Nason (by the way, my Grandmother was a Nason) son of William Nason and Maria Wires. Then I have the parents of the fore-mentioned William Nason as Lemuel Nason and Annie Dunlap. All from New Brunswick, Canada. Does this match up to what you have?

As to Temple Nason. I believe our direct common ancestor would be Richard Nason and Sarah Baker which goes back pretty far to the 1600's. Richard and Sarah's son John
(b. 1640?) is who I'm descended from and Temple is descended from John's brother Baker Nason (b. abt. 1844). At least that is what I have in my notes. I could be wrong it wouldn't be the first time.
Rae

My Grandmother was Phyllis Helen Nason b.1912 (Boston, MA) d.1979 She married Fred Earl Trine and they had 5 children.

Fred Nason Trine
Helen Lulu Trine
Carol Louise Trine
Phillip E. Trine
John Leland Trine (my Dad)

Phyllis' Father was George Blake Nason b. 1874 d.1930 He was born in Chelsea, MA. He married Helen Alice Hocking.

George's Father was Charles Edwin Nason b. 1843 in Berwick, Maine. He married Helen A. Dunning.

Charles' Father was John Nason b. 1819 in Acton, Maine. He married Clarissa Gale.

John's Father was Richard Nason b. 1785 in Shapleigh, Maine. He married Mary Hussey.

Richard's Father was Moses Nason b. ~1740 in South Berwick, Maine. He married Lucy Tibbetts.

Moses' Father was Richard Nason b. ~1690 and married to Mercy Ham.

Richard's Father was John Nason b. ~1640 in Maine. He married Hannah Heard and Bridget Weymouth (my line).

John's Father was Richard Nason b. ~1606 in England and married to Sarah Baker.

I believe Richard's Father was John Nason of Welbourne, England and his Father most likely Ananias Nassone born in England..but I don't proof.

Rae

I have a Cork Co. Nason ancestor, but I don't know much about her. Ann Nason married Patrick Wilmott in Cloyne Parish, Cork Co. in 1794. The witnesses were James Sisk and Ann Byrne. Their parents names were not listed so I don't know what Nason family she belongs to.

She has several children in Aghada Parish, Cork Co. in the early 1800's.
