Joseph Neal Queens, NY

Hello everyone. My name is Shanae Brown, and I am hoping to be reconnected with my father's (Joseph Neal) family. He is of Black and Native American decent, passed away between the years of 1984-1989 and lived in Hollis Queens. I never had the opportunity to me him, and never had the opportunity to meet his family. My mom has told me nothing but great things about him. I am now 25 years old, the only child of both mother and father. At this point in my life I feel I should take matters into my own hands. That way I can know if this chapter in my life will be written or closed. If any one can help I truly appreciate.

"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

All the best,
Shanae

Bob Neal of Arkansas, born in Mississippi

Bob Neal is his full name. I can find him on only the 1930 census so it's hard to find his parents.

Bob Neal b: 4 July 1891 in "Mississippi, Miss."
lived in Arkadelphia, Clark Co, Arkansas in 1930
died in Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1970
m: Ruby, b: abt 1907 (she and her parents are from Arkansas)
had a daughter, name unknown
had a sister, name unknown
son Floyd lived in Tuscon, Arizona 1980s (died 1989?)
Father is from North Carolina
Mother is from Mississippi

Mississippi City is near Gulfport and 100 miles to the northwest is McComb, Mississippi where in 1910 I find this family who had lived in Arkadelphia in 1900:

A A Neal b: Aug 1867 in North Carolina
m: Octavia b: Jun 1871 in North Carolina
lived in McComb, Pike Co, MS 1900
married in 1895 so if A A is Bob Neal's father, then he had a first wife before Octavia.

A A died before 1910, then Octavia lived with her children in Tipton and Humboldt, Tessessee. Her children are

Clarence b: Dec 1895
Lottie b: Sep 1897
Althea b: 1901, m: James W Morgan

Information before 1900 on this family is eluding me. If anyone has a clue on any of the people mentioned above, please let me know.

Bob Neal was an inventor as well as a shoemaker.

Scott Robertson
Neals in southeastern PA: William, Joseph, Nettie

Looking for information on Neals who lived in the Chester County/Delaware County area of PA. Here's what I have:

1870 Census

William Neal, 42, brick mason
Hannah, 40
Joseph, 19
Benjamin, 12
John 8.
Ruth, 4

1880 Census

William Neal, 49, brick mason
Hannah, 47
Benjamin, 31
John, 19
Ruthann, 14
William, 8
George, 23 (nephew)

The ages vary from 1870 to 1880 for some of the family members, but I do believe this is the same family. My question is about Joseph, who does not appear in the 1880 census as living with the family. However, there is a Joseph Neal in the same census:

Joseph Neal, 27, laborer [the 1900 census lists him as brick layer]
Clara, 26
Janette, 2 months

Can anyone tell me if this Joseph is the son of William (above) and is Janette the birth name of Nettie Neal who married William J. Campbell?

I'm looking for any info on my great great grandmother Sarah Neal. All I know is that she had a son (my great grandfather) Alfred Neal Bennington in Lincolnshire England in 1860. Her husband was William Bennington, also of England. My great grandfather Alfred Neal Bennington came to the USA and married an American. Sarah Henrietta McCord. My USA tree goes way back, however I am trying to locate any relatives directly from Sarah Neal. Thanks!

Eugene P. Neal Obituary

I found an obituary for Eugene P. Neal, Fannie Miller's husband.
(Fannie Miller was d/o W.T. & Eda Miller)

Found in "The Hartford Herald", Hartford, Ky.,
dated March 30, 1904:

Mr. E. P. Neal died at his home at
Prentis last Thursday afternoon, after a
lingering illness, of consumption. His
remains were interred in the Turns
burying grounds, near his residence.
Mr. Neal and his family were formerly
residents of Hartford, but his health
having failed, he moved to his farm,
hoping for recovery. He was one of the
best and most popular attorneys at the
Ohio county bar. His deep learning
and legal accomplishments were noted
by all with whom he came in contact.
His memory for dates was remarkable,
and he enjoyed a wide fund of general
information. He leaves a widow and
three little sons to mourn his loss. He
was one of the county’s best citizens,
and his demise will be regretted by all.

Hope this helps someone,
David M. Myers

John George Neal New Zealand

Can anyone help me? I've hit a brick wall trying to find John George Neal.

What I do know is that he was born around 1865 in Middlesex, England. In 1885/6 he married Eliza Jane Byrom in Redfern Sydney, though I believe he may have arrived in Australia via Melborne as he is not showing up on the NSW records. He was living in the home of James and Hannah Neal in Elizabeth Street, Redfern, Sydney when he was married. He had 3 sons in Sydney- William and Thomas (1891) survived before moving his family over to Waiwera then Mangaweka New Zealand. He died in 1919 in New Zealand.

I believe James may have been his uncle and it possible he had more family in Australia and may have even travelled to Australia with family. He must have travelled between 1865 and 1885, probably between 1880-1884. He left Australia after 1891 (1891-1895ish).

The marriage certificate states that his parents are John and Sarah but no records seem to match a John being born to John and Sarah in Middlesex at this time so he may have got one or both of his parents names wrong due to early deaths.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

By now you probably have the information that you were seeking, but in case you are still looking. The parents of Robert Edgar Neal were Pleasant Brown Neal and Martha Jane "Mollie" Stevenson. They were both born in KY and died in Charlotte, Atascosa Co., TX. If you have any info about Pleasant, I have been looking for his parents for years.

Karen Storms
