Surnames: Neblett Torrence Hardy Green Chappell
I am related to the Nebletts through the Covington Hardy (d. 1814) family of Whitehall Plantation, Lunenburg County, Virginia. I am descended from Covington Hardy's second son Charles Hardy (1772-1830) through my grandmother, Julia Chappell Hardy (1878-1917) and her father, my great-grandfather Luther Chappell Hardy (1843-1900). Charles Hardy married (2nd in 1804)) Sally Jordon Green (1783-1862), also of Lunenburg County. Charles and Sally's son Jordan Robert Hardy (1811-1897) married Anne Elizabeth Love.
Covington Hardy's fifth son Henry Hardy (b. 1783) married (June 11, 1812) Mary Sterling Neblett, daughter of Sterling Neblett (1753-1832) and Mary Chappell, all of Lunenburg County.
I am interested in the descendants of Elizabeth Green Neblett (b. 1892) of Lunenburg County who was the daughter of Dr. Norman Henry Neblett (b. March 12, 1863) of Inglewood, Lunenburg County, and Lillian Henry Hite, daughter of Dr. Benjamin Haynie Hite.
Elizabeth Green Neblett was also the sister of Rosa Cabell Hite who married William Edwin Neblett. Elizabeth Green Neblett married (Aug. 12, 1912) William Clayton Torrence (b. June 7, 1884) of Georgia, who was bibliographer of the Virginia State Library (1906-1910), Secretary of the Valentine Meuseum in Richmond (1910-1918), and later an Episcopal Priest (ordained 1921), serving numerous parishes in Virginia and Maryland, last as Rector of St. John's church, Mt. Washington, Baltimore, Maryland. My first home as a child was two doors down Clay Street from the Valentine Musuem in Richmond.
William Clayton Torrence and Elizabeth Green Neblett had three children as follows:
William Clayton Torrence, born August 17, 1913 in Chesterfield County, Virginia
Elizabeth Green Neblett Torrence, born August 24, 1916 in Chesterfield County, Virginia
Norman Macfarland Torrence, born September 3, 1922 at Front Royal, Warren County, Virginia
I would be most in the descendents of these three Torrence children.
