She was 28, he was 37 at the time of their marriage. They resided at 410 Colorado Avenue 1911-12-13 in Cripple Creek.
Re: Oscar Neese, WWI Vet. receives Purple Heart, Mobile, AL 1933

I believe this Oscar Neese is Oscar Franklin Neese (1898-1962), s/o James Franklin Neese (1873-1940) and Laura Elizabeth Broom (1880-1943) of Mobile, Alabama. He married Bessie Spicer (1901 -?) and had one son, then married Ethel Mae Waltman (1905-1984) and they had 5 children. James was the s/o Jacob Franklin Neese (1854-1895) and Harriet Adams (1855-abt. 1880), and Jacob was the son of Davis Neese (1804-bef 1880) and Margaret Neese (a cousin, 1815- aft. 1880). Davis & Margaret had an older son named John Thomas Neese (1833-1924), Jacob's older brother, and it is from John Thomas that my family is descended. I am interested in any information available on Davis & Margaret Neese, and John Thomas Neese, and would appreciate any assistance in this area. Thanks!

William Grant Neese was the son of Wayman Leftridge Neese and Eliza Umberger. Wayman was a brother of George Jackson Neese who was the father of George Hermes Neese who was the father of Felix. I did not have any children from his first marriage to Lizzie Blankenship, but have 1 child from his second marriage and 3 children from his third marriage. My line is from another brother to Wayman and Jack, David Crockett Neese who was my great-grandfather. I have considerable information on the Neese family which I have collected over the years. One couple who helped me was Paul and Sue Neese. Paul was Vance Clayton's half-brother, son of William Grant's second marriage to Roxie Mae Umberger.
Doris

Searching for Parents of EMMITT EDWARD NEESE

Emmitt was born around 1872 most likely in Alabama. In 1910, he married a young widow named Ida Elizabeth (Rutherford) Nowling (1885 FL - 1921 FL), daughter of John W. Rutherford (1845 AL - 1918 FL) and Rutha Lucinda Enfinger (1852 FL - 1931 AL). To this union were born four children, only two of whom survived: Clarence Wilburn Neese (1912 FL - 1990 AL) and Angialou Neese (1920 FL - 2001 AL). Ida died in 1921 of kidney disease, and left her husband with two small children. Emmitt died of tuberculosis in 1925, whereupon the children went to live with their maternal grandmother, Rutha Lucinda (Enfinger) Rutherford until her death in 1931. Angialou was adopted by a family by the name of Majors. Clarence was out on his own, marrying in 1934. Emmitt's Florida death certificate lists the name of his father as George Neese, and the name of his mother is also listed, but is practically illegible. It could be Laura or Leona, and the last name could be Mulder or Miller. Census records list Emmitt's father's place of birth as South Carolina or Alabama, and his mother's as Alabama. If anyone has any information on Emmitt's family, his mother or his father, and any siblings, I would be most appreciative if they would contact me. I am happy to share the information I have on this family. Thanks.

All records I can find on this individual show his name as Felix M. Neese. He had an uncle named Martin Felix Blankenship. The given name of Martin has been passed down thru the generations and family lore indicates Felix's middle name may have been "Martin," after his uncle.

Upon the death of his mother, Felix's sister went to live with her maternal grandparents, James and Jerusha Blankenship. None of the grandchildren of James and Jerusha recall hearing the name of Felix, nor the name of Felix's mother. However, they do know of Felix's sister, Nannie, and the fact that she was raised by her grandparents. In fact, Nannie was named after my paternal grandmother. I think perhaps Felix was taken in by some of the Neese family. However, I can find no record to that effect.
I have not seen the given name of Stanly. Ah, another mystery to be sloved, eh?
Ron Pauley at wronpauley@aol.com

Re: Felix M. Neese, born in VA in 1890s

Looking for information on Sallie Neese married Eli Sharpe their marriage bond dated Nov 2 1824 in Orange Co. North Carolina. Also looking for information on Nellie Neese wife of Paul or Powell Anthony... their daughter Eliza born in 1826 in North Carolina... died in Nodaway County Missouri in 1915. She married Anderson Nunly (Nunley or Nunnelly) in Nodaway Co in 1870...they attended a family reunion at the home of Daniel Sharp and his wife Malinda nee Keck in 1898 in Nodaway...believe Daniel and Eliza were 1st cousins as I believe Daniel Sharp was the son of Daniel Sharp who married Eve Anthony in Orange Co N.C. in 1812... Eve Anthony and Powell or Paul Anthony were brother and sister. Believe Daniel Sharp Sr was the brother of Eli Sharpe. Powell Anthony was listed as an executor of the will of Felty Neese...were Sallie and Nellie daughters of Felty or Felton Neese? Are Felty and Felton nicknames for Valentine Neese? Information on the Neese family in Orange and Alamance Counties will be appreciated.

Later, she was a member of the Rutledge Christian Church, where she served in many capacities over the years, in recent years including church treasurer and pianist.

Following high school graduation, she enrolled in Kirksville State Teachers' College in 1941. Among them was Joe Neese, Jr. He and Jacquelyn were married June 2, 1946 and moved to their farm northwest of Rutledge, MO. She retired in 1983 but substituted in the elementary schools for 12 more years.

Following retirement, Jacquelyn made quilts, but her favorite occupation was caring for her three grandchildren when they came home from South Africa in 1984. She enjoyed and was gifted in cooking, sewing and having company for meals. All who have been recipients of those gifts will greatly miss her. Jacquelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Susan; and her brother, Edgar Clifford Padgett.

Survivors include her husband, Joe; her son, Robert and his wife, Paula, all of Rutledge, MO; three grandchildren, Jessica and husband, Jack Goodwin of Bloomfield, IA, Vanessa of Springfield, MO, and Michael of Rutledge, MO; and one great-grandchild, Brennon Goodwin; Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Evelyn and her husband, J.P. Childers of Memphis, MO, Barbara and her husband, Roger Briggs of Rushville, IL; one brother, David Richard Padgett and wife, Hazel of Ozark, MO; and a sister-in-law, LeGene Padgett of Memphis, MO. Jacquelyn thoroughly enjoyed her six nephews and three nieces, Jon Childers, Sam, David, and Hal Padgett, Bryon and Nathan Briggs, Nanette (Padgett) Young, Whitney (Padgett) Bucci, and Heather (Briggs) Farris. She also loved her 14 great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held April 15, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Memphis, MO, with the Rev. Charles Hammack and Jim Brown officiating. Pianist was Ann Luther and vocalist was LaMayra Brown. The Eulogy was given by Connie Courtney.
Have we been in contact before? I have seen what I believe is your tree on ancestry and there are some differences with my version. Also have you found Jesse Smith's (Jacob's father) family yet? And do you connect with Lizzie Waters of Villa Grove? Do yo live in that area? Please email me at Nanrz@insightbb.com so we can discuss this Smith line. I also see you are asking about the Bassett line in Camargo. There were 2 seperate Bassett families with no known connections living there. I connect to the "other" line.
Nancy
