My husband's grandmother, Augusta Wilhelmina Nehls, lived in Carwitz, Mecklinburg, Germany. We assume she married her husband, Johannes Carl Frederick Saefkow of Mechow, Mecklinburg, Germany before coming to Cleveland, Ohio. He arrived in October, 1883, she is with him in Cleveland for the birth of their son, John Frederick Safkow, July 12, 1886.
Landshauptarchiv in Schwerin, Germany could not find a record of her application to emigrate, but stated that Theodor Carl August Nehls, born in Carwitz who applied to emigrate in 1883, was her brother. I have no other evidence of this sister/brother connection.
Her mother was Augusta Rakow - listed on her death cert in Detroit, MI.
She was to have had 3 sisters, one probably named Martha.
I'd appreciate any info that anyone might have on this woman.
Thank you, Ann Safkow
